For months now there have been rumors and leaks regarding a so-called "Absolute Universe" meant to spin out of the Absolute Power event. This is purported to be a parallel, ongoing shared DC universe, similar to Marvel's "Ultimate" Universes. Free from the constraints of the main continuity, it would offer creators the ability to give a fresh new spin on the characters. DC has refused to confirm or deny any of these rumors, until now.
Prior to any sort of big announcement at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, DC has advertised some of the merchandise they'll be selling. Among the usual apparel and exclusives, two items stick out. These include a T-shirt with the cover of Absolute Batman featured on the front, and a "special edition foil cover (6-5/8" x 10-3/16") SDCC 2024 Exclusive Absolute Batman Ashcan". For those unaware, an "ashcan" comic is an initial version of a comic created for the purposes of trademark and promotion.
Whether or not this was intended as the official reveal of the title (and by extension the rest of Absolute line), it seems to confirm it nonetheless. We probably won't know more until SDCC, where DC will be set to reveal all of their plans regarding the aftermath of Absolute Power. With so many bat titles either finishing their runs or ending entirely, it's sure to be a big event for Batman fans. As always we'll be sure to keep you informed of all of it.
