Brec Bassinger shares a new photo in Stargirl's costume

Filming is ongoing for the Stargirl series coming to DC Universe. During shooting last week, the Brec Bassinger - Stargirl herself - had a birthday and turned 20-years-old. She took to Instagram to share a photo of a cake someone on set gave her, but she also happened to be in costume.

We've seen the Stargirl costume a few times now, mainly courtesy of Bassinger, but this is probably the best lighting we've seen it in so far. It appears it is staying pretty faithful to the comics, which we're always for.

The cast of Stargirl is going to be massive it seems. Luke Wilson grabbed the role of Pat Dugan, aka Stripe, while other casting announcements have included Joel McHale as Starman, Brian Stapf will be suiting up as Wildcat, and Lou Ferrigno Jr. is Hourman. Even the Injustice Society is getting in on the series as well. And Courtney will be getting some friends and family Meg DeLacy as Cindy Burman and Jake Austin Walker in an unknown role, and Amy Smart was announced as Courtney's mom, Barbara.

Stargirl has yet to receive an official premiere date, but a report in Dec. 2018, which has proven accurate on other facts, stated that it would debut some time in Aug. 2019.

someone hasn’t read comics since before the New 52. Only thing Johns has written that was good since 2011 is Doomsday Clock. Everything else he has touched since then was between meh and crap.

      No, it’s based on reports + his, as I recall, actually saying he had a big part of JL before it was released, or implying so when DC Films was announced and he was in charge and talking about how excited they were for their new direction, just before JL’s release. If I remember right.
      Once again, he’s written good comics, certainly, but please take a look at his track record with movies and TV shows; it’s worryingly hit-or-miss (JL and GL being prime examples, both of which he was very involved in)

      Hit or miss, like I said. And if it's true JL was "his baby," perhaps even rewriting much of the script himself according to some reports, then that’s definitely quite a big miss. Which makes sense of why he conveniently stepped down from his leadership role at DC Films as soon as JL failed. Seems pretty clear to me WB immediately lost faith in him and encouraged him to get involved in less leader-ly ways to me.

It’s exactly as I described - Geoff Johns (with Jon Berg) was WB’s hand in forcing their agenda into JL.       I'm not claiming to know how much narrative control he had; all I'm saying is from what we *know* and from the large number of things we don't quite as definitively "know," it seems fair to say Geoff Johns was the representative or at least "enforcer" of WB's will on JL. He claims as much. And that enforcement would have been directed onto first Zack Snyder and Chris Terrio and then onto or *through* Joss Whedon, once he took the project over. So *maybe* his involvement was indirect, and you could argue that it *might* have been only doing what his WB higher-ups wanted, but neither of those interpretations of what we *know* are even enough to completely remove him of guilt if you ask me, and that's all I'm saying at this point. All that coupled with the other questionable things he's been involved with seem to me to prove that we must not be quite so confident in his ability outside of the comic book medium at this point; there's too much baggage and questions to have blind faith in him at this point. Now that also means that the OP I also disagree with, technically; I don't think we can necessarily throw him out altogether, either. I just say be wary, and don't implicitly trust him.
      And I am sorry if I did the exact same, by the way; I might get caught up in arguments and write pretty clinically, but I assure you that I rarely hold any hard feelings for most anyone here, and I certainly hold none for you. Have a good day.

    Geoff Johns was much more involved with JL than the previous movies, as part of WB’s effort to “course correct” after BvS. He definitely had a large hand in how it ended up being. I see WB as the main villains of the JL production, while Johns was their enforcer, and Whedon their pawn.

There's a difference between Johns on comics and on TV/Movies. I do agree that Johns is bad when it comes to TV/Movies, his comics were good. He brought back Aquaman to life with the New52. I haven't dare read the Watchmen crossovers yet, because the idea of bringing Watchmen Universe to the JL on is stupid af and there's no way there are no plot holes to make it work. I would've liked movies from the MCU if plot holes weren't an issue. But I love consistency in storytelling. And its grittiness and darkness he brought on Aquaman. Now I've read these when they came out, so I don't remember them to details, but I remember loving it.

    Marvel has copied way more than DC, from what I understand. Only one I can think of off the top of my head that DC got from Marvel was Aquaman from Namor. Marvel’s list is much longer.

      Black Lighting (Electro), Killer Crock (Lizard), Lobo (Wolverine), Bumblebee (Wasp), Killerfrost (Iceman), Swamp Thing (Man Thing), the freaking Black Spider (Spiderman), Raven (Phoenix), Enchantress (Enchantress) , Bane (Cross Bones) and others that did not survive over time (at least not in the best way).
      Aside from the previous ones, DC main characters are not that original as you may think.

Probably just the name from the villain of Whiz and the symbol in the chest and the web shooter dynamic from Tarantula... but a rumored inspiration is that it came from a Halloween costume designed by a dude called Bren Cooper in 1954 that used to have the name Spiderman on the mask, a spider symbol in the chest and a spiderweb design all around the suit... but a clearer inspiration is the Spider Queen in 1941 too, she was a vigilante that create some kind of web shooters. Anyway Black Spider has way more similarities with Spiderman than Spiderman with those characters... way more.

      No it’s not debatable, Spider-Man is a rip off of mainly whiz comics Spider-Man, it even has that name in it. The resembles is everywhere. Climbing, whips, spider nets, spider chemicals and ropes. The only thing is that, majority of people don’t know anything about him at all. So they wouldn’t have known. Tarantula is basically Spider Queen but with a spider looking suit, equipment and armor. So I don’t think there is as much resemblance as Spider-Man of whiz comics.

      You don't see it but still there. Both has evil powerful entities inside of them. Batman and Moon Knight are different in motivations, modus operandi, origin, etc. but the second one is still being called a Batman rip off by the DCNazis... so, regardless of those differences (powers and origin) and using the DC fanboy judgement, Raven still being a "phoenix" Jean rip off.
      Swamp Thing and Man Thing thing yea... nobody cares but the creators could be lovers and still one came first than the other. One is the original and the other isn't.

      You make no sense. Raven and Phoenix are nothing alike. Different entities. Obviously Moon Knight and Batman are going to be fairly different, since DC can easily take a legal action. But the similarities are so obvious and even the creators admit that it’s their version of Batman.

      Sure, a couple of those seem to be a bit of a stretch, but I believe the same could be said with your list. In the end, there's copying on both sides, but I still think it seems Marvel is definitely guilty of more of it than DC.

      In my list there are more than just some sort of likeness... even the powers are very similar if not the same in some cases. I still think that both has been doing it in more or less the same , the thing is that DC came out first and that's why the copy is more visible when it's to them than from them.

      You'll have to forgive me because I haven't read a comic in a while and am not nearly as knowledgeable about Marvel as I am about DC, but Bane and Crossbones - because both have black and white? Electro and Black Lightning are only alike in that they have electricity powers, and that's a pretty common power idea throughout fantasy and sci-fi. How Phoenix and Raven? Are Spider-Man and Black Spider very much alike as characters beyond some visuals? And I'm not so sure about Lobo and Wolverine, either; he's only like Wolverine in that that's the type of character he is a parody of, among others.
      Maybe it's "more visible" because it's more prevalent :P
      Marvel came later, so they had to respond to DC's success a lot, including ripping characters and ideas from them, like that of a superhero team. DC did it, too, but I just think it's a bit less due to the differing age and success of the companies.

      Don't worry, I'm kind in the same situation... I just read some that I feel that I'm going to love or at least not hate (DKR, Spiderman Blue, The Kingdom Come, Superman Red Son, Oldman Logan, Civil War arc, Spiderverse, Batman Year One,..) or for investigation matters (Tangent Comics: The Superman, Invincible Iron man, some of Final Crisis, some of Forever Evil arc...) but I'm not that geeky as I would like.

      Electro and Black Lightning is the same issue that exist with Batman and any other noctural or billionaire vigilante... is a pretty common thing.
      I should clarify that I wasn't talking about the Dark Phoenix entity itself, I was talking about it when it posses Jean Grey... the dynamic is similar to that of Raven and Trigon (evil entities inside of them).
      The Black Spider thing yep... there are some similarities in some of his representations ... he even has some sort of web shooter in his wrist and very similar superhero poses.
      And yes, the Lobo/Wolverine is similar to the DeadpooL/Deathstroke... the second one was more kind of shameless but the intentions were kind of the same.
      And well, using your judgement against you, then Moon Knight is Batman rip off just because he's a nocturnal vigilante? With Hulk they copied to Grundy because both are muscular and gray? (Hulk was gray in his first appearance) that is not true, Hulk is based on the Jekyll/Mr. Hyde dynamic but any way.

      Those are some good reads!
      So Bane and Crossbones share some vague visual resemblance (I guess a skull mask can sort of look like a luchador mask sometimes). Not sure that’s solid enough. I guess in a way Dark Pheonix and Raven are similar...? An evil entity empowering and possessing a female character however doesn’t come from the Phoenix character; that’s a trope throughout fiction and probably stems from old ideas of witchcraft. And again, Black Spider and Spider-Man just sometimes share some very vague visual similarity. That’s not particularly strong. Though webs is closer, for sure.
      As for Lobo, I wouldn’t say it’s the same situation as Deadpool/Deathstroke. Deadpool was literally created from Deathstroke - they took his almost exact name, look, profession, weapons and just made their own character out of it. Lobo, on the other hand, is a very uniquely designed character with his own personality and motivations; it’s merely his general vibe/attitude that is sort of a parody of “edgy” characters like Wolverine, Cable, etc. That’s not the same at all. Plus, some would even say that Wolverine himself was a rip off of DC’s Timber Wolf, so there’s that, too.
      I agree with Hulk and Grundy. That seems like a stretch to me, as well. They’re extremely different. But Moon Knight is totally a rip-off of Batman - a wealthy, non-superpowered, cape-wearing, nocturnal vigilante who uses gadgets (such as moon-shaped projectiles and a mooncopter as opposed to Batman’s batarangs and batcopter) and martial arts to fight crime, with a cave base under his mansion and a loyal butler. No way could ALL of that just happen to be a coincidence.
      So, taking all of that into consideration, plus all the other things Marvel may have or definitely did rip off, like Bullseye from Deadshot (iffy perhaps, but a lot of people make the comparison), the Fantastic Four / Avengers from Justice League, the X-Men from Doom Patrol, etc., and I think it’s pretty conclusive that Marvel’s a bit more guilty of it than DC.

That would make sense looking at if they are adapting Wonder Woman golden eagle suit. It could be of them introducing them and the suit to her for her to be able to fly.

      Hey, I'm fine with Wonder Woman not flying, even if it is one of her powers in the comic books and animation. I wish she didn't have super speed either. Fast reflexes, sure, but not super speed. I don't like Superman rivaling the Flash either. I know her powers don't actually work like Superman's. Her powers are gifts from gods and she sort of taps into them instead of having them permanently.

      Yeah her flying was a post crisis thing, i actually want her flying personally and i hope WW84 has her doing just that. I agree about super speed that's something she shouldn't have although reflexes should be that of a Speedster (hence how she can block bullets). As for Superman well super speed has always been a thing for him, its been a thing longer then him having flight hence the "faster then a locomotive", i'm fine with him being near or matching Barry but he should never be faster then him as like Barry says "those were for charity Clark", i feel that was a problem with JL as they dumbed down Barry's speed to make Supes look cool, the eye turn was epic (best moment of the film) but by the final battle Barry should have been unleashed and shown to be faster.

    They may keep the role secret but she's a huge actress so if she was in it i suspect she would have been announced already. Pedro Pascal's role is still unknown but we still know he's in it. Fact is other then that image you posted there is zero stuff saying the Hawk's are in it and that a huge actress in Vikander has been cast.

You know, they keep adding these various JSA characters to this show but what would be really cool if happened is if this character appeared on the show, even for a cameo. (you know, he WAS the one who gave her the staff)

  Different Starman aka Star-Spangled Kid, McHale is playing Sylvester Pemberton, who had the original cosmic Belt Courtney found and got her original powers from. (both Belt and Staff were built by the original Starman, Ted Knight)
  He was also the one Courtney's step-dad was side-kick to.

    I read somewhere that McHale's Starman is a composite character, meaning he might just take the roles of her various different mentors.
    But yeah, after I typed that comment I looked up the history of Starman and found what you're talking about.

I believe this plays a big part in how angry and bitter some get when they don't get an exact translation. Staying faithful to the books is not always the best option for film or television. It works sometimes, of course; but, the motion picture medium sometimes requires a much different approach than illustrated pages.

But, I'll add that I don't feel that applies to Batman. Particularly from a character standpoint. They could do an exact translation of the character and yet there's always been some kind of tweak, even if it's minor. Thankfully, most of Bats films are still enjoyable.
Still waiting for the definitive Batman film and hoping Reeves brings it home with his noir-detective themed vision. But he better cast Bats right. The rumors for me are disturbing.

  I’m reeeeally hoping for a noir style too. Batman needs a movie in that genre. Since he doesn’t have superpowers to CGI, he’s perfect for a noir thriller heavy on the practical effects. Nolan was heading in the right direction, but I think it can be done better.
  And don’t underestimate disturbing casting. They sometimes surprise us. :-)

    This is true. I have certainly been pleasantly surprised before. But for me, Pattinson isn't going to be that guy. There's just no Bruce in that face. For me it's Zane Holtz. Holtz is the total package in my book and him not being so popular makes him a great unknown to have a big moment. I'm actually trying to put him on Reeves radar, but just awaiting new updates on the casting confirmations to see how it all turns out.

She's a cutie. I gotta throw it back though to Smallville and say that I really loved the actress that was Stargirl back then. Don't remember her name but she had a presence and old school feel that came right out of the comic book. Hawkman was great too back then. Anyone watching some form of DCTV should go treat yourself to all 10 seasons of Smallville. Although admittedly, seasons 8 and 9 were generally brutal for specific reasons. Just know that going in.
