After weeks of speculation, rumors, and perhaps an accidental early reveal, DC has announced that the DC Universe will soon be split in two. This October, the 64-page DC All In Special #1 one-shot by Scott Snyder, Joshua Williamson, Daniel Sampere, and Wes Craig will close the book on the storyline that began back in 2022 with "Death of the Justice League". In its place, it will start a new chapter for the main DC Universe and an entirely new "Absolute Universe" to run alongside it.

DC's Absolute Universe is said to be a "reinvention" of the characters you know and love, separate from their counterparts in the main universe. Formed by "Darkseid energy" from his conflict with the Justice League in contrast with the main universe's "Superman energy", its heroes will be much more of underdogs, including a far more "primal" Batman. Both universes will still be connected by one colossal "mega-story" beginning with DC All In Special #1.

Starting off this universe is Absolute Batman by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta, Absolute Superman by Jason Aaron and Rafa Sandoval, and Absolute Wonder Woman by Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman. More series and creative teams should be announced in the coming months.

As for the main DC Universe, "All In" is meant to act as a fresh jumping on point for new readers (though emphatically not a reboot or retcon). October will see new creative teams for Action Comics, Detective Comics, Titans, Batman and Robin, Harley Quinn, Nightwing, and Catwoman, as well as new storylines beginning in Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, and Poison Ivy. According to Snyder, every book will kick off new stories over the course of the Fall, including multiple brand new series soon to be announced.

    Zdarsky is keeping Batman?

    I guess I really am done for good with that title. That hurts.

    Absolute Batman's art is the very antithesis to what I want and I'm not a fan of Scott Snyder's later writing, the only Detective Comics run I've found anything to like about since Flashpoint is Ram V's, and I read none of the solos listed.

    I make an honest effort not to be a downer and look for positive things to say about the comics but this news is a slap in the face.

      The art on Absolute Batman could be fine on its own in an overly stylized comic (think Frank Miller's better comics for example), but when you put it right next to more traditionally proportioned looking characters that's when it becomes farcical.

        I think it's ugly. Horribly ugly.

        Maybe I've been spoiled by the classics. To go from Don Newton's stunning Bruce Wayne, modeled on classic silver screen stars, or to go from Neal Adams' lithe athlete to this Absolute Batman shaped like an inflatable pool toy is... not happening, not for me. Just no.

          One of DC's top priorities is to make female fans feel unseen or, if seen, then condescended to like stupid children whose presence is suffered but not welcomed, but considered essential to business. They will keep us fed us on cotton candy and Buttwing. Meanwhile, Bruce and Jason are getting drawn like action movie rejects.

          They believe this is what we like and how we want things to remain eternally.

      Taylor on Detective with his shocking reveal about Bruce's origin is a boot to the head.

      Practically the exact creative teams I wanted on Batman and Red Hood are on Nightwing and Batman and Robin.

      I started my day in a good mood. Hahaha...

      I think I'm ready to give up.

      You were right...Zdarsky is still on. Batman is screwed and Detective in the hands of Tom Taylor...the Dark Knight is toast.

        Theres nothing in this Absolute universe that appeals to me either.

        DC is adrift.

          I recently read the Batman train with Ed Brubaker and Scott McDaniel. Those were examples of the kind of Batman stories that they need desperately right now. No one's trying any wild stunts, or rent conning, or snotty deconstruction. It's just a straight up sustainable reasonable Batman storyline. They need to have some wacko take over the entire city and a handful of issues, kill anybody, take away anything major from anybody. I just wish they could take that more measured approach to the character.

          Also I would certainly want to read Dan Mora on Superman, the problem is that they keep slapping that "s" on so many other characters and I feel like it takes away from Clark himself. It's a trend I don't like in modern Comics we're just to turn everything into a bloody family book

    Seems like comics have a jumping-on point/'fresh start'-event every six months or so these days. Other than general suckage that drives their sales into the ground, what are the drivers for this? After reading comics for 20-something years, I haven't read either DC or Marvel in the last 6.

    Out of continuity limited series are practically the only thing DC ever does well now.

    Does anyone like that art for Absolute Batman? Anyone at all? Every comment I've seen about the Batman design has been negative. It's like looking at a parody of the nineties extreeeeeeme aesthetic. All that's missing are the pouches and buckles. When I first saw it, I couldn't believe it was real. Now that I know it's real, I still can't believe it's real.

    Of all the things people complained about when Tim Drake: Robin and Batgirls were running, the one thing that got complained about most was the art. Weird art in confined spaces is okay every now and again. Weird art in the most important book for your upstart alternate universe is a stupid risk.

    And Supes is looking like Adam Driver just woken up from a blackout drunk by a loud sound.

    Also, Chip Zdarsky is awful and everything he does is dogshit.

    Nice that Wilson is still on Poison Ivy, but my interest in DC just took another big hit. I'm not getting into any ongoings unless they announce a Red Hood solo that has no relation to Martinbrough's puke stain of a comic.

      Couldn’t agree with you more. DC as a whole has really been putting out some low quality ideas these days, far too many fresh starts as well.

    Positives are- Dan Mora is on Superman finally. Williamson has not made a mess of the book like I feared. Hopefully they will course correct on the idiotic direction of Flash. They really should give Arthur Curry his own book again. Negatively I am very skeptical about the fact that this is just another take on the new Ultimate Universe and Marvel has been doing already or the heroes are underdogs. I'm cautiously optimistic on Scott Snyder doing Batman again even if the art looks very weird. Not quite sure about hobo superman.

      I think Tom Taylor has taken every opportunity in his other books to make Batman look like a hard liner jerk. Have no reason to think what he won't do it again. Someone should tell him that Bruce just got his flipping money back so perhaps throwing social media level shade at him for being rich will likely not gel.

    Hmm.

    I won't ask for much, just two ongoings, one for Nightwing and one for Red Hood. Unyoke them from Bruce, give Dick back his authority and give Jason back his continuity.

    I've turned into primarily a reader of books about the two eldest Robins. Two ongoings sounds like a reasonable request to me. I'll put my money where my mouth is. But the days of showing my support for great characters by buying bad comics are long gone.

    The only complaint I have is the "logo". They could've done something like this (which took 6 seconds to draw), and still have the big bulky aesthetic they're going for; while still retaining the "bat" symbolism.

        It doesn't appear they're going for a hyper-realistic batman, so the exaggerated proportions don't bother me much. If you look at the All-In promo image, the head looks more proportionate. Then again, any head is gonna look small when you're the Absolute Unit Batman.

    the batman design is silly, except many people in gotham has body that big. It'll be easy for police to figure out who the batman is based on the body proportion alone if only bruce wayne who has body that big.
