Henry Cavill reportedly wanted script and director approval for Man of Steel 2

UPDATE: Cavill's reps now deny this report and have issued a statement. Original article follows.

A new rumor has surfaced that may explain why Man of Steel 2 has still not been made, let alone heavily discussed.

As many people may remember, in Sept. 2018, rumors began to circulate that Henry Cavill was out of playing Superman. This seems to have stemmed from a meeting he had with Warner Bros. on Sept. 11, 2018 where he and his management said he wanted a producer credit on Man of Steel 2 as well as script and director approval. According to the new rumor, this is not only where the Shazam! cameo supposedly fell apart, but Cavill's further involvement in the DCEU was at an end as well.

After the story made its way to the public, Warner Bros. came out with an official statement saying that Cavill's role in the DCEU was unchanged. This was followed by his management adding the cape was still in the closet. And topping off the whole saga was the very 'interesting' Instagram post from Cavill that seemed to confirm he was still Superman.

Since that time, everything has been quiet in regards to Cavill, even through the announcement that Ben Affleck had left the role of Batman. That was, until this past weekend when Cavill finally posted something Superman related on his Instagram for the first time in months.

The question becomes if this was some sort of confirmation that he is still in the role, or something else.

At this stage, with all of the changes happening in the DCEU, our suggestion is you take everything with a grain of salt until you see someone in costume and filming. Even then, you may want to not fully believe it until you're sitting in a theater and watching it.

So far as we know right now, Superman isn't slated for an appearance in any of the upcoming DC films, so we may be waiting a while before we find out.

I don't think Henry would go as far as director approval.
The most I could see is script approval, I do not think
he gives a damn about any producer credit either.

  I think he wanted too much money. Cavill has the same manager as The Rock, and The Rock gets perks like this. The difference? He’s earned them. Cavill isn’t in any position to be making demands.

    Cavill did not have big paydays relatively as Superman and
    he may feel is is owed and wants to cash in to make up for that.
    You are right again too, he cannot expect blockbuster actor
    dollars since he has not delivered on a blockbuster and
    proven his name alone will put people in the seats.

You realize they have lots of reason to deny if true? Nobody wants a reputation of being difficult. Sure they may be telling the truth but it is impossible to believe they would admit to such tactics so seems a bit iffy to me.

I really don't think he made all these demands, but even if he did... who can honestly blame the man for making them?!?!?! After what Snyder turned his character into? He obviously wants to step as far away from that "version" of Superman as humanly possible! -he doesn't want to be forced to work with a guy whose "original take" on a beloved character that has been around for more than 80 years is: "hey! let's make him a murderer, let's make him frown all the time and don't give a shit about millions o people being killed while he destroys a city"

I don't disagree, but I don't have an issue with Snyder's version. He gave us a real life look at how this world would react to a Superman. Unfortunately, he was 100% right, and that seems to be the issue for people.

  that's exactly why they're comic books characters. They don't "work" in real life. Do you know how people would react to Batman if he really existed? As soon as people knwo there was someone dressed in a costume taking justice into his own hands and beating random people half to death, people would march in the streets with signs asking governors and congressmen to stop vigilantism! The police force would not stop until they caught the guy. I guarantee you there wouldn't be a big bat sign on the top of ANY building... much less a police HQ. Sure, he would have a very big fanbase (even sociopaths like Bundy or Manson had their own... because people can be quite stupid sometimes), and also lots of people protesting in his favor. But in a civilized society, you just can't have a random guy bending the law and making whatever he thinks is right. Now imagine if Robin existed, and Batman not just beat people, but did so with the help of a 12 year old!!!!! The social implications of that would fill entire pages. Nolan tried a "realistic" approach at the character, but even he knew that certain things must remain "comic-booky" if they are to work. And we're talking about the most "realistic" character in the roster!

    This isn't true at all and TDK trilogy is a perfect example of that, there's virtually nothing comic-booky at all about that series, it's an epic crime drama and TDK is arguably the best comic book movie of all time.

      uh-huh... maybe just liiiitle unimportant, almost insignificant things, like the fact that he had the police commisioner working with him, while actively diverting the police efforts against the Batman; or maybe just that big-ass bat signal which just happened to tell the whole city (and the rest of the goddamn world): "hey! looky looky here! we here in Gotham PD are a bunch of incompetents who need a guy in costume to do our jobs for us! You know the mayor? He also approves of this! Oh, and we're also sooooo stupid that eventough all his "toys" are obvioulsy military equipment, we haven't had the time or the interest to start investigating where they come from. Oh! and I almost forgot: we constantly allow him to tamper with crime scenes (we call him there, actually... yes, WE, as in us police officers, and have had countless times to just arrest him, because, you know, assault is after all a crime, but we choose to do nothing because... reasons. Oh, yeah... and we're actually so stupid that we allow just about anyone (you know, DAs and stuff) to go and turn on the signal whenever they want. No questions asked. That's us! The noble GCPD!"

      Ok, so Snyder's depiction of the life of an alien that lands on Earth and becomes a superhero who can fly, has super strength, impenetrable, laser vision, etc. and the world's reaction to learning of his exist (not to mention the attack by Zod and his army, resurrection of his body to become a version of Doomsday, Luthor's development and successful execution of his master plan, introduction of Wonder Woman/Themyscira, Aquaman/Atlantis, the Flash and Cyborg, invasion of Steppenwolf, oh and a version of Batman with as many if not more comic book qualities/characteristics/narrative elements than that of the TDK) is LESS comic booky and more realistic than TDK?? Lol come on dude

      you missed the whole point of the argument. By "comic booky" I wasn't referring to a character's ability to fly or shoot lightning out of his ass... but by the way people in that same world react to him. The comic booky part about Batman (and Nolan's trilogy) is the fact that police high figures (even the mayor) actually encourage his behavior and let him do their work for them... even going so far as to actually put up a damn batsignal! Without this fact, Batman could not work in real life, powers or not. If Nolan's trilogy had been "100% realistic", the police would have been behind Batman's ass since day one, they would have investigated every enterprise capable of creating his "toys", and if they couldn't get him, the Mayor would have even called in for the national guard or some shit like that, because in real life YOU JUST CAN'T HAVE SOME RANDOM GUY DRESSED IN A COSTUME BEATING PEOPLE INTO PULP JUST BECAUSE HE THINKS IT'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO. That's the comic booky part. And Nolan had to extrapolate that into his films in order for them to work.

    true. Pretty much agree. That's why I like the dynamic of a few several GCPD officers, including the commissioner, having a relationship with the Bat. The rest of GCPD are out to arrest him when they see him.
    But, correct me if I'm wrong, isn't the Justice League sanctioned by NATO? If not, then, I always look at it like this, the Justice League is like a private security firm allowed to legally operate in the United States. Perhaps cities pay heroes to protect their cities. Or maybe, because the legal status of the Justice League, cities openly allow superheroes to roam around their cities without law enforcement trying to take them down. & the Justice League as a private company pays for itself (& any collateral damage plus interest). Know what i mean?

  How is a Superman who barely talks, barely smiles, barely connects to the people he saves and is cold and uncaring more human than Reeve's Superman, who was charming, likeable and actually cared about people?
  Snyder gave us the most alien Superman of all. To him, showing Superman hovering like a god was more important than showing him coming down and talking to people.

      Who are we kidding... if they made a "Man of Steel 2" right now, it would be like Thor Ragnarok. The ones REALLY wanting a Man of Steel 2 are the ones jerking off to the deleted scene of him in the ship (with the vaginas behind him) looking at the black suit, thinking they're gonna follow the look and tone of Snyder.

    IF anything you can make the case that Zack made him more human or did you not see that half the world and the govt kept going against him and questioning if they needed him around and wanted to regulate his actions, And it showed Superman question himself and his place in this world and it showed all the self doubt he had to deal with that no regular man could probably handle , but I guess you wanted him to save a cat out of a tree to appease your limited imagination...

    Snyder made him more human by actually showing him go through the struggles of being the Superman, struggles way more interesting and worth talking about than just saving a cat out of a tree. He actually showed the difficulties of having to choose between his original people or those that adopted him, having to be a god to some a demon to others a Kryptonian and human and struggling to find his identity, determining his place in the world, being misunderstood, having to save people, accepting who he can save and can't, learning the true sacrifice it takes to be Superman, etc. Christopher Reeves is fun and great for his time, don't get me wrong, but he's surface level compared to what Snyder was delving into.

      Most if not all heros have struggles. Batman, WW, Aquaman, etc. Even Reeve's Superman had his struggles, having to choose a normal life with Lois or saving the world.

      Not really. Zod's offer was not appealing in the least. It was just to destroy everything and kill everyone without any benefit to Clark. In fact Kryptonians treated him as a prisoner from the start. There was no hard choice to make.

Thing is she's earned it, her Harley was mega popular and was the big reason SS was so big, she's also a highly in demand actually great actress, she's proven to be a capable person away from camera by producing films what get Oscar buzz and awards and audiences love her. Basically Margot can make whatever she wants and demand anything she wants because she has a ton of power now and sway.

After 3 bad movies, I don’t blame Cavill for making such demands, even if his reps are denying it. This would be his 4th time in the role. Chris Reeve had creative control on Superman IV. And Cavill is landing other roles. He doesn’t need Superman, which gives him a lot of leverage.

  Plus lead role in Man From Uncle. Might not qualify as big star, but it shows that he's not struggling for work and therefore doesn't need the paycheck of Superman. Compare his post-Superman career to that of other former Superman actors. He's doing better than Chris Reeve (before his accident), Dean Cain, Brandon Routh, and Tom Welling.
