Update 06/16/14: Now The Hollywood Reporter and Variety are also saying that Jason Momoa is Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. That pretty much makes it official, folks!

Jason Momoa has been linked to Batman vs. Superman since late last year. Since then, Momoa has denied having any involvement in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel sequel. He even told MTV’s Josh Horowitz that he could punch him in the face if the rumors were true. Well… it looks like Josh Horowitz gets to punch Jason Momoa in the face!

Back in April Batman News exclusively reported that Momoa had signed a contract and joined the cast of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and now we know who he'll be playing! HitFix reports that Momoa has been cast as Aquaman, and that Zack Snyder has already finalized his designs for the character so shooting can take place soon.

Of course nothing is official until Warner Bros. makes an announcement, but HitFix has a great track record. How do you feel about Jason Momoa joining the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice cast as Aquaman? Let me know in the comments below.

  Not a replication but come on...Aquaman is blonde. HE has been FORVER. Might as well call him Namor if not. All the haters need to get a life.     If Zack Snyder does anything well its making a movie look visually pleasing -- I have no doubt that BvS will look amazing. His work as a cinematographer years before his directorial debut gave him a keen eye for aesthetic and I have little to no doubt he loves comics as most of his movies are framed the same way panels in comic books are framed.
    Story and character development are the areas Snyder struggles in. I'm hoping that BvS was a collaboration and that Ben A. helps out in the directing department on set the say Harrison Ford did with George Lucas in the Star Wars movies.

      Aquaman is the only Justice Leaguer who has strength that almost matches Supermans. Modern Aquaman is a dark and lonely King in exile, he is def a badass. But he needs to be blonde. A dark-haired Arthur Curry would be like a Superman in a red suit...

  I know very little about the overall history of Aquaman in the comics, but I do know that Borg is right. Look beyond the Silver Age, especially at the New 52, and Aquaman is one of the most powerful members of the JLA. Honestly, Drogo was a lot more "meh" than Aquaman, if Snyder's script is worth a damn.

        So Thor and aquaman blond demigods/ gods with a magic weapon which is a focus of their power. Royal family of their own realm that is a magical and technological marvel. Their life is a balance between their duties to their realm and their love of the earth/surface world. Nope not similar at all. Lol.         I honestly don't get this stupid idea that you have to like one company and hate the other (not saying you do). As a non biased fan and huge fan of both, I'd like to point out that Marvel has gave some great innovations to the comic universe. For example, Spiderman. Please name me a character from DC before Spiderman who was an awkward teen, that was bullied, who had high school problems, couldn't get a girlfriend etc. and then went on to have these amazing powers and become one of the worlds greatest Superheroes. Marvel has some amazing characters too and I love both companies equally and I'm getting the feeling that you have spite towards Marvel. What do you mean by compete? Financially? or Physically? I would love to debate with you on that since you don't seem to have much knowledge on Marvel

        In superhero category top two superhero character is from DC comics. Batman and Superman. reality. In superheroin category top character is Wonder Woman. reality. In supervillain category the Joker is in the top. reality. So in all three categories DC cbarater are in top positions. not now only. from when those character created. i mean from 70-75 years. Which marvel character is any three categories top position? no one.
        Justice League is first comic book superhero team. And also no.1 superhero team. No doubt.
        And if you judge DC-Marvel you need to look not only live-action films. You need to look comics,games,animation,tv fields too. If you look overall both. You will know DC is ahead than Marvel. Animation,tv,games totally dominated by DC. Marvel can't even stand in front of Marvel in these three fields. And also in live-action films DC did great work. Launched superhero genre in 1978 with Superman. Then ii also great work. Then Tim's two Batman films are great work. Help to shape the superhero genre. Then great,priceless Nolan's work. The Dark Knight trilogy. All three films are great. But the second is almost masterpiece. Also Zack's Watchmen is another important and great work in the genre. Last year his Man of steel also great work by action/effects angle in the genre. So if you look both publisher based live-action films you will see first 'quality'. I mean DC is ahead than Marvel in live-action films too. Not by quantity of films. But by quality of films.
        And most important is beside all DC legacy is Superman's creation in 30s. That is the most important incident. If that character not created then Marvel's universe doesnt even created. I mean If DC doesnt exist then Marvel also can't exist. Marvel comes later in the buisness. Like can you or any important persons from Marvel say that if justice league not created avengers will created? No. That is legacy. And only superhero character which consider any countries cultural icon is Superman. Not any marvel superhero achieve that reputation yet.

        I think the way DC is compiling their universe is erratic and proves that Warner brothers have little faith in their properties. In trying not to mimic Marvel's formula they are producing a franchise not in the best way. Solo films that eventually join for a team up actually better suits dc than Marvel. Unlike the most of the avengers the justice league members have always been portrayed to have an extensive career before forming the league. Also it should take a lot of adoo to convince any league member to join a team. They all would rather work alone. So a team up so soon makes the league feel weaker than they truly are. It works for avengers because they are mostly human with issues. Except Thor who likes humans would want to help, Iron man, Hulk, and company have personal issues and would depend on others. If I were DC I would treat the formation of the league as a trilogy. The first with batman v superman with wonder woman cameo leading into a wonder woman film, the second The trinity inclusive of wonder woman with green lantern and flash cameos in keeping with their friendship and the third justice league with the remaining members, aquaman and Martian manhunter. I would prefer cyborg be kept for a titans film and shazam for future magic oriented stories with fate, etrigan etc.

    Lol idk why all of a sudden the comic book community has started blowing Aquaman's power out of proportion. Looking at the comics he's been in, it of all of the more powerful leaguers (Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash and Manhunter) he's the least powerful. Not saying he's not cool because he is, in fact he's on my top 5 favorite superheroes list but honestly the guy could barely tank assault rifle rounds in his first issue. And the closest DC has to Thor imo is Wonder Woman with all those gods and what not

      Not entirely true. From the comics both new and old that I have read, he is portrayed with two power levels. Where he weilds the trident of Posiedon and where he does not. The one you are clearly talking about is the aquaman without the trident which is popular in his cartoon incarnations. With the trident he weilds a portion of the power of Neptune the sea, weather god. with similar abilities to Thor sans flight but inclusive of hydrokinetics. He's powerful but seems to prefer using his own might, which is weeker than wonder woman but not by much he's strong and skilled enough to take her out, but boy that'll be a fight.

      Aquaman's actually equal in power to Superman in fist fights. The reason Superman is more powerful than him outside of fist fights is because Supes can fly, shoot lasers, arctic breath, etc.
      But Aquaman and Wonder Woman are equal, though Aquaman ARGUABLY has a stronger super strength ability than Diana. Wonder Woman can fly though.
      And Aquaman automatically defeats everyone if they're in a large body of water, even Superman.

  Aquaman is not a "meh" part. He'll be playing a king of Atlantis and protector of the seven seas. Able to match superman in strength and batman in witt. If the same rumour comes from multiple sources for many many times all over the years, it simply cannot be a rumour, I knew this, that Jason was just lying as WB asked him to, by the way his looks seems perfect for the live adaptation version of the character, may be Snyder & co might tweak his history a bit but to all the non aqua man guys, know his powers well, he is pretty much a badass

Drew's story also says "I'm not sure if that's the actual name they'll use or not, but what we're hearing is that he is not pleased about the World Engine and what it did to the Indian Ocean."
This is yet another piece of news that is going right along with those NeoGAF plot rumors from January. That story is seeming more and more legit as time goes on.
From the NeoGAF post: "Aquaman is in it, but not called Aquaman. He’s there because the world engine in the ocean did something to the fish"

I'm upset that Captain Marvel aka Shazam will be used instead of martian manhunter. Imagine how awesome a solo Manhunter movie would be. Have it take place completely on Mars, show the tragedy he went through, and at the end maybe have him transported to earth.
It would be like an epic Greek tragedy. Or roman tragedy. Idk. Tragic is the point.

  Jeff Sneider from The Wrap tweeted part of an agency call sheet thingie that says Manhunter IS in JL.
  And it's starting to seem to me that the WSJ story was correct when it said Shazam was not going to be connected to the JL universe.
  Assuming the roadmap is real. With BvS supposedly leading directly into JL, then I'm starting to think that's why Shazam and Sandman are penciled in in-between those movies. Because those movies aren't connected so they can be put out in-between without disrupting the BvS cliffhanger into JL.

Come on guys, you all know that this is nowhere near official until either the trades or WB announces it. I mean, even with the trades, it's still not technically official until WB says otherwise. I don't even think that alleged "Warner Bros. DC Roadmap" has been made official either. Unless I completely missed something. With that said, though, I REALLY hope it's true. Momoa will be a badass KoA!
Now for the depressing part. We have 1 year. 10 months and 22 days or 692 days (unless it's rescheduled) until this movie is released. :(

Perfect! I know Jason's character in Game of Thrones was kind of one layered and deadpan, but he was so intimidating and Jason played him well. He has the look for the king of the seas.
