Frances Conroy in talks to play The Joker's mom in 'Joker'

It's a big day for Joker casting news! Hours after we learned that Robert De Niro was in talks to join the cast, we have news about The Joker's mom. According to The Wrap, American Horror Story's Frances Conroy is in talks to play The Joker's mom "Penny" in Joker.

Oscar-winner Frances McDormand reportedly turned down the role of The Joker's mom recently. If Conroy takes the role it wouldn't be her first DC movie. She also appeared in the 2004 Catwoman movie with Halle Berry and voiced Martha Kent in the animated All-Star Superman.

Last week a rumor said that The Joker's real name is Arthur Fleck. In the movie, he returns home to the city to live with his older (and possibly dying) mother, Penny. She is described as being “very attractive in her youth“, “obsessed with her former employer” and unable to believe “this is what her life has come to.”

YES! Frances is amazing in American Horror Story, I’d love to see her in some big movies, she really deserves it!

I assume his mother is quite the character if they want Frances to play her. She’s very good at manic roles, able to flawlessly switch between timid and crazed in the same sentence.

The irony is that in the AHS universe, One of Frances characters was the mother of Dandy Mott, who had many Joker like characteristics. I guess its only fitting that she would play the mother of the real deal!! :) :) :)

what momentum? the aquaman trailer looked awful and was a CGI mess. Shazam? no one asked for that movie. No one even knows or cares about him. And, we still have no news on Reeves' Batman casting, story, etc. Comic Con was a big let down for DC film news.

  Umm, it wasnt a cgi mess. It looked wonderful. And as far as the original Captain Marvel is concerned, I want the movie. I've been a fan since my dad introduced me to him a long time ago. Captain Marvel (the original) was also the very first superhero in the movies. It is a great and fun story and quite honestly, it looks like a good movie. Reeves Batman info will come soon enough.

  I mean Aquaman wasn't perfect, but it sure as hell looked intriguing to me. Also, you remember anyone asking for the GoTG movie? Give Captain Marvel a chance.

    Shazam looked great. Even most people I know and people I’ve heard from online say they liked the Shazam one better than Aquaman. They said Aquaman looked amazing but the trailer didn’t really have time to breathe (thus why we are hearing they showed an extended version of the trailer at Comic-Con for Comic-Con attendees only). Shazam looks like a ton of fun and a good time at the movies.
    This will be the first DC Movie that will be for all ages and I think that will equal big box office.

  Lol yeah that’s a bit of a reach to say it was a let down. At least DC is learning to stay patient about releasing film titles and release dates for movies. Walter Hamada - the new man in charge of DC Films specifically talked about how they are not going to continue to do that since that has burned them in the past.
  He said this at least a month before comic-con. Just do your research and your expectations wouldn’t be so out there. They want their next 3/4 films (Aquaman, Shazam, Wonder Woman 84 and Joker) to do well and give them some momentum. They also don’t want to start announcing things when they aren’t fully set in stone. Which is EXACTLY how it should work.
