Henry Cavill is striking back at the DC Films rumor mill with an adamant denial of claims he’s been holding up Superman negotiations with major demands. Cavill’s representatives tell Collider that there is “no truth” to rumors the actor is demanding director/script approval and a producer credit from Warner Bros. on Man of Steel 2.
The freshly-denied rumors picked up steam yesterday in an article over at Revenge of the Fans. The site referred to Cavill’s demands as the one big hurdle holding up a potential deal between Cavill and the studio. Cavill’s team says that claim is “patently inaccurate.”
Cavill’s status as Superman remains unclear. There has been no official statement from the actor or the studio saying that he isn’t Superman anymore. When The Hollywood Reporter ran a story about Cavill and WB parting ways last September, both sides denied that any decision had been made. Warner Bros. released an official statement that cast some doubt on THR’s story
“While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we’ve always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged.”
Of course, having a great relationship with Cavill isn’t the same as saying “he’s still our Superman.” Reports of Ben Affleck leaving the role of Batman were denied and danced around for a year and a half before the news of his departure finally became official last week.
Henry Cavill may only still be Superman as much as Ben Affleck was still Batman a week ago. Only time and official announcements will tell.
