Matt Reeves admits there have been discussions about integrating Robert Pattinson's Batman into the DCU, but nothing is happening yet.
Reeves spoke with Josh Horowitz at the Golden Globes on Sunday and was asked about the persistent rumor that Pattinson's Batman could eventually join the DC Universe.
"I mean you know it really comes down to whether or not it makes sense," said Reeves. "I think what's been great is there was really a kind of a story that I wanted to tell we're calling The Epic Crime Saga and all of that which is the thrust of what we wanted to do and it's been important to me to be able to play that out. And you know James and Peter have been really, really great about that, and they're letting us do that and you know what the future brings I can't really tell you."
He went on to add, "I have no idea right now except that my head is down now about getting The Batman: Part II shooting and to make it something really, really special, which, of course, is the most important thing. And if they decide like we really want Rob to be our DCU Batman, we'll have to see where that goes."
For now, the only officially confirmed actors returning for the sequel are Robert Pattinson and Farrell. Although not officially named as of yet, Andy Serkis has made it fairly clear he will be returning to the role of Alfred Pennyworth.
The Batman hit theaters on March 4, 2022 and went on to earn $765.95 million dollars globally. There is already talk of possible expansions beyond these projects with Matt Reeves planning for his micro-universe that will be known as the "Batman Epic Crime Saga."
The untitled The Batman sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on Oct. 1, 2027.
