Yesterday thousands of extras filled up Heinz Field for a scene in The Dark Knight Rises. Bane showed up, and while it's hard to hear him, we get our first listen at what he might sound like. Check out the video of Bane's scene and photos from the shoot, courtesy of some really brave fans. No huge plot points are revealed, but if you're avoiding spoilers, don't watch the video!

His Voice sounds amazing...
I'm kinda surprised people are upset that he isn't Hispanic, why is that such a big deal? This is Hardy and Nolan's portrayal of Bane, it's NOT gonna be a direction translation of the comics.
I think having a creepy, British accent gives the character a lot more depth and personality.
I like it.

There is nothing creepy about a British accent.. It just sounds girly, out of line, not even rude or scary.. Want a creepy accent? African, Iraqi or Israeli, German... that's a creepy accent.

How is this a major plot detail? A villain is challenging Batman to show his identity. What else is new?

They won't use that voice in the film, Nolan knew that leaked footage of the scene would end up on the web so he probably just told Hardy to change his voice.

I can't believe you guys are posting this right now. I was there and really hoping the extremely significant information that we were entrusted with would not be leaked.

I'm not going to be posting major plot details, but until YouTube is asked to take down the video, I think it's cool that we get a good listen at Bane. Unfortunately there's no way the information will be kept secret...but I don't want to know anything about it!

Better? Nope.. Horrendous voice, doesn't fit Bane, doesn't even fit his physique, sounds dorky.

Umm.. To me that was a major plot detail. Maybe you couldn't but im sure the other true batman fans will be able to figure out what he's saying. I know I was able too. No there is no way to keep the info secret, but that doesn't mean you have to spread it more through your website.

Eddy, with all due respect man no one forced you to watch it. If you dont want to know then dont watch.

Well this is a batman-news site and the only reason to keep coming here is if you want spoilers about the movie otherwise there would be no articles on this site or nothing to talk about. If chris only told us that bane appeared on the field and that some guy filmed it....we would all probably search for it anyways.
I'm not happy about the spoilers either but I don't think it's this website's fault. Chris is just doing what this site is meant for. It's the idiots in Pittsburgh who are camping out in trees next to the sets so they can record every single shot filmed who are to blame.

Not to throw Shad on your opinon brother, but he can still have the exact same background an NOT actually be Spanish. His father could have been a Brit who was in a foreign country as a political or social uprising occured... Etcetv. Bane ends up the little British boy in a dirty South American Prison! Works perfectly in some ways. Keep the faith!...and don't eat eachother over this

I gotta say while it was interesting to hear Bane's unfinished voice (I swear I laughed sooo hard!!!), this is undoubtedly a huge spoiler. I was thinking at the football scene there would be a big fight but it seems like Bane will stage a live execution or something.
This would have been a really chilling and impactful scene....and now we've seen it. Granted, the scene is nowhere near completion so the effect will still be huge (especially when we hear what bane's voice will really sound like), we're all probably still gonna be blown away by it, but still.....add this to the list of huge spoilers.
I'm turning into the guy who always complains about spoilers yet keeps coming to this site lol. I don't even know what I want! hahaha

I added a spoiler warning to the post. Sorry about that!

Settle down guys. You had to be there all day to really understand what this scene represents. You're not getting much of a spoiler, besides hearing his voice for the first time. The voice is very creepy, for lack of a better word, and extremely animated. Tom is going to take the cake with this performance. The rest of the scene (hostages falling to their knees) and its dialogue was not played over the stadium PA. Obviously this is an important part of the film and Nolan didn't want to reveal too much. The way the crowd was arranged, if one of the hostages were Gordon or another important character, it would be extremely hard to make them out. At first I didn't notice that Bane had hostages, but as we were filming our crowd reactions, I then saw them.
As for people stating that he has trouble speaking with the mask on, this is simply not true. At the end of the day, he gave out some prizes and spoke to/thanked the crowd for their participation. He did all of this through the mask and his native accent and voice was easily heard. Tom and Chris Nolan obviously brewed up one hell of a personality for their take on Bane.Anyhow, the opportunity I was given to be apart of this production, I will never forget. With that said, I think it's lame that people who were at the top of the stadium had the audacity to record this part of the scene. I know everyone is entitled to their information, but the information we received prior to filming clearly said NO PHONES ALLOWED. I sat through all of this with my gf, five rows from the field, and STILL didn't take one picture... That was out of respect to the crew and the film.Regardless, I know everyone will be very pleased with Tom's performance and this scene is going to be epic. I'm still thrilled that I will be in it. Pure awesomeness!

Hey Leftysmoke, people who were attending the shoot said they did several takes of this scene and they were saying that with each take Bane's voice got better and became more suited to his character. Thoughts on that? Do you agree?
I'm not sure it could get any "better". The first time he came out, it seemed like he was feeling out his lines. However, after that, it was pure performance. The "snorting" and heavy breathing was so awesome. He basically sounds like a complete mad man, captivated in his "liberation" of Gotham. With that said, I can definitively acknowledge that Tom will absolutely bank on this performance. I just cannot believe that I have to wait until next summer to see what the rest of Nolan and crew have brewed up. The suspense is killing me!

His voice sounds so amazing. I can't wait. I hope they keep all the crackling and everything in there. Love it.

Just want to say, I'm glad I'm not the only one who decided to be naughty and take vids/pics. It's going to be an awesome scene when it's all put together in post.
To weigh in on the conversation, here's what I caught from my experience:
1. Every take that they piped in his voice over the loudspeakers, I heard "this is the instrument of your liberation."2. I have no idea what all exactly happened during our scene as far as real plot is concerned, and I was there the whole day. We were deliberately kept in the dark about everything except the most basic information that we needed in order to be able to do our parts and act like a real crowd in a real danger situation.
3. As to the hostage, I was a level down from the guy who recorded this particular video, so I didn't see very clearly - a lot of us thought it was Gordon because the guy was tall enough to be Gary Oldman and had a similar haircut, but I borrowed a guy's binoculars next to me and took a closer look. It wasn't, I repeat, WASN'T Gordon, nor was it the Joker (Y'all posting in a troll thread, there, folks). I actually concur with the post that said the hostage was Alon Aboutboul. No idea who the person is supposed to be in the film, but I know that in the last take they did of this, I'm pretty sure the hostage/guy on his knees was executed in some fashion. As far as we were able to hear in the audience (whether they cut audio so we couldn't hear or whatever), the hostage never identified himself to the world, so we won't know until somebody can find better footage with higher quality or until we see the finished product.
4. The tumblers were only there to get the crowd excited, from what I can see - they didn't get used in any of the filming the day we were all there. All they did was drive around the field and give Hines Ward a ride. One cool thing about the tumblers, though, is that there IS one that has a large tank-type cannon on top of it, which they used to demonstrate one of the explosives that they littered the field with. We WERE told that Bane stole the camo tumblers, so I'm not sure whether Batman will have a tumbler in this movie or not.My take on the whole thing is that this scene is just adding to the notion that Bane is trying to break the Bat through a war of attrition and exhaustion. If people are concerned about spoilers, they probably shouldn't come to a site that's specifically dedicated to giving as much information as possible about the movie. It's not like we've given away that Bane is Batman's twin brother's college roommate twice removed on his uncle's side or something... if you don't want to know, then don't visit the site.4 likes
Alon Aboutboul is supposed to play as the mad scientist. Hm... I wonder how these lines fit into context with him then?

I think that bane's voice is suprisingly cool. When everybody expected to hear a hulkish and monstrous bane (maybe like the bane of batman and robin, loooool) Chris Nolan and Tom Hardy gave us a much more interesting character with unique charateristics. We cannot forget that this is a reallystic bane and not a comicbook bane. And to all of the people who doubt Bane believe in Christopher Nolan, he deserves it.

At least we know how he'll sound like in the film so no more spanish related theories for his character but his dialouge sounds like that of a revolutionary :) very interesting,I cant wait to see how this turns out!

He sounds like someone out of some Shakespearean play.

The voice really grows on you. And I read on the site FB page that that was a rough first take. People need to go down to the pharmacy, buy a pack of chill pills, go home, pour a glass of water, take the chill pills, sit down on the couch, light up a joint and....chiiiiiiill.

Ok. If you are Nolan, about to shoot what looks like a very important scene, in an uncontrolled set, where you can bet everything will leak out in a matter of minutes, wouldn't you try and control it yourself? Would it be too far fetched to think maybe he asked Hardey to trow in a funny voice for the couple of cell phones that were surely recording. Personally, I dont mind the voice, its different. I trust Nolan enough to know that Im gonna love this movie however he chooses to do it, but my guess is, regarding Bane's voice as well as many other things, we are in for a surprise.
I seriously doubt it. There is no way Christopher Nolan could meticuously control an environment that large. Not mention the waste of time it would be to have the actor play out a completely different voice just for the sake of dissuading his audience. Having the voice leaked is a small price to pay when considering the other steps he took in order to preserve confidentially of details in this shoot. This voice is very well trained and calculated; it's not just something that is spilled out. It has an iconography about it almost as prevelant as the Joker's so not only am I fan of it but I'm also impressed about how important Christpoher Nolan has made the voice work for all his characters (Batman, Scarecrow, Joker, and now Bane). Love it or hate it, that's the voice in the film. My money is that the sound department is gonna add a little more to his voice though.. Knowing Nolan, that contraption over his mouth isn't imply cosmetic. Finally I should add I'm a big fan of the voice. It's a complete surprise and is a character of its own that I keep listening to in order to better understand it.

...i've never been to this site before but am interested in all the 'hype' about tdkr since i was an extra during the filming on sunday...i've had the chance to be an extra in several movies filmed in pittsburgh over the past few years (the haunting hour: don't think about it; the kill point; warrior; she's out of my league; steel town) and the best part of sunday, for me, was the chance to see the 'out of the ballpark' professionalism of this production team...absolutely brilliant.
...on sunday, i left my cell phone in the car as we were instructed. when i got to the set, i signed the required confidentiality agreement stating that no pics nor anything that happened on set could be shared or discussed with anyone.
...there is mention of folks hanging in trees with cell phones...or people on the street watching filming..news choppers flying overhead....and there is nothing about that can be done about those situations...and..none of them have signed confidentiality documents.
...but much of what has been posted here, and on other sites, has been from extras on the set who violated that agreement.
...and in the posts about spoilers... whether things should be leaked...if that is right or wrong, the only undisputable fact that i see is that when you post pics or info that have come from people who have violated a confidentiality agreement, then you have a business/site whose success is based on the dishonesty of others..are you honestly ok with that?

Oh my God, I hope they overdub his voice in the studio. Maybe Hardy can't talk with the mask on and they'll have him record a new voice when the filming is over. Because, that sounds awful. Not at all fitting the character in my opinion. He sounds like Alfred's wimpy nephew.
The more info that leaks, the more nervous I'm getting. I need to stop looking at leaks.
That's actually a GREAT point that I hadn't considered: yes his voice sounds odd, but with that mask on there's almost no way that's his finished voice. It would almost have to be redubed after principle photography is completed.

i heard that the voiceover will be done by bumble bee man, from the simpsons

To those concerned with Hardy's vocal portrayal of Bane: This will not be the final product. Frankly, I find it odd they even piped Bane's voice through the stadium sound system in the first place, with all the echo and reverb bound affect the end sound. I bet they weren't even recording sound for Bane on that take. I've been in films. If there is so much as an errant audible pin drop they will redo the take. For a movie on this scale, they wouldn't even take the risk. I bet almost all of Bane's lines are recorded in post prod.

Three things. First, this is BATMAN-NEWS.COM, NOT friggin' BOF. Spoilers are posted here. That's been established since Day 1. Second, I always love how people complain about spoilers that no one made them watch. "I pushed the play button, but it's YOUR FAULT for posting it in the first place!" Wrong. Finally, it's mostly been covered, but the voice here can't be finished product. Even at that, what we're hearing is from a cell phone camera. Ever tried to record something at a concert with that or a point-and-shoot? Sound kind of gets jacked. Even if that's the case, I'd wager there's going to be some post-production work on that.

First take he said "Behold the instrument of your destruction". They wheeled out some giant sphere that reminded me of a classic supervillain doomsday device. Possibly something stolen from Wayne Enterprises like the tumblers and the vaporizers League of Shadows used to emit the fear gas in Batman Begins.

And the hostage wasn't a familiar actor from the franchise.

He always said "behold the instrument of your liberation" every take, unless you're talking about the first rehearsal take where they didn't pipe the sound through the stadium speakers

I'm pretty sure the first take he said "destruction". Because the line went from "Behold the ..." to "This is the instrument of your liberation" which is in the video.

God, this movie is going to be FULL OF WIN at immeasurable proportions.

I was there, and I know you won't believe me, but i really really really REALLY think the hostage (wich can barely stay on feet, he looked like wounded) is THE JOKER!
by the way, he said: Instrument of your DEMOLITION, not liberation

Why on earth would it be The Joker? The last thing Bane says is "Why don't you identify yourself to world?" If anything, it's Batman. Or it's someone they THINK is the Batman.
Um, because no one knew the Joker's identity. And if the crowd was cheering, one would think Bane would be "making an example" of someone Gotham truly despised. Depending on the timeframe from TDK, it could PLAUSABY be The Joker. Can anyone else attest to the fact the person Bane had "hostage" looked like The Joker?

I was there and I can say that the hostage was not an actor known from the past movies, on the other hand .. is impossible to say if it looked like the joker because we were so farrr away

Well, it has some "wild" sense to me....
1) Joseph Gordon Levitt looks like Heath Ledger. Enough to have me confused when I didn't see Ledger's name in the credits for Brick.2) Although Scarecrow's story is told in Batman Begins, Nolan still brought the character back for a small cameo in The Dark Knight.
3) In the Knightfall comic storyline, featuring Bane as the main antagonist, the Joker has a short but vital cameo role.
4) According to Empire mag a studio release for DK Rises states that JGL is playing a Gotham beat cop called John Blake.J Gordon Levitt's character in Dark Knight Rises is purportedly called John Blake. JOhn blaKE. JOKE. He's gonna play the Joker. Am I wrong?

bane takes the joker out of arkham and kill him infront the crowd to make an statement: I'm not the chaos, i'm the new order, this guy here, he's the chaos blowing up hospitals and all that kind of shit.... I will guide you to the glory, and to make it happen we all need to kill the batman. but of course the truth is that Bane is with the leagues of shadows, and wants to destroy gotham.how this can happen? who's playing the joker? i've no fuck idea, but i guess that is part of the "trick under the sleeve" of Nolan
just some wild thoughts :p

Okay, I didn't read all the comments, sorry about that. First of all, Bane looks awesome, so does Selina. It's looking to be one hell of a big scene. Just can't wait for the movie :D. Second: when de big trailer for TDK arrived was it then december 2007? Does that than mean that we could get the big trailer this december as well?
Third: I think it would be a good move of WB that they'll attached the first teaser trailer for Man of Steel to TDKR ;D. Considering the fact that it's released a year after TDKR.
And the new logo: FANTASTIC!!!!!!2 likes
