Rocksteady reportedly working on new Batman game

Rocksteady is reportedly heading back to Gotham City for a new Batman game, but it will be a few years before we see it on our consoles.

In a lengthy new profile from Bloomberg on the state of video game development at Warner Bros., a surprising nugget awaited readers at the end of the article: A new Batman game is in development.

The article makes it clear the game is several years away from release, but that development has indeed started.

It isn't unclear whether this is set in the Arkham universe or could be something new. Considering that the majority of the article deals with the financial pains caused by the collapse of games such as Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and MultiVersus, it seems highly likely the company would want to return to the safe harbor that is the successful Arkham series.

The article also touches on the long-reported Wonder Woman game, and it says that it is still in development but does make it clear that it is not enjoying an easy path to release. If that game is ever finished, it is still a question mark.

While the Arkham series has lived on as recently as Batman: Arkham Shadow for the Meta Quest 3, the article does give you the sense this new game would be a more traditional title. For the time being, we'll just have to live on the hope that a new game is indeed in development.

I think people would have been more tolerant towards SS:KTJL if the writing was at least good... It was not.
There's a reason Dragon Age: The Veilguard failed and it wasn't because it was a single player game.

I have a feeling even if we get a single player game with Batman as the main protagonist, unless they can get people who actually want to tell good stories and write good characters it would still be bad.
The gameplay/performance of the game is a whole different issue of whether they have any talented developers left in that company and they haven't driven them off/fired them already.

I always thought writing for a game would be a bit of a challenge. Unlike a book of tv show you have to write around gameplay elements and locations that players go to

  Never said it was easy.
  That's why you need to spend your money hiring actually talented people and not recycle the same people who have proven to produce games that the general audience rejected.
  Not saying that some of the problems don't come from the top (no Andrew Wilson, Veilguard didn't fail because it wasn't a live service game), but there seems to be a general issue of the video game industry not listening to feedback from their own consumers or learning the wrong lessons from their failures.
  I would rather have a few great unique games a year (with the bloated length of most AAA games, that's as many I can spend time playing anyway) than dozens of bad to mediocre clones of each other.

A Batman game with the Nemesis system would be cool for a new universe. Criminal that WB copyrighted it, but only used it twice(that WW game I doubt is coming out)

I think a new universe with similar gameplay would be the best bet tbh. Outside of prequels you can't do much with Arkham anymore

  I honestly couldn't say? Maybe a more Year One or Early Year stuff? Kinda like Origins but not tied down by being a prequel. I know it's popular to do early year Batman but it's newish in terms of games. Either that or a Batman Beyond game, could be Arkham, could not be

I think the best route they could take is to have some kind of flashpoint event that resets the events and continues after Arkham Shadow, but does its own thing. There are many stories to tell in that period, but with the flashpoint event, they can tell new stories and not worry about continuity. SSKTJL ruined the timeline anyway, and with Kevin's passing, this continuation makes sense with Roger. The Arkham name and formula are great, so I wouldn't abandon that. The only thing I would like to see them do is use multiple studios to make this game, and have Camouflag helm the game and be the creative lead. Even though they make VR games, they should definitely lead the creative direction for the new game. They have proven to listen to the fans, respect the lore, and show their love when creating the game. No unnecessary woke shit like other studios with sweet baby nonsense, just focused on making a great game.

Add the nemesis system and get paul dini back to the table. I still want a batman game with the court of owls done right. The locations and interiors were pretty nice in gotham knights but the story of the court of owls sucked really bad. The court got teased in arkham orgins so we definitely need them in an Arkham title.

I would hope Gunn and crew get its stuff together to the point this can be based on Brave and Bold. Arkham Universe is all used up IMO. They made great games and personally I think they desperately need to diversify with other AAA level JL characters.
