on Deadshot movie starring Will Smith and 'Suicide Squad 2' are in development

Earlier today we learned that David Ayer would be directing Margot Robbie's female DC villain movie Gotham City Sirens, but there was some other interesting info in that report.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Warner Bros. is still developing a Suicide Squad sequel, and they are also looking into a Deadshot spin-off movie for Will Smith. However, of all the projects mentioned, Gotham City Sirens is the most furthest along, and the one that fans can expect to hit theaters first.

With all of the money Suicide Squad made, a sequel is a no-brainer. But what about the news that Warner Bros. is considering a Deadshot movie starring Will Smith? Is that something you'd like to see? Let me know in the comments below.

      He is indeed the Squad "field leader", Flag didn´t even last all that long in the 80s series before sacrificing himself, but Floyd has one of the deepest backstories of all the DC villains.
      You could easily make 2 film out of his limited series alone but it would be hard with a PG-13.

      WB commissioning a Deadshot film is also a huge win for this whole diversity thing, in all sorts of ways, and the star is certainly bankable. The DCEU will lastly need more than the Trinity to reach the widest audience possible. Sign me up.

      It could further interest people to see more of the Suicide Squad because of him having his own solo film like Harley Quinn. It might interest another SS character to get his/her own solo film (like maybe Katana).

          Theyve made a Green lantern movie and it sucked ass. Shazam is scheduled to be released in the next few years so calm the fuck down. And Deadshot is a fucking great Character, before the SS fame. Like shit, the CW superhero shows production is absolutely awful but i thought he was badass in Green Arrow.

    here we go again seriously dc its time to stop. We had a good WW trailer and then some good news that Patric wilson is playing Ocean master, i thought hey maybe DC is turnig it around. Nope WRONG because then a gotham sirens movie directed by David Ayer the same guy who did Suicide Squad which is a terrible fucking movie bring him back great idea DC/WB and now this? NOBODY wants a fucking solo Deadshoot movie he is a minor villain fit for maybe an opening of a Batman movie or a cameo. And who wants a SS sequel? How about focusing on making one ONE good movie with your heroes first.

      You can rant how much you want but money talks and its definitely louder than what you're doing right now. The script for Suicide Squad wasn't well developed, Ayer is still a good director though. I really doubt that Deadshot spin off will make it far.

            Deadshot character might have interesting things, Will Smith playing it doesn't. It's just another Will Smith TM movie, where he plays almost the same way he plays all of his roles. Michael Rowe did a way better job on playing Deadshot in the Arrow tv show that Will did in Suicide Squad. Don't be such a blind fanboy

            Arrow´s take on Floyd was fine but it had noting to do with the comic character. Like at all. What Ayer did though is basically identical to the 70s reboot, to the Arkham-games and most importantly the Secret Six version. John Ostrander and Gail Simone even acknowledged the last bit and his storyline with the daughter is from Deadshot Vol.2.

            I know of a few professional comic write who like him a lot too and B characters have WAY more narrative potential than a "corporate mascot". The same goes for B-level teams. The JLI and the Squad always interested me more than the JLA too.

            John Ostrander, the creator oft the Squad, for example. He talks about his interest in B level characters on the extras for Squad too. All sorts of pro-writers further openly hate A-list superheroes. Garth Ennis sure loves loves his on exception Superman but he turned Batman into a racist when he used him in 2015.

            Deadshot has plenty of depth, he's had 3 great solo series and has been part of 2 great team books in Suicide Squad and Secret Six under Ostrander and Simone. He's had it better in the comics than most so called A-listers and fan favorites. I'm not in favor of the movie myself but your assertion of Deadshot being a worthless character is completely untrue and reeks of ignorance. You're really butthurt over some other character not getting a movie.

            I already said that I'm not in the favor of the movie. But Deadshot has 3 great minis and was the lead of 2 of the greatest ensemble cast runs in comics featuring villains and anti-heros. Certainly there's more material for Deadshot then there is for Shazam or Cyborg and frankly even Aquaman. If we're going to judge these characters based on their comics history and the number of acclaimed runs then Lawton has them beaten solid. The only thing half of DC has going for it is Geoff Johns recent revisionist runs, at the least Deadshot has been stable since the 70's.

Because stupid spur of the moment decisions like this PROVE that WB/DC have NO FUCKIN PLAN for their DC Universe, it's just a bunch of executives looking to see what's currently popular and just saying "oh make a movie for that! As long as it sells tickets!" There's zero planning. The DCEU is about to become a huge mess with a bunch of random movies and no real point. These movies take time and planning for it to all work cohesively, a Deadshot movie will only prevent development on the other DC movies. I do not need a stupid pointless Deadshot or Halrey Quin movie, these are just money hungry dumb decisions, not creative story driven decisions.

This is not exclusive to the DCEU. You're acting like if these films have dates attached to them and that WB scrapped their plans for the other slated films.           Actually there's only 3 studios now making a cinematic universe, with Universal's monsters universe being a 4th after The Mummy comes out. And right now it is exclusive to DC as they are the ONLY ones doing anything like this. It made sense for Fox to make Wolverine movies because he is their single most popular character, similar to DC with Batman, but even with how big of a mess Fox's X-Men universe is you still don't see Fox making an Ice Man spin off movie, Marvel isn't making a Groot movie etc. I'm just saying you can tell DC doesn't have a plan, that's not an accusation, that's a fact using this info. Otherwise DC would have announced a Deadshot movie back when they announced all the JL movies. DC is being completely reactionary and it's frustrating as a fan, I want to see them make a plan for all their DCEU movies and then stick to it, not this random Deadshot solo crap. And if you consider yourself a fan then you should want quality movies with an overall plan as well, and not just accept whatever crap they give you.

You already contradicted your entire argument with the excuses made for Fox's X-Men universe as if they are not applicable to the DCEU. Wolverine was the stand out in the X-Men films but Harley and Deadshot weren't stand outs in Suicide Squad? I'm not saying a Deadshot film is necessary but it can work especially with Will Smith.

Did Marvel announce an Iron Man 2 before Iron Man proved to be a success? No. ALL STUDIOS are reactionary. I didn't see an Ant-Man and The Wasp movie until after Ant-Man was a hit, I didn't see a GotG Vol 2. until after the first made money, and Marvel sure pushed back some movies for Spider-Man to fit in. Again, its not exclusive to the DCEU.
            I'm not arguing as a fan, I'm just pointing out that its typical business and its not solely unique to one studio. We're not even sure if this movie may even be produced but here you are ranting.

            Marvel created a plan and has pretty much stuck to it, any minor changes they've made have been necessary from a creative standpoint, and they've all made sense. A Deadshot movie is not necessary at all, not even in the slightest. There's no way you can tell me that a Deadshot movie decision was story driven. It's 100% a money decision. Marvel knew they were going to make an Ant-Man sequel and a GotG sequel, only if those movies bombed would they not have, but because they were successful Marvel didn't have to change any plans and now they can move forward with their sequels. DC does not have a plan PERIOD. And that's all I'm asking for from them, a well thought out creative plan with quality stories that all have a point, and then AFTER you have a story driven plan figure out how to make them financially successful. You would have to be completely naive if you think that WB actually has a story that they feel is necessary to tell to warrant a Deadshot movie, it's as simple as "hey we have Will Smith, he's a big star, people liked him in SS, make a movie with him, just come up with anything so we can sell tickets" and that's why I'm "ranting" I'm tired of WB giving it's fans crap, even if this movie isn't made it still shows the thinking that's going on at the top and that's the saddest part. I want quality and you should too.

            Yup, pushing back films ready to begin production to make way for Spider-man is such a necessary decision from a creative standpoint and also the jarringly obvious way they squeezed him into the civil war movie was 100% for the sake of story. Of course.

            You have no problem with how Tom talks and acts the same as both Peter and Spidey? The psychological safeguard of the mask doesn't exist this way.
            To me it looked like all the action sequences in the homecoming trailer had already been done in the 5 previous Spidey movies. So it didn't excite me.

            His Spidey is spot on, we will see about his Peter. The amount of Iron-man could mess with that aspect too but we could all use a truly good Spider-man adaptation, due to the breakdown of the last series and the questionable Ultimate toon.
            PS: Th best adaptation is Spectacular Spider-man.

            I'm a fan of comic book movies in general, I don't care what company is making them. I enjoy Marvel and DC films because it makes absolutely no sense to choose just one. I criticize Marvel if Marvel makes a stupid decision and I criticize DC when DC makes a stupid decision. Because that's what a logical fan should do. If you just eat whatever crap DC feeds you then that makes you a DC fanboy which makes your opinion invalid, because you're not thinking logically, you're only thinking "DC is right no matter what" which is pathetic. I simply use common sense.

            And obviously Marvel wanted Spider-Man from a creative standpoint, Feige has always wanted to use him in their universe and he squeezed him into Civil War (which I agree with you had hardly anything to do with the story) simply to use the character first. Because as long as Marvel does the character first then they get to set the tone and character for all future stories going forward, not Sony. Which is a creative decision, not a money decision. Disney isn't even going to make money from Sony's Spider-Man movies, so that proves it doesn't have to do with money, it was a story driven decision.

            When you say Spider-Man was squeezed into civil war just so marvel gets to have creative control over the character, you're making a misinformed statement.
            Marvel has creative control no matter what, that was part of the deal with Sony. Homecoming is as much a marvel movie as Winter soldier.
            The initial report was that Sony reeks profits from the solo outings but the trailer came with a marvel studios stamp so clearly marvel co-produced.
            All the while marvel gets to use the marvel comics' poster boy in their team up movies for that extra pull with the audience that grew up with Spidey, and Sony doesn't get a bite here. Yep, 100% creative decision, my ass. Sony was desperate and marvel damn sure used that to their advantage during the deal.
            You make it sound like marvel is doing some creative service to the character with the solo films and actually seem gullible enough to believe it.

            More mass bullshit. These sequels for the most part aren't planned. You yourself condemned WB for being "reactionary" but when Marvel does it it was planned to have a sequel...what? News flash all studios make films in hopes that its successful enough to warrant a sequel. Didn't Cap 3 turn into Civil War? And now Infinity is being pushed back? So much for sticking to their plans huh? And I guess quality is subjective but I don't like about half of the MCU's films and majority of the time they are inconsistent.

            WB better have a plan because this is a connected universe after all and so far everything is very much connected so that would lead me to believe they have a story. I cannot evaluate how necessary Deadshot's movie is or rather how they can make the film relevant to the rest of the universe but neither can you. So instead of going on that things didn't go how you wanted and speculating a worse case scenario you can have a seat and wait.

            Speaking of mass bullshit you've said multiple things that are flat out not true. First, Feige said he was wanting to make Cap 3 Civil War since 2006, back when they were first planning out the MCU and right after the comic book came out, so nothing changed there, it all depended on if Disney could resign RDJ for it. Second, Infinity has not been pushed back at all, both parts were originally announced for May 2018 and May 2019 and those are still the current release dates. And Lastly, you said "majority of the time they are inconsistent" that is also completely false, you can't give me one example of inconsistency (other than cast changes to different actors) because the continuity has been perfect between all of their films. Unless you're not referring to continuity, and just referring to quality consistency, and if that's the case then yeah that's like you said, subjective.

            But like I said, I want DC to have a plan, I want them to create a great universe with these films. But you can't honestly see news like this and think that they've had a solid plan, because common sense is making it completely obvious that they're only thinking of doing a Deadshot movie solely because it's Will Smith and they feel they can sell tickets, that's it. I know I don't know for sure, I'm not in the room with these executives, but the fact that it's so obvious with everything that we do know, would make it naive to think anything different.

            That's nice that Feige wanted to make Civil War but I'm pretty sure he didn't say the second Cap sequel should be Civil War or else Feige is really bad at planning story arcs because Civil War is as disjointed from the story as they come. The Russo brothers even said Civil War only happened because of BvS. I wasn't referring to the release date of Avengers being pushed back but rather the story. There are no 2 parts to Inifinity War anymore. Russo brothers again, said the movies were completely different and that they will be changing their titles. I must state however that I'm not sure in which these Avengers movies will be released, so Infinity War may actually be the first one although I doubt it but its a disclaimer.
            I was referring to quality consistency, but I can go on about continuity as well such as Hawkeye retiring but joins team Cap, Ant-Man trying to make his life better for his daughter but throws that all away and randomly joins team Cap (Even Peyton Reed wants to keep Ant-Man separate from how he was in Civil War but I'm sure its all in the plan right?), anyway I'm getting sidetracked.

            I'm sorry did anyone deny that WB wants to make money by adding a Deadshot spinoff? No! I'm just criticizing your reaction.

          This news proves that DC does not have a solid plan with their films, that's undebatable, you simply cannot deny that. They're still trying to figure it out and that's frustrating to the fans.

            This news just proof they have an initial plan aka the initial schedule and said schedule keeps evolving as movies release and are well receive just as any other studio does in the history of cinema. Sometimes it works backwards and they announce something and then cancel it just like Inhumans movie.

    I fully expect about 5 or so minutes of Letoker in Sirens. It makes no sense to have him in Squad 2 and Ayer´s take deserves a followup from the "creator" himself. It would be fun to see his relationship with Harley go toxic and kick start the narrative. Leto will have to do something till 2019´s (?) Batfleck Begins.
    PS: Please make the Deadshot film an R. All his 3, universally great, limited series were quite fucked up.

      Thanks for the optimism, but while a Deadshot movie might be a cool way to get a more in-depth look at the character with the mask and everything, I prefer to see him in an ensemble. Will Smith's take was great, so don't get me wrong about seeing more of him. :)

      Sadly, there is more than enough Batman in essentially every media in comparison to other DC heroes. I want anyone else to get the spotlight. That's why I'm excited for Wonder Woman. A Deadshot short or an appearance in Harley's movie would be cool, though.

      I love the Marvel movies. Just wanna get that out there.

      But, to me, they're very formulaic. It works and they're doing a great job with it, don't get me wrong. I just think WB/DC are taking more risks with their characters. Obviously that doesn't guarantee creative success, but I am enjoying the craziness of DC's universe.

      I do agree that a basic overall plan should be ironed out though. Hell, maybe they have one, but are finding ways to add more and more characters to their world.

        Oh I never gave my opinion on Marvel movies. To me most of em are pointless popcorn flicks. My point still stands, when you wanna fucking build a Universe let people who know the characters come up with the plan and stop butt fucking characters just to be edgy. While Disney owns Marvel they are a separate entity Marvel Studios. WB needs to fuck off and allow for the creation of a DC film branch.

    Im not the biggest DCEU fan, liked the first 2, skipped SS, but I don't see how any of this is a bad thing. More CBM's? Of good characters? Someone, a lot of someones, will like em. I do not mind if someone has a negative opinion, but there's no point in not wanting the films to happen. At the very least, it gives you 2 more opportunities to have negative opinions!             Of course not. But you need more films to focus on UNIVERSE BUILDING. The only neccesary Batman films to begin with are solo films and Nightwing or Robin/Red Hood movies. The villains and side characters could be great supporting characters.

    I'd rather see Deadshot in The Batman. I'm picturing him and Deathstroke working for opposing sides (Black Mask and Penguin, for instance) and Batman trying to keep the whole city from exploding between them.

    There's already a film dedicated to Will Smith aka Deadshot, it's mistakenly called Suicide Squad. It should have been named Will Smith's take on Deadshot ruling Suicide Squad.
    Now they say they want to make another movie just for him ?? Stop it guys, as much as I love the idea of a spin-off for Harley Quinn which could open to other parts of her character, there's no interest in doing a solo movie for Deadshot. Oh, and please, no Will Smith in Suicide Squad 2, they could add two or 3 more actors / actresses with the amount of money he's being paid. It's such a waste of money.

If its a Deadshot backstory or continuation of his exploits as a hitman battling for custody of his daughter then Will Smith and WB can go fuck themselves have fun watching that. But a new mission outside of Squad led by Deadshot,Bane, Scandal Savage etc against Secret Society of Villans or Mockingbird would be cool.

Lol And I guarantee no will watch a Deadshot backstory film or his struggles as a single dad hitman. SS sucked ass it was the most hyped movie this summer so ppl supported it. It was entertaining but in a way a train wreck is entertaining. Wait till the digital/dvdnumbers come out. No one is buying it. Same way no one went back to see it after the third week. Anyway Secret Six was rumored before a while ago so im attaching that to this Deadshot spinoff nonsense no one besides you and the Smith family would watch that.

            Squad is further already proven to be a home video hit, try again. The film also got up to 3 followups in 1 year alone and what do the Sirens have to do with the Squad? Secret Six though was a direct spin-off of the Suicide Squad.

      I like the ultra nihilistic late 80s version more, but it is basically unmarketable, and it would need a lot of build up too. I ain´t gonna lie. A Deadshot centric film is now a top 5 DCEU Most Wanted for me.

    Not necessarily, but Will Smith playing him is such a deception. And I'm not saying it because he's black or else, just because the film was writed for him, around him, like all other films he plays in. With the money they put to hire him, they could hire two more characters which would bring a lot more than what he can offer.
    This could be a real true Suicide Squad movie, with interesting villains, not just another typical action movie with one big hero and followers.

    I can see the Harley solo movie, but I too don't know how I feel about a solo Deadshot movie. I mean he was great in SS, but a complete solo Deadshot movie....not sold on it. I can name sooo many other characters the DCEU should be making solo movies for and Deadshot may not even be in my top 10.

    I can see a Deathstroke solo movie, but Deadshot? Do they even have enough material to make a standalone movie about him? As far as I remember whenever Deadshot shows up in the comics it's either a team-up book or as a villain/ mercenary.

      Of course they don't. That's why things like this are so frustrating to read about. I'm all for Studios to make money because it's a business and money needs to be made in order for us to keep getting more movies. But I want the decisions to be creative story driven decisions 1st and then find a way to make them financially successful 2nd. Decisions like this are 100% money driven with zero thought on quality or story and that's the saddest part.
