Yesterday thousands of extras filled up Heinz Field for a scene in The Dark Knight Rises. Bane showed up, and while it's hard to hear him, we get our first listen at what he might sound like. Check out the video of Bane's scene and photos from the shoot, courtesy of some really brave fans. No huge plot points are revealed, but if you're avoiding spoilers, don't watch the video!

What is up with the voice? It doesnt sound like I would think Bane would sound like. You would imaging bane to have a deep, bellowing voice. This guy sounds like he's going to off some football players then have some tea and crumpets with the queen! Reminiscent of a kookie guy from A clockwork orange.
I really hope Nolan has something good up his sleeve for Bane... or like some of the rumors state...have a much more menacing secondary villain.
As with most things Nolan and Batman, we need to sit back and wait for the final product.

This voice seriously came out of the blue....I don't think anybody was expecting his voice to be like that. But I kinda liked it. It's an oddly creepy and foreboding voice. When he spoke, his voice came with a kind of doomsday feel to it. But in the final product, the voice will sound better so there ya go.

If his voice really is going to sound like that, which I'm ok with because it's different, then that must be Bane in the teaser; you know, the guy that looks frail climbing out of the well. Remember?!

He did say "destruction". In the next take he started to "de...."( like he had forgotten that he was supposed to change "destruction" to another word) and then said "liberation". from that point on he daid "liberation" . That's how it sounded to me.

the instrument of liberation must be that weird looking bomb thing, and if that is the mad scientist on his knees then he must have made it, and banes just stole it from him. and then made an example of him, showing the power he had, showing that he takes what he wants.

Just want to say, I'm glad I'm not the only one who decided to be naughty and take vids/pics. It's going to be an awesome scene when it's all put together in post.
To weigh in on the conversation, here's what I caught from my experience:
1. Every take that they piped in his voice over the loudspeakers, I heard "this is the instrument of your liberation."2. I have no idea what all exactly happened during our scene as far as real plot is concerned, and I was there the whole day. We were deliberately kept in the dark about everything except the most basic information that we needed in order to be able to do our parts and act like a real crowd in a real danger situation.
3. As to the hostage, I was a level down from the guy who recorded this particular video, so I didn't see very clearly - a lot of us thought it was Gordon because the guy was tall enough to be Gary Oldman and had a similar haircut, but I borrowed a guy's binoculars next to me and took a closer look. It wasn't, I repeat, WASN'T Gordon, nor was it the Joker (Y'all posting in a troll thread, there, folks). I actually concur with the post that said the hostage was Alon Aboutboul. No idea who the person is supposed to be in the film, but I know that in the last take they did of this, I'm pretty sure the hostage/guy on his knees was executed in some fashion. As far as we were able to hear in the audience (whether they cut audio so we couldn't hear or whatever), the hostage never identified himself to the world, so we won't know until somebody can find better footage with higher quality or until we see the finished product.
4. The tumblers were only there to get the crowd excited, from what I can see - they didn't get used in any of the filming the day we were all there. All they did was drive around the field and give Hines Ward a ride. One cool thing about the tumblers, though, is that there IS one that has a large tank-type cannon on top of it, which they used to demonstrate one of the explosives that they littered the field with. We WERE told that Bane stole the camo tumblers, so I'm not sure whether Batman will have a tumbler in this movie or not.My take on the whole thing is that this scene is just adding to the notion that Bane is trying to break the Bat through a war of attrition and exhaustion. If people are concerned about spoilers, they probably shouldn't come to a site that's specifically dedicated to giving as much information as possible about the movie. It's not like we've given away that Bane is Batman's twin brother's college roommate twice removed on his uncle's side or something... if you don't want to know, then don't visit the site.4 likes
Alon Aboutboul is supposed to play as the mad scientist. Hm... I wonder how these lines fit into context with him then?

I think it's the mad scientist, definitely not joker. And I dont think Bane is trying to convince people he's there to create order as such, in the scene he blows up the football pitch and kills all the players and the refs, not very civilised. I still dont think JGL will be a villain, I think he'll just be an important cop like Gordon has been.

JG Leviit character announced s John Blake is also called "Birdeye" "birdey" or something like that, i know this from a friend inside, i don't know if that is important but you know... is a curious detail

The hostage is Alon Aboutboul as Mad Scientist (Hugo Strange perhaps) see it by yourself in the video posted below by "BANE MATELO"

The hostage could be Commissioner Gordon. That's probably why he's in the hospital in the trailer.

This is spoiling.... ¿how can anyone tell the hostage is Batman? don't come with the "nothing new story", we don't know if bane is talking to the batman

Next poll of the podcast should be: "Who do you think is the hostage?" a) Batman/Bruce , b) Jim Gordon, c) Harvey Dent , d) Mayor Antonhy Garzia, e) The Joker xDDDDDD

I like how intelligent he sounds. He sounds old and withered but intelligent sounding and really creepy. His voice could also change once he takes the venom, you never know.

The voice really grows on you. And I read on the site FB page that that was a rough first take. People need to go down to the pharmacy, buy a pack of chill pills, go home, pour a glass of water, take the chill pills, sit down on the couch, light up a joint and....chiiiiiiill.

I hope they fix that voice it's like he just sounds like some angry dorky brit ..... wtf? he doesn't sound like a villain hahahhaha.

Interestingly enough though Bane says "This, this is the instrument of your demolition"... Who would fit that description?

Interestingly enough though, he says" instrument of your liberation," you stupid asshole. How dare you?

Once again Batman News delivers!!
To all the people complaining about spoilers, how is any of this a spoiler?? I've followed everything about this movie from beginning to now and I don't have a clue what's going on in this scene. So Bane is talking at football game, we have no idea what's happening or what's going on. Honest to god the most spoilerish information (in terms of plot) that's come out so far has been the trailer.
As for Hardy's voice, it sounds awesome but rest assured they will re-do in post production.

I was there, and I know you won't believe me, but i really really really REALLY think the hostage (wich can barely stay on feet, he looked like wounded) is THE JOKER!
by the way, he said: Instrument of your DEMOLITION, not liberation
2 likes
Why on earth would it be The Joker? The last thing Bane says is "Why don't you identify yourself to world?" If anything, it's Batman. Or it's someone they THINK is the Batman.
Um, because no one knew the Joker's identity. And if the crowd was cheering, one would think Bane would be "making an example" of someone Gotham truly despised. Depending on the timeframe from TDK, it could PLAUSABY be The Joker. Can anyone else attest to the fact the person Bane had "hostage" looked like The Joker?

I was there and I can say that the hostage was not an actor known from the past movies, on the other hand .. is impossible to say if it looked like the joker because we were so farrr away

Well, it has some "wild" sense to me....
1) Joseph Gordon Levitt looks like Heath Ledger. Enough to have me confused when I didn't see Ledger's name in the credits for Brick.2) Although Scarecrow's story is told in Batman Begins, Nolan still brought the character back for a small cameo in The Dark Knight.
3) In the Knightfall comic storyline, featuring Bane as the main antagonist, the Joker has a short but vital cameo role.
4) According to Empire mag a studio release for DK Rises states that JGL is playing a Gotham beat cop called John Blake.J Gordon Levitt's character in Dark Knight Rises is purportedly called John Blake. JOhn blaKE. JOKE. He's gonna play the Joker. Am I wrong?

mmmm..... what about this?
bane takes the joker out of arkham and kill him infront the crowd to make an statement: I'm not the chaos, i'm the new order, this guy here, he's the chaos blowing up hospitals and all that kind of shit.... I will guide you to the glory, and to make it happen we all need to kill the batman. but of course the truth is that Bane is with the leagues of shadows, and wants to destroy gotham.how this can happen? who's playing the joker? i've no fuck idea, but i guess that is part of the "trick under the sleeve" of Nolan
just some wild thoughts :p

You morons, that's Tom Hardy's regular accent, he's screaming, trying to make his words trying to make his words understandable, using a mask, that voice is just to shoot the scene, there will be a re-dub of all Bane's scenes due to the mask problem
1 like
thats not his usual voice, if you watch his interviews for different movies, his accent changes very easily.

how this could be an spoiler?? everyone who come and read news at this site knows that (more than likely) Bane is going to break the Bat, or at least Gordon, now don't be surprised of watching it

First take he said "Behold the instrument of your destruction". They wheeled out some giant sphere that reminded me of a classic supervillain doomsday device. Possibly something stolen from Wayne Enterprises like the tumblers and the vaporizers League of Shadows used to emit the fear gas in Batman Begins.
And the hostage wasn't a familiar actor from the franchise.
He always said "behold the instrument of your liberation" every take, unless you're talking about the first rehearsal take where they didn't pipe the sound through the stadium speakers
0 likes
I'm pretty sure the first take he said "destruction". Because the line went from "Behold the ..." to "This is the instrument of your liberation" which is in the video.

Three things. First, this is BATMAN-NEWS.COM, NOT friggin' BOF. Spoilers are posted here. That's been established since Day 1. Second, I always love how people complain about spoilers that no one made them watch. "I pushed the play button, but it's YOUR FAULT for posting it in the first place!" Wrong. Finally, it's mostly been covered, but the voice here can't be finished product. Even at that, what we're hearing is from a cell phone camera. Ever tried to record something at a concert with that or a point-and-shoot? Sound kind of gets jacked. Even if that's the case, I'd wager there's going to be some post-production work on that.

He Sounds Like a Very Old English Gentleman ... Maybe the Venom is What's Keeping Him Alive and in Great Shape! ...just a thought =)

To those concerned with Hardy's vocal portrayal of Bane: This will not be the final product. Frankly, I find it odd they even piped Bane's voice through the stadium sound system in the first place, with all the echo and reverb bound affect the end sound. I bet they weren't even recording sound for Bane on that take. I've been in films. If there is so much as an errant audible pin drop they will redo the take. For a movie on this scale, they wouldn't even take the risk. I bet almost all of Bane's lines are recorded in post prod.
