With Joaquin Phoenix officially signed on to play The Joker in an origin movie that starts shooting in just a couple of months, we're going to be hearing about other castings news soon. Tonight, we got a little taste of what to expect.

According to The Wrap reporter Umberto Gonzalez, this year's Oscar winner for Best Actress, Frances McDormand, recently turned down the chance to play The Joker's mom in the movie. According to Gonzalez, Warner Bros. wants a "name" actor for the role, which means they'll likely be pursuing other Oscar winners and/or popular actors.

Batman's dad, Thomas Wayne, will reportedly have a big role in The Joker as well.

The Joker begins shooting in New York City in September, so we'll be hearing more casting news soon. Who would you like to see play The Joker's mom? Let me know in the comments below.

    I like Frances McDormand, she is great in the 'Burn After Reading Movie' and I heard she won an Oscar award. Hearing that she turned down that role in the Joker makes me wish she would have accepted that role because im a fan of DC Comics and I think they need good actors such as her for their films. I hope the filmakers of the Joker film can find an actress as good as McDormand to play that role in the movie.

      Yes, when two adults love each other, they do certain things, and then the woman gets pregnant. After 9 months, she gives birth to her child. Im pretty sure everyone have parents, even the Joker.

        it makes no sense to make a standalone Joker movie, even less to be an origin story, and even less to show his mom

          We may be in for a great surprise, im optimistic about this movie. I dont see whats so wrong about him having a mother, to dig in his character and tell us his story, they'll probably start with his childhood.

    Literally the only thing that hypes me so far about this is Joaquin Phoenix. He's a fucking great actor. But everything else... i don't know. I wanna hope for the best, so I wanna think that Todd Phillips pitched a great take on this story in particular and not something nonsensical and completely against any set cannon.

    I don’t trust this dude ever since he said that BvS might be equivalent or better than the The dark knight before it released. I’m pretty sure WB would find a High Caliber actor maybe get the Toni Collette from Hereditary

          Eh, a majority of the people who commented on post were reasonable. Some agreed, while others disagreed by either mentioning TLJ’s box office and critical reception or saying that people who hate the film were just part of the loud minority.

          That last part is the exact opposite of what folks here would said about BvS lol.

        Wow, TLJ is the BvS of the Star Wars franchise. I enjoy both movies but admit to both missing the mark in many ways.

    Wow, very interesting idea and would add such complexity to the feud between Joker and Bats. And they both had a father killed by a criminal low life. Their eventual response to it is the exact opposite. One fights crime the other commits it.

    I love that idea!!! It really plays on their being exact opposites and how they are both alike too.

    That actually never crossed my mind that when the Joker does some horrific his mom is sitting in some living room somewhere watching it on the news. Knowing full well who Joker really is. This movie will be fascinating
