The Batman: Part II to receive a new title

It seems that The Batman: Part II is going to be receiving a new moniker, but what it is will be a mystery for now.

Hot on the heels of the one-year delay of the release for The Batman: Part II, The Hollywood Reporter is now saying the film will receive a new title. No explanation has been shared as to why the title will be changing, and no hints were shared to the potential new name either.

One other new bit of news is that production has now shifted to the third quarter of 2025, meaning production could begin any time between July 1 and Sept. 30, 2025. No word yet on how long the shoot would last for.

For now, the only officially confirmed actors returning for the sequel are Robert Pattinson and Farrell. Although not officially named as of yet, Andy Serkis has made it fairly clear he will be returning to the role of Alfred Pennyworth.

The Batman hit theaters on March 4, 2022 and went on to earn $765.95 million dollars globally. There is already talk of possible expansions beyond these projects with Matt Reeves planning for his micro-universe that will be known as the "Batman Epic Crime Saga."

The untitled The Batman sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on Oct. 1, 2027.

September 2024:

“The script is finished, and everyone is preparing to start production next year.” — Matt Reeves

Mid December:

"There hasn’t yet been a first draft of a script." — James Gunn

A little latter:

“We’re finishing the script. We’re going to be shooting next year.” — Matt Reeves

Now:

”The only reason for the delay is there isn't a full script (those of you who follow me here probably know that already). Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films.” — James Gunn

Seems like Reeves is meeting resistance from Mr Gunn who hasn’t accepted the first draft script as being acceptable for shooting since EW posted Gunn’s comments on Threads as an addendum but stood by their own quote of Reeves confirming script completion back in December.

    Nobody knows other than maybe the people who heard this. There are just a few insiders/leakers who have claimed they heard that. Bobatalks was one of them, and I have some faith in his sources since he seemed to be pretty much spot on about the whole thing with Dr Julien Rush and the scarecrow connection.

I have a lot more faith in Reeves than Gunn. If Reeves is ready, the movie should be good to go. It's weird though, clearly they are just reporting two different things.

I hope all of these news don't mean Pattinson will join the DCU. I'm afraid Reeves will change his initial "Epic crime saga" plan in favor of what the studios wish him to do.

I also hope this doesn't happen. Nothing against the DCU, but I am deeply invested with what Reeves is doing and his vision of a crime noir series. That being said, I don't see Reeves sticking around if they force him despite him not wanting it. If he does merge, I will assume that they reached a compromise Reeves was satisfied with and that maintains his overall vision.
I do still think its possible that he is also spending extra time on this movie because he just wants to go all out with it in the event that it does have to be his last so they can make way for the DCU's version. If anyone is trying to force them to merge, I feel like its probably not Gunn, but rather Zaslav. He wants DC to have it's MCU and for some reason I imagine maybe doesn't really "get" the whole Elseworld's concept and is really against having more than one batman on screen. He probably sees the success of the Reevesverse and is just thinking something like "we have a batman right there. Just put them together", not really understanding why Reeves OR Gunn might be against the idea.

  Zslav is probably pretty hands off on the whole thing, Gunn and Safran would be the ones with sway over the ideas.
