Idris Elba's character in The Suicide Squad gets some new clues

A new report may give us a bit more of an idea as to who exactly Idris Elba is playing in The Suicide Squad.

According to a report from The Geeks WorldWide, James Gunn may not be as done with casting as he recently said. It seems that right now he is looking for someone to play 'Drew.' The character is described as a teenage thief who has had minimal contact with her father, who has been in prison. This is said to be the daughter of Idris Elba's character, and that he has been in prison for murder.

The report goes on to theorize about who Elba could be playing, and the most notorious DC murders with daughters come down to Sportsmaster and Deathstroke. Deathstroke has already been established in the DCEU thanks to Joe Manganiello in Justice League. That isn't to say that an actor change couldn't happen, but it seems unlikely.

There is also a chance that this is a daughter/father combo we aren't aware of. Gunn is already swapping genders on Ratcatcher, so he could easily give someone a daughter that doesn't have one in the comics.

Hopefully Gunn will start announcing cast soon, but we're still putting our money on some information being held back for San Diego Comic-Con.

As it stands right now, David Dastmalchian is confirmed as Polka-Dot Man, and Daniela Melchior is rumored for a genderwapped Ratcatcher.

As for returning cast from 2016's Suicide Squad include Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and possibly Joel Kinnaman as Flagg.

The Suicide Squad is due to hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.

Hmmm. Sounds like a last second rewrite when they realized Will Smith’s schedule was full... Hoping for Black Spider or Beonze Tiger, but you never know with Gunn. I also heard Tom Hardy is in it, but no one else has said anything of the sort. It seems pretty full already.

  admittedly i find myself rather biased when it comes to these things. Normally I would agree that they shouldn't racebend characters, but sometimes it just depends on the character as well as the actor involved.

      Yep. That plus all the research he’s done and his overall geek cred is enough for me. He’s earned it. Plus he not only looks like the character, he looks perfect for him. Why go from that to someone who’s not even the right race? Deadshot I’m fine with, but why does every single DC assassin need to be black now, lol?

LAME! So just to recap. He was supposed to play Deadshot, and now he isn't. 100% of DC fans want him to play Bronze Tiger, a diverse character, who can potentially become a really popular mainstream character for DC. I'm glad to see King Shark be confirmed, but there's something about this roster, that feels very lazy and uninspired. James Gunn being back with Disney/Marvel, doesn't make me feel great either. Lol at those conspiracy theories.You need to remember that Gunn would have left if he wanted too after Disney gave him Gotg 3 but he didn't.He realizes that when Gotg 3 is over, He would need another studio and wb is the best choice he have seeing as they gave him a big job in his bad time.Not to mention, WB clearly wants him.

      Yeah, no. There's about as much pent-up demand as there was for the Sinestro Corps from the end of Green Lantern or the Leader at the end of Incredible Hulk. IE: Other sequel tags from flopped movies that never went anywhere.

      They don’t have exclusive rights to make solo Hulk movies, so it’s not entirely their fault, and Kevin Feige himself said about the issue “And you would be surprised how many… it’s come up. It’s come up. Just finding the right place. And as I said, if you can’t do it right, don’t do it or do it later, and the notion of, ‘Hey, I’m here too! Next!’ is not interesting to us. Abomination is in a prison somewhere too.” And again, WB ADDED THAT LINE (or changed it) WITH THE STUDIO-ENFORCED RESHOOTS. So this is very specifically their desire, as opposed to any directors’.

      Doesn't mean nothing. If the Hulk movie had been successful, they would've made sequels and continued that plotline. It wasn't, so they didn't. Just like another certain superhero movie we were discussing...

      It does mean something. It means it takes more for them to make one than not to, especially considering they can freely put him in team-up movies without having to lose a dime, and have successfully done so for years now. Whereas WB owns all the rights, so it’s much easier for them. The problem with that team-up method, though, is that it’s harder to justify putting that specific character in the movies they’re trying to make, but even so, as we learn from that quite, they actually have actively been trying to include him in some way in something for quite a while now!
      I’m actually not convinced. There seems to be an air of JL being released without much confidence in it to me, to be honest. Either way, though, that tease seems to exist as their best plan moving forward to what could be a successful franchise. And, once again, do you honestly think they’re not ever gonna make another JL? I find that highly unlikely, and since they’ve already set up what that JL2 would be about with that tease, I don’t see how we wouldn’t be getting a follow up on it.

They’ve already got 5 movies solidly lined up to continue the DCEU with for the next few years, with plans for even more. There does not seem to be any indication of their wanting to end this current DCEU as it is at all.

They should just let him play Deadshot because i doubt will smith will return for a third film since he didn't return to this one and he hardly do sequels plus idris is an amazing actor and would probably do a better job than Smith, Will made a decent job playing the character but he only did it once and he didn't own the performance like Ledger or Gadot, he is not irreplaceable besides Elba is younger and probably cheaper than Will Smith.

Those two along with a possible Hancock sequel are the only franchises in which he is interested in reprising his roles, he said in a interview that he is not a sequel kind of a guy and even refusing to appear in the sequel of Independence day despite being one of his most famous roles, after Suicide Squad tanked with the critics i inmediatly thought that he wasn't going to return to the sequel and sadly i was right.
