A new report is out that Idris Elba is in talks to take over the role of Deadshot in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad.
Will Smith recently exited the role of Deadshot, and rumors have been running rampant of who might take over the role of the hitman. Talk then turned to who might replace him in the role, but no names were coming up immediately.
According to the report from The Hollywood Reporter, the deal for Elba to take over is on the fast track. Reportedly he met with Gunn on Friday and talks with the studio almost immediately moved forward. He is said to have been the only choice both Gunn and Warner Bros. were interested in.
While Elba has played a host of other roles, in the world of comic book roles he is best known as Heimdall from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the guardian of the Rainbow Bridge of Asgard.
Gunn is reportedly looking to change up who appears in The Suicide Squad with the exception of Margot Robbie returning as Harley Quinn and Deadshot. If a deal can't be worked out with Elba, there's no indication who else might be considered, or if Gunn would drop the character. Reports do contradict on the inclusion of Rick Flagg in the sequel, and a new rumor has surfaced that Viola Davis may return as Amanda Waller.
The Suicide Squad is slated to hit theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.
