Matt Reeves Batman casting rumored to take place this week

Since the departure of Ben Affleck from the role of Batman, speculation has run rampant as to who would next don the cowl. With Matt Reeves' The Batman set to begin production in the fall, a decision is going to have to be made pretty soon.

Thanks to Daniel Richtman, who has a good track record when it comes to news such as this, the casting may be taking place very soon.

To be clear, this does not necessarily mean an announcement to the public will happen this week. This could just be a finalizing of the process internally within the studio and the announcement could come down the road. Our money is still riding pretty hard on San Diego Comic-Con being where the announcement takes place, but we'll just have to wait and see.

With the ongoing suggestions that Reeves wants to take Batman back a ways in his career, Warner Bros. is more than likely looking for someone it feels will be in this for the long haul. Perhaps not 'young,' per se, but someone that the studio and Reeves could get a few movies out of them.

Despite his numerous denials, Armie Hammer's name continues to come up. His denials are starting to feel a bit like Jason Momoa's in the time leading up to the announcement of him as Aquaman. We wouldn't count him out quite yet, but it's always possible Reeves go with someone none of us see coming.

The Batman is currently pegged for a June 25, 2021 release date.

  Spidey himself shouts "activate instant killmode" which is the least Spidey thing to ever say or do, but zero outrage. He kills dozens of living creatures until they pile up. Spidey doesn't even kill aliens.
  Meanwhile Batman and Supes habe an extensive history of killing in the comics (Supes even killed Zod more horrifically in the comics than in MoS... he even did it in Superman 2) and everyone loses their shit. It's so weird to me.

      I already understand Batfleck's character in BvS so I don't care about him killing in it due to understanding why his arc was like that.

      Issue is not the killing per se. Issue is when a hero should kill. Batman, in a room full of thugs with guns and on a time limit to save an innocent civilian, killing is reasonable. There you would have to act given the circumstances. But, Batman, driving on the streets of Gotham like it's his dad's and shooting vehicles with machine guns and destroying buildings when he could have tracked the vehicle and infiltrated the building like a ninja stealthily, is kinda lame. Plus he was a bad detective in BvS.

      Well, it's hard to say because there are many factors that need to be taken into account;
      1) Batman & Superman have already had iterations from the past that would be used as a benchmark, or form of standard to judge from. In regards to the MCU films, there's only been like Ang Lee's Hulk and the 2 movie iterations of Spidey.
      2) Because of that^ last line stated, establishing characters that have a careless code for killing can be easily passed. Iron Man, the Cap, Thor, Widow, Hawkeye, the GOTG never had a, 'no-kill' code so that idea isn't set in the minds of the majority of consumers.
      3) Another thing is the set TONE of the films.
      -Zack's MoS & BvS, along with this grey and darkness tone with dark, depressive music to accompany that, Zack had made killing human beings and aliens seem very dark and brutal. Their victims in agonising pain, being all emo and all that.
      -Whereas in the MCU movies, the tone is all fun and light-hearted with music to accompany that. The scenes where they show the heroes obviously killing people is somewhat passed off easily with no dark music, emo-vibes, or agonizing pain accompanied for the victims of which they kill. Unlike the main characters that do get murdered ie Loki, Thor's mum, Tony's parents they get that dark, moody treatment.
      -Zack's dark, emo, moodiness in regards to victim killing and their feelings is more congruent with the MCU Netflix's Daredevil, Punisher (brutal) and Jessica Jones (much darker, much moodier).
      Thus the set TONE of the films becomes consistent with other factors of the film, ie as already explained here; victim killing and their feelings.
      4) In regards to higher scrutiny; Well of course Batman will be judged more harshly if he kills due to that, "no kill" rule. Also bad/okay-ish films are judged consistent with that. The only DC characters that are held high to scrutiny would be only Batman and Supes, the rest are on the same competing field as the MCU characters.

      Thor and Clint have killed loads in comics so them killing in the films is fine because its true to who they are.

      Nah the Garfield films are a terrible version of Spidey's world, there's a video from Browntable (a massive Spidey fan) on YT what breaks down how much of a terrible job it does on Spidey's world and he nails it. Holland at the very least is a perfect Spidey and Parker even if Homecoming is rather bland.

For batman at least, I the onl;y time I know of where he blatantly killed many people was in the first 10 issues or whatever of Tec comics.   Thanos is CGI, so he can be decapitated. Steppenwolf was also CGI, but WB didn't allow Wonder Woman or Superman to kill him or, otherwise, reviewers would say they are murderers. Zack Snyder apparently wanted Darkseid to kill Steppenwold, but that was cut.

    There has been a paradigm shift in the way in which Batman fans view Batsy's kill code. The fact that there has been a paradigm shift of perspective showcases the fact that the majority prefer for Batman to have a, "no killing" code. As a result, the majority of us prefer Batman NOT to kill.

    I suggest you pull out your copy of TEC 572 and see Batman use a thug as a human shield. I submit that there's no moral distinction between that and violating his no kill rule.
    I'll also point out that the whole reason Knightfall happened was that fans were clamoring for Batman to be more like the Punisher and start killing people, so DC developed the whole story that led to AzBats who did just that. So the current so-called "paradigm shift" Legend mentioned sounds more to me like some people fetishizing an act of editorial interference from 1940.

And, let's remember, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Batman is a version not seen before on the big screen. He's older, wiser, more emotional, more broken, angrier, darker, more brutal and violent because of the loss of not only his parents when he was a kid, but Robin, and, Wayne Financial collapsed in Metropolis when Superman and zod were battling. Bruce Wayne / Batman lost associates, collegues, friends, clients, and even more family that worked for him in that building.
Anybody would be looking for payback and retaliation for everything he went through.

How will WB use Reeves's Batman in the shared universe though ? There can't be a shared DCEU without a Batman, so they have to come up with some sort of solution to fix it. If Reeves only does his own thing, sure it will make money, but it won't be a DCEU movie. What do you think ?

  Matt Reeves movie will be and is connected to the DCEU. The movie(s) will be a prequel, hopefully leading up to the events of what happened to Robin in BvS.
  Remember Batman said to Alfred in BvS, "20 years in gotham, we've seen what promises are worth... How many good guys are left... How many stayed that way?!"
  And Alfred later says, "20 years fighting criminals, amounts to nothing?" Batman says, "Criminals are like weeds, Alfred. Pull one up, and another grows in its place."
  So, Matt Reeves has a good timeline to work with... 20 years of Batman fighting crime. MANY stories to be and can told. HOWEVER, being connected to the DCEU BvS, I hope Reeves the story to the events of what happened to Robin, when we see his uniform / suit empty, in the batcave in BvS.

Nobody knows , but my guess is that it is a prequel reboot. I have no clue how it will be used later in the shared universe though.
WB/DC has not abandoned the shared universe as some people claim. But it is developing standalone franchises (Aquaman, WW, Shazam, possibly Reeves' Batman) that are nonetheless part of the same universe, not unlike what is done in the comics. Some of those solo characters like Harley Quinn are already part of ensemble movies like SS or BoP.
I think that, at some point, the solo franchises will crossover again, but that won't happen until WB/DC figues out how to solve its Superman/Batman problem, They can change Superman's personality even keeping Cavill, but they can't change the characteristics of their present Batman in the shared universe (middle-aged, 20 years under the cowl, etc.), so Reeves' rebooted Batman can only exist in a past timeline. There's no easy fix to Snyder's damage.

      Hamada’s policy is to give directors creative freedom and keep studio interference at a minimum. The only interference we can expect from him is to keep production budgets at reasonable levels. I don’t anticipate any big-budget movie under Hamada. Even Wonder Woman 84 and The Batman will probably have relatively modest budgets compared to their expected box office returns.

      WB doesn’t want to be overdependent on franchises and big blockbusters to make money, That is not their current business model. Besides, WB execs feel that, if they divert resources to make several event films in a market that is largely dominated now by Disney, they will lose out.
      Again that doesn’t mean they will never take a risk with expensive movies. For example, they are now producing the Dune reboot which is likely to be high budget and carries a significant risk of flopping financially. They just won’t take that risk very often.

    well, it sure looks neat imo. Thats what frustrates me ultimately. Such a cool looking design(imo) form a visual standpoint but it would never be taken seriously because its not "scary". Part of the reason we love comics is because of the visual pop. So obviously many of us would love for the films to replicate that. Problem is it doesn't make sense in a more realistic live action world. Ya I get that an all black suit would be "most" effective. But man if it isn't just a bit boring if you ask me. I want the characters to look interesting. If they do the all black thing then I want the yellow oval. But like you said, it potentially hinders the monster aspect. But it sure does look cool imo. Also, Reeves is a pretty big bat fan as far as I can tell. And philips once said "how do you tell an origin for a character that has no origin?". Im pretty sure everyone involved in these movies from a creative standpoint understands these characters. Gunn just posted about his love for the John Ostrander Suicide Squad comics the other day.
It wouldn't be the first time DC has gone through a rough patch in terms of their cinematic presence. Its practically a cycle at this point. Started good with Superman 1 and 2. Then got bad with 3 and 4 and supergirl. Got good again with Batman and Batman returns. Then it got bad again with Forever and B&R. Good again with Nolan. Bad again with the start of the DCEU(more of a mixed bag I would say I personally liked a lot of stuff in Man of Steel and you also had WW mixe din between some of the bad stuff). Now it seems they may be on a more positive trend once agin. Hopefully this one will last. But it seems every time the "bad" eras started, it had a lot to do with WB interfering too much and mishandling things.

I have been trying to get them to use EVERYTHING from BvS, same batsuit, cowl, voice modulator, batcave, batmobile, batwing, gadgets, Wayne Tech, same Alfred(Jeremy Irons), same Gordom(JK Simmons), both de-aged, of course, same Batman theme from BvS and same composers, Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL, for continuity purposes in and for the DCEU.

There's still talks that Ben Affleck is still present day Batman. Whether or not he appears in Matt Reeves movies, who knows. He will be and is a Producer for Reeves movie, so Affleck, Zack Snyder, and Christopher Nolan will have influence.

Agreed, but since they're about to release the Snyder Cut of Justice League, and, rumblings that Zack Snyder will be allowed to complete his entire 5 to 7 movie arc vision, anything is still possible, and we may even get Ben Affleck's Batman solo script directed eventually. Snyder's vision is more alive than ever. A very exciting time to be a Zack Snyder and DCEU fan. Since Kevin Tsujihara, ceo of Warner Bros. has been let go, DCEU future is brighter and looks better than ever. The #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement has been a world movement, and Warner Bros. is listening. I have had the privilege of being involved. I called WB Studios myself and asked about the Snyder Cut, and was told they cannot say anything until it's released in the trades, do to non-disclosure agreement(NDA).
My second and last question was about the Studio allowing Zack Snyder to complete his entire originally intended vision, and I was told, "fingers crossed," but again could not say anything because of NDA.
We have so much to look forward to.

What if they simply use a Ben Affleck body double, with a de-aged Affleck face? Affleck doesn't look old any way. It was harder to make him look older than it would be to make him look younger. This is a possibility still.

IF Ben Affleck is really and truly out of the Batman role, the closest in size, height, and build is Armie Hammer, who also played with Henry Cavill in The Man From Uncle. They had great chemistry.

IF not Hammer, then Robert Pattinson. IF not him, then Karl Urban who played as Dredd.

Whoever is chosen, needs to be at least 6 foot plus. Batman needs to be and is big, tall, brudish, hulking, intimidating just to look at, etc.

I'm nervous as well about the casting. I hope Matt Reeves and Warner Bros. is wise, and they listen to what the majority of fans are saying, either a de-aged Ben Affleck as Batman using a body double IF necessary, for continuity purposes, or Armie Hammer because he's the closest in size, height, and build to Affleck. Whoever is chosen, they need to make the person look like Affleck for continuity in and for the DCEU.

Short List: Ben Affleck returns, and they de-age him, which, he doesn't look his age anyway. With all of the recent positive changes to the DCEU and staff, and the Snyder Cut of Justice League is about to be announced and released, this is possible and doable. Makes the most sense, and most fans want Affleck to continue. WB and DCEU may just have to pay him more.

Recent news has been that Matt Reeves is having to continue to "pollish" the script, and now, production won't begin until early 2020. They continue pushing it back as well. Ben Affleck and Zack Snyder could very well be back, HOPEFULLY. They'd pay Affleck more money to star in his script.
