Viola Davis may return for James Gunn's Suicide Squad sequel

Will Smith may not be returning as Deadshot in The Suicide Squad, but it seems that at least some of the old crew is may be willing to come back.

According to sources speaking with We Got This Covered, Viola Davis may return for the Squad sequel in the role of Amanda Waller. The sources didn't pinpoint if the Margot Robbie deal to return as Harley is done as of yet, but seeing as she is currently filming Birds of Prey, it's not difficult to imagine they would be able to get her.

It's still unclear who else James Gunn may use in this soft reboot, but there are certainly plenty of Suicide Squad characters he can pull from.

The Suicide Squad is due to hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.

Story wise its pretty mandatory she does return, can't have the Suicide Squad without Waller and Davis killed it as her.

  Nailed it! Gawd the Car-dealership-inflatable Enchantress comment...the best. Killer Croc was the worst. Hailed for his epic makeup, but none of that mattered when everything that came out of his mouth sounded like he was chewing on rocks while speaking.

    That issue could be applied across the whole movie. That is why I always lump Ayer with Snyder, and their motley band of screenwriters. They lack proper character development in most of their movies. You can only dazzle with CGI and slo-mo god referenced scenes for so long, before lack of substance sinks the picture.

  Taraji p Henson would make a better waller. Viola Davis is a terrific actress, but she didnt do anything special with waller.

    Viola Davis IS Amanda Waller. The reshoots weren’t as good as her original deliveries that were in the trailers, but under Gunn, Davis will surely be the best.

That's fantastic news, it seems everyone who came out looking the best will be back (still needs Jai though). Now they just have to build a new squad around (Margot and David) with never used characters and were good (If Gunn wants to fix the SS image he has to make sure Jared Leto's Joker is as far as possible from the film)

    Well to be fair that was most of the audience. Honestly, though, Leto’s a good actor, and he nailed the crazy and creepy vibe of the Joker. But the film and director was bad, and his part was tiny. Give his Joker a real role in a good film under good direction, and he’d be fantastic, no doubt in my mind.

Weird, I thought that was already set in stone even before Harley was confirmed. I remember reading that Amanda Waller would be the glue that holds the two films together.

Agreed, Jai Courtney was great! Unfortunately just completely underused in the final cut. Plenty of great potential, though!

Great news! Her performance was one of the few good things about that film imo. That scene where she just goes a shoots her entire crew without even blinking... man! wtf!?! That showed a lot about who this woman is! Was just great

It would be crazy to get rid of an Oscar winner.
I remember hearing that she was excited Gunn joined and that she'd like to kill off Will Smith. hmm, I wonder if she read the script and that was Dead Shot's fate.

      Actually in the comics, the Joker is rarely in SS arcs. It was the story writer's odd way of giving Harley an origin story, same with Batman for Deathstroke. It was poorly done and felt ill-contrived. The only good out of all that was seeing... Batman (especially with the added Batman scenes in the extended version.)

        Well I think it made perfect sense including him in the first movie - you have to have that to explain HQ to the audience - and I agree that the Batman scenes were some of the best in the movie (though that’s not saying much, admittedly, lol). In fact, Joker should’ve been the main villain. But yeah, that’s exactly why he shouldn’t be in every SS movie. He’s never been a major part of the comics, so I don’t know why everyone keeps acting like he’s a major player for the movies.

  That seems to be a personal exception since Gunn and Leto hate each other and SS's Joker was the subject of widespread derision. People seem to like Waller just fine.
