Harley Quinn will appear in 'The Suicide Squad' after all; production expected to start this year

Earlier this week, Forbes reported that Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) was not expected to appear in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. This afternoon, Forbes reported new information that Harley Quinn is expected to appear in the film after all.

Forbes has also learned that production on The Suicide Squad is expected to begin later this year.

The word "relaunch" has been favored over the word "sequel" in reports regarding The Suicide Squad. The return of Harley Quinn puts this film firmly in sequel territory even if its references to David Ayer's 2016 film are otherwise minimal.

As long as Margot Robbie is willing and able to be part of this franchise, it makes sense to bring her back. Her portrayal of Harley Quinn was easily the most popular aspect of Suicide Squad and the main reason the film succeeded financially despite being hammered by critics.

Great. Now announce Smith and Davis too and then let Gunn execute his vision. Best thing about SS were the character representations. Let’s hope Gunn continues that but also offers a better well grounded story with editing and dialogue that makes sense.

https://uploads.disquscdn.c... Checking James Gunn's Twitter account for confirmation and.... apparently he hasn't tweeted since Disney canned him. Damn!😂 He would've been a fun follow too. Oh well. Unlike in the comics where nothing REALLY has to make sense, Harley can't be both a solo character able to roam free, and a member of the Suicide Squad.😂 So we'll see.

The characters gained a lot of fame with the first movie, and most of them were quite well-represented, Amanda Waller being one for example, and the one who would make the most sense of being there even if it is with another Squad.
Also, I think Smith, Boomer and Croc were good enough to be there. You could argue Smith was just Smith, and you could be right, but I saw him pretty comfy with the role and it was a likeable, entertaining enough Deadshot for me, so yeah I wouldn't mind see him at it again.
And as I said before, looks aside, they could give Leto another attempt to try and shine, he is a great actor after all

Really don't see the point of bringing her back. I was actually excited at the possibility of a relaunch as the first one was absolute garbage. Anyway, if she is back and Will Smith is out, i'll take it.

  I liked the first one, but I was not opposed to a new cast at all. I liked Robbie, Smith, and Jai Courtney, but I think they need to start fresh. Robbie's version of Harley is about the only one I don't find completely insufferable, but that doesn't mean I love the character.

I'm loath to prematurely judge anything these days without seeing the final product. And not to infringe on James Gunn's creativity, but it makes a lot of commercial sense to include Margot Robbie's Harley in it. She's currently the only success story to come out of the first Suicide Squad movie, garnering a huge fan-base that would be eager to see her in any forthcoming film project.
Personally, I don't entirely understand how she became a role model wearing what she wears (hey, I'm in my 50's guy and not any sort of wild guy, so seeing children and teenagers wanting to dress like Harley trips me out LOL) but Margot rocked it as Harley, making it her own in a charming, need-to-see-her-again way.

  I bet Robbie wasn't in SS before Gunn but now that Gunn is running it, she's in. Harley is a wildly popular character like the Joker. Whoever plays her will shoot to fame.

  Not so sure about Ben Affleck as he did say he was out as batman on jimmy kimmel......then again that show was before Jason Mamoa posted up days later about how "we wont know whats coming" about the DCEU. Henry Cavill is more than happy to come back as superman tho and with any luck WB signs the new 4 film deal and higher pay as he deserves it.

      Not my problem, Affleck may be gone as he pretty much said it on a a chat just like every other actor who played a hero and villain, but Cavill has not said nothing about leaving.

My question is, with this supposed “relaunch” does Gunn plan to change the aesthetic of these characters, namely the tattoos? I only ask because based on what we’ve seen of Harley in BoP she clearly still has hers. As much as I dislike that “creative” decision by David Ayer, I also wanna keep the continuity if possible.

Good to see her return in the sequel to Suicide Squad, she was the core of that movie along with Will Smith (who hopefully will be there too!).

Out of the whole group, she's the only one that would be worth coming back because she's successfully locked in as an ongoing DC staple character compared to the others that can afford to be changed. Whether she's a part of it or not, it's all good either way.

      All I see of Joe is a 40-year old dude with smooth skin who died his hair white. Not to mention that he is a lousy actor. I mean no disrespect, but your standards are too low. You approach DCEU with mentality of "At least we're getting something." I'd rather get nothing than junk.

        no. I approach with the mentality of "don't judge it until I see it". I am also just open minded with these things. That being said, Nolan made plenty of weird creative decisions and that didn't seem to bother anyone...Anyways, I can't really say anything for his acting since I haven't really seen him anything, but that being said, I have seen little reason to believe his a bad actor. I haven't heard anyone say he is bad tbh. He seemed fine in that brief scene we saw him in. Sounded cool at least. Also, to be perfectly honest, he still looks enough like Slade to me. Its certainly possible for a person in their 40s to have completely gray hair. Joe is already getting there himself. Just need to make the dye more believable and give him a scar or something. Sheesh.
        Look im not saying it HAS to be Joe Manganiello. I just fucking want Deathstroke. I want him on the big screen SO freaking badly. And I want that damn suit too. When Affleck posted that video and it was announced that Deathstroke would be fighting Batfleck in his solo movie, I was literally fanboying almost that entire day. And to top it off, he had the Arkham Origins inspired suit, which is my absolute favorite Deathstroke design. Things were lining up perfectly. I mean PERFECTLY. And then it all fell apart. And now we might not get Deathstroke at all. Pisses me off bruh

  Chances are Joe will reprise his role as Slade Wilson as James Gunn stated The Suicide Squad will have NEW CHARACTERS and not A NEW CAST for the characters.
