Director David F. Sandberg took to social media on Monday to reveal the new Shazam: Fury of the Gods costumes for the entire Shazam family.

Following a brief tease of the Shazam costume, Sandberg has decided to pull the veil all the way back on the updated costumes of the entire Shazam Family. "Don’t know how long we can keep the new suits from leaking so here’s a pic I took the other day," said Sandberg of the reveal.

This release follows a hectic weekend that saw Sasha Calle's Supergirl costume from The Flash show up in multiple set photos. No official images of that suit have been released as of yet, but the industry norm for many years now has been to release official photos before filming outside.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is due to hit theaters on June 2, 2023.

Oh, they look good. Also, Grace Fulton playing the powered version. I always thought Mary was 18 so she didn't change physically in the comics, so I like it this way.

Dang! They all look SO much better!! Like the suit design is ACTUALLY good. And capes are much nicer too, it seems!
Shame Shazam himself actually looks to have the least depth of color, though, and I am sad there aren’t any hoods :/
Also, hopefully they add some cool light effects in post, or if not it’s still probably better to have none than to use those cheap plastic LED’s like the first movie, honestly

Kinda sad they have to release these pics since there's people snooping taking shots like what happened with Supergirl.
That being said, the green suit is now black?

        The pic in the article looked basically black to me too at first, though with a greenish hue, and I am most definitely not colorblind. Different brightness/display would just make it even worse

      Let's not forget the first movie featured a group of horrific demon monsters that tore up an entire roomful of people or that it literally begins with a violent car crash following an abusive father raging at his young son. This is a superhero movie first and foremost, and a superhero should look like a superhero, not like a Teletubby. But either way, it was bad costume design all around, because it contradicted the visual language of its own film and universe, it looked cheap and foamy, the muscle padding was overdone, and it just did not stand up to par with the quality and intricacy of most live-action CBM costumes nowadays in general

    Eh. I think some of the costumes are better here than the picture from the new film but for Cpt. Marvel himself i think the new one is better.

      I don't know, I feel like there should be some more visual contrast between the Marvel family and Black Adam for example.
      Besides Zachary Levi playing a 15 year old who acts like a 10 year old for some reason.

      These costumes, unlike the first movie's, all actually fit consistently with the visual language of the film and universe, don't look cheaply made and foamy, have realistic musculature unlike the overpadded silliness of the first, and actually stand up to par with the quality and intricacy featured in most live-action CBM costumes nowadays in general

        Good design for a McDonald's action figure, maybe, but not for a modern live-action superhero film. And I liked the movie itself just fine, but that doesn't change that it had bad costume design for the main character. There's a whole host of problems with it:
        First of all, even if we were to go with the lazy as heck “well it’s magic so everything goes” excuse, that design still does not look magical. A magical wizard’s outfit would not look like a life-size plastic toy, complete with cheesy bright colors and mundane, fakey, yellow LED lighting. And if you don’t believe me, look no further than the DCEU’s depiction of magical things in the movie itself: the Rock of Eternity, Seven Deadly Sins (which I thought were brilliantly designed, by the way), Wizard staff, Eye of Sin, the magic itself, and even to a lesser degree parts of the Wizard’s outfit all make the effort to blend in with the real world. The Rock of Eternity is fittingly dark and mysterious and cavernous, with all the structures within looking ancient and roughly hewn out of the rock itself. The Sins all look dark and grotesque and are designed to simulate actual living creatures with texture and depth and biologies in a way befitting of what one might imagine a group of actual, real-life demons to look like, all featuring similar coloration, substance, and design, since they are all of a similar “species” or kind of being. The staff - though slightly clunky - achieves a vibe that goes with the magical atmosphere established by these other things by continuing to employ nature, as is traditionally associated with magic in all of its depictions, making it into what looks like an ancient tree branch whose twisted roots encircle a mysterious white light emanating from a crystal growing out from within the branch. The Eye of Sin matches the staff in using the same blue-white light for the orb itself that has become indicative of magical energy that is present in the staff’s crystal, as well as emulating the staff’s branches surrounding the glowing crystal by depicting a magical barrier around the Eye that resembles a sort of organic cage of multi-branched coral-like material. The magic of Shazam itself is also rooted in nature and remains consistent with the rest of what has been depicted: the magical lightning bolts tend to look and behave like real lightning and are of the same natural color that the other magic lights in the movie; the moments when the Wizard summons a person to see if they’re worthy are always depicted in a creepy way, with realistic frost effects and the cool change of all text into the rapidly cycling ancient magical runes; and so on. Even the Wizard’s outfit, while ironically not as believably designed as the comic version, at least makes an attempt to fit with the idea of what it is supposed to be, making use of robes with many folds and the traditional long hair and beard emblematic of wisdom.
        The Shazam costume, on the other hand, is bad design because it does not look remotely magical, and - you must at the very least agree with this - is not at all consistent with the designs of the rest of the movie, especially in regards to how magic and magical objects are treated and depicted. It has light features, most prominently the lightning bolt symbol, that - as opposed to glowing from the blue-white magical energy radiating from his body (which could have been added in post with effects to look coolest, or at the very least could have even been done practically) that matches the natural lighting found in the staff, the Eye, and the lightning bolts he produces, and which would even match some of the better designs from the comics themselves - are clearly produced by and filtered through the same LED’s and yellow plastic found in many children’s toys. The body itself is of a bright, artificial red, as opposed to a deeper, more subdued crimson that could potentially fit the magical aesthetic of the world better, and looks very much like standard spandex, as opposed to anything close to what a wizard would actually wear. The cape, too, bears none of the natural, mysterious, or ancient aspects that everything else I went through does, being instead a bright white, short cape, with an awkwardly stiff and foamy looking hood that is never worn.
        In addition to being inconsistent with its own movie and magic in general, the suit also does not look like it could exist in the same universe as Man of Steel, Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad, Justice League, etc., even though it supposedly does. All the other heroes’ suits are highly detailed and are at least somewhat grounded, even Wonder Woman’s, who wears what looks like actual Ancient Greek armor. The Shazam costume, though, goes in the exact opposite direction as all of those, lacking in detail, consistent design elements, and verisimilitude. That can be fine for a cartoon or comic book, but that simply doesn’t work in live action, especially in contrast with everything else in the DCEU and even in the Shazam movie itself.
        Finally, there’s also the issues of how fake it looks, not just because of the cheesy elements mentioned above, but because of the over-the-top, clearly unproportional, not natural-looking muscle padding and overall low-budget appearance.
        Now, Mark Strong actually responded to the comments of how bad the costume looks saying he thinks it looks that way because it is meant to be the magical manifestation of what the child wearing it would imagine a superhero to look like, and that’s actually the best excuse one could make for such bad design - that it was intentional and there is in-universe reasons for it to look that way! However, the script itself does not support this theory, actually seeming to disprove it by Billy’s indirectly telling his foster family in the scene where they are all discussing the new hero who has emerged that he “didn’t actually pick his costume,” as a defense for someone saying it looked “stupid,” which also suggests he admits it isn’t what he would have picked - or something like that - and then, when the rest of the kids get powers, their suits, too, are in exactly the same style as Billy’s. You’d think if the costumes were actually simply manifestations of what they would want to look like that they would 1. Not look stupid to the people wearing them, and 2. Have more variation from person to person, instead of all looking like a uniform. So, instead, the movie just seemed to make a silly looking costume, go so far as to call it silly looking in the movie, and yet still not have any reason behind doing so.

        Literally your entire reason for disliking it is because of the padding. If you just remove the padding the costume doesn't look like an action figure. It's that simple. Maybe also improve the boots imo. If anything, these new costumes, which are great btw, are more generic and uninspired than the original ones because the original ones actually tried to do something different from darkish hyper textured fabric over a muscle suit. It was more classic and it would have look great had the padding been lessened to not look like a toy as you put it.

        They don't choose their costumes. If they did, the bad design would be a bit more justifiable. Mark Strong even tried to use that excuse, but the movie itself does nothing to support it, and in fact contradicts it, when Billy indirectly explains to the foster family that he didn't get to choose his costume after they make fun of it. Really cool costumes! I prefer the tone colors of the first film, though. Here the blue and especially the green are like too dark.
When I saw the first movie I was disappointed that Mary's young actress didn't play Mary Marvel, considering that she was entering college, and I was also disappointed that Mary Marvel has barely anything to do in the final fight. I hope they give her more to do in this sequel.
PS: I'd love to see the design of the original Cap Marvel cape, more like Roman, I think, but this looks okay too (though the cape is too long).

I just love these new suits. The colours have more depth to them. The fabric has more texture and doesn't look like spandex.
And the suits themself look so much more detaled this time.
Also this reveal just made me 10x more hyped for Black Adam's suit reveal. I can't wait to see that 6'5" hulking giant in a Black Black Adam suit.
It just might be majestic.
