Talk continue to circulate around Matt Reeves' upcoming The Batman. The latest report confirms a few of the details we've been hearing as well as when the film will be set.
According to a new report from Discussing Film, The Batman is indeed going to show us an earlier version of the caped crusader and will be taking us back to the 1990s to do so. This will also lead to the need to cast younger versions of both Commissioner Gordon and Alfred Pennyworth. Sorry, J.K. Simmons, doesn't look as though you'll be called back to the GCPD for this one.
The report goes on to state that Reeves is said to have done another pass on the script to add a few more action beats, but that the focus is still primarily on Batman putting his detective skills to the test. This would certainly play into Reeves' recent tweetstorm about his love of the film Chinatown. The Penguin was also called out as being one of the main antagonists for the film, but the plan is still very much on featuring multiple members of the Rogues Gallery.
Filming is still expected to start in November, and no actor has been chosen as Batman yet. Apparently, the feeling right now is the studio wants to go with someone between the ages of 25 and 33.
As with anything to do with The Batman, we continue suggesting taking it with a grain of salt for the time being. It seems as though the script is still in development and that means that villains, plots, and just about everything else could change with another draft being submitted.
The Batman is currently pegged for a June 25, 2021 release date.
