Robert Pattinson says that The Batman: Part II will begin shooting at the end of this year.
Speaking with Deadline at the premiere of Mickey 17, Pattinson was asked about the status of The Batman: Part II – a working title for the moment – and acknowledged the delay for this film has been lengthy. Pattinson confirmed the film would begin production by the end of this year, and added "it’s a while…everything feels so long ago because COVID just erased three years."
Asked if he could reveal anything about the plot, the actor said he couldn't, but "it’s cool, though, it’s cool."
His comments follow on from information Andy Serkis shared recently that he knows the film's plot. "I know there's a huge appetite, and boy, am I as hungry for it as you all are," said the actor. "I talked to Matt recently because I was doing the press thing with him about The Penguin, I interviewed him... He told me the story of The Batman 2, and I'm so excited for it!"
Both of these tidbits are welcome updates on the long-gestating sequel.
The Batman hit theaters on March 4, 2022 and went on to earn $765.95 million dollars globally. The franchise received an interim expansion with the release of The Penguin – an original series with Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oz Cobb from the first film – on Max.
The untitled The Batman sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on Oct. 1, 2027.
