It seems that Joel Kinnaman will appear in the upcoming second season of Peacemaker in some way, shape, or form.
Peter Sollett is one of the directors of Peacemaker season 2, and in a social media post celebrating his wrapping of the project, it seems he accidentally let the cat out of the bag. As he listed the actors he wanted to thank, one of them was Joel Kinnaman. The post was later deleted, and nothing has been said since.
Kinnaman played Rick Flag in Both Suicide Squad movies, and didn't make it out of the second film alive, having been killed by Peacemaker (John Cena). Following the post, ScreenRant recently spoke to Kinnaman and asked him about that post. He replied, "I don't know what to say. That's ridiculous. I would never. I would never be on a show like that. It's not what I do. It's not what I do."
We'll let you interpret that as you please.
Frank Grillo has now taken on the role of Rick Flag Sr. and has been confirmed to play a major role in the new Peacemaker episodes. It's not too difficult to imagine there would be some flashbacks to him with his son. It's also not too difficult to imagine Chris/Peacemaker hallucinating Flag, as he was shown to hallucinate other people in the first season.
Whatever the case may be, it seems as though we may yet see some more of Kinnaman in the role in the not-too-distant future.
Peacemaker season 2 is set to debut in the latter half of 2025.
