Zachary Levi confirms Shazam! Fury of the Gods to film in early 2021

It looks as though Shazam will once again say his name just after we enter 2021.

Film productions are beginning to get back to work, and the includes films that hadn't even entered production yet. Included in that category, it seems that Shazam! Fury of the Gods is prepping to get underway in the first quarter of 2021.

Appearing on Dan Fogler's 4D Xperience this weekend, Zachary Levi said "They announced that we were gonna do a sequel pretty much right after we premiered. They knew we were tracking well enough, they were happy enough with the numbers." He went on to add, "So they have been steadily and earnestly working on the script for the sequel and I think Q1 of next year is the idea."

"COVID has kind of made everything a little bit up in the air, but very much the intent is to make another one," he added. "We gotta get to it fast, the kids are growing fast."

It was revealed during DC FanDome in August that the second film would be titled Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Director David F. Sandberg has literally shrugged his shoulders at which gods the title is referring to, so we'll just have to wait and see.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods release is set for Nov. 4, 2022.

I hope the film doubles down on the comedy with the kids.
I can do without more overblown cgi fests that take up a large portion of the film but grow tiring after a few minutes. I enjoyed the first film, particularly the first two thirds but checked out a bit towards the end once the computer animators took over.

DC should continue doing more small movies.Low risk, High reward.Even Birds of prey seems to be doing great at Amazon.

    Birds of prey have 36,961 reviews so far on Amazon.Only big movies get that many.Seems like, Covid 19 has helped it.

      I didn't mind BOP. Sure, I wish it was more comic-book centric & didn't like that Black Mask was killed off or seemingly effeminate as opposed to his comic book personality, but I didn't end up completely hating what Margot & Christina Hodson did. It was the film no one asked for... but if they do things in an interesting way with Flash and Flashpoint, we might see a return of these characters done the right way & maybe even see Black Mask get another go at it...
      Okay, I'm pausing myself. Maybe I'm being too optimistic here. DC is the same team afraid to do another Superman film due to lack of writing talent, vision, & past experience. Flashpoint opens up beautiful possibilities for all the DC characters, but for them to have the vision to go the extra mile like this is asking a bit much right now. I'll stay hopeful on my own. I digress.

Let's be honest: the first one was ok, but it had huge problems. The main one being Shazam and Billy not acting AT ALL like the same person.
Billy was too cool for school, bitter, apathetic and arrogant while Shazam was like a dumb 7 year old.
Hell, Asher Angel turned 18 yesterday. How old is Billy going to be in the movie and how will Levy adapt?
Also, can Shazam fight this time around?
Another big problem that movie had is it stole the thunder from the main character by giving powers to everyone already.
That's like if at the end of Batman Begins Bruce had adopted Dick

  Even so, it made me care about the main characters and had a very positive family vibe, which is something you don't see often nowadays. All heroes must have no parents or terrible parents.

  I think it's one of the best in the DCEU. I agree about Billy and Shazam not being that similar, but getting super powers is something that would shake most depressed kids out of their stink and make them giddy. I think Billy in real life became more upbeat by the end of the film.
  I also think him sharing his powers with his family tracked with his character development in the film, with him learning to accept and embrace his family. That's the kind of basic storytelling and development that other films in the DCEU lack.

    It's definitely one of the better ones, but being better than JL, BvS, SS, BoP... is not that hard.

      I think it was better than WW, MoS and Aquaman as well. And I don't even like the character. Just judging strictly from a film-making perspective.

  hmm I think its probably the best DCEU movie. I think overall it was just the tightest compared to all the others. What you mention may be problems(the billy/shazam thing at least. Don't really see the problem with the family being there. They all had a part to play), but its not like this had any sort of majorly negative impact on the film imo. Its an above average movie I would say. I quite enjoy it.

      WW had a lot of wasted screen time, and the end act with Aries was very poorly done. As was using WW1 Germans and portraying them as nazis for all intents and purposes.
      Shazam didn't have any problems like that.

        I think it's a bigger problem to undermine you main character's journey by having 4 other characters do in a minute what took him days/weeks.
        But i guess it's subjective here. We both agree they are in the top 3 DCEU movies probably

        But his journey isn't undermined. His siblings didn't do anything, it was his choice to share the power with them. It was 100% his action and it was 100% a result of his character development.

        No worries man. I wasn't seeing discussing it as a negative thing, wasn't meant to be confrontational. I've just defended Shazam before in many arguments to contrast what it does right with all the mistakes BvS makes, so I'm pretty familiar with it. I hadn't heard anyone say what you are saying before so was interested to discuss it, but if you have no desire to do so I get that 👍

        my bad, then. So what I mean that is undermined is his process of assuming and understanding his powers. The whole movie is about that and his siblings just know how to handle their power instantly.

        All good my man.
        So, to address what you said, as soon as they get the powers, they still seem to be figuring them out (the girl is getting used to her speed, the guy that shoots electric keeps doing so by accident, one guy blocks an attack using strength he wasn't aware he had, etc), and they are left fighting the sins which take the place of goons. Billy is the only one really fighting Sivanna and using his powers with more confidence.
        So I'd say the siblings are pretty much at the same level Billy was at the start.

        I remember how half a year before Wonder Woman got released (just when they about started to promote the movie), I took a huge issue with the Germans ostensibly being portrayed as the bad guys. I hate historical revisionism, and this would definitely be a gross lie. Everyone was a bad guy in WWI.
        However, the movie did a better job than I feared, as it established pretty early on that it was not really Germany, but the one radical remnant of its army that wanted to go on and commit war crimes. It also reinforced that notion at the very end, when Ludendorf's soldiers decided they had enough.

  It was awful, one of the worst superhero movies (and i gonna get downvoted but nobody is gonna say why, because they know they are wrong).
  And that inconsistency is one of the biggest problems, it should have been written like Billy/Shazam it was the same character in a kid and adult body, not as two different characters, not to mention how miscast the guy playing Shazam was.

    - You don't define the inconsistency you mention, you reference it without first having defined it
    - You don't elaborate on your only two points, that a it seemed like two different characters and Levi was miscast.

I think they tell this news to the actors so they dont jump off a bridge as nobody from that first film is going to see other work. Fact is the film was average at best and to this day im still confused with the end of that film... Why go the comic book route and give away most of his powers to new characters we only see for 5 mins? It didnt work. I dont want to see those kids as heroes. I dont want to see those kids at all.

Hey Dwayne Johnson,
