on 'Swamp Thing' adds 'Total Recall' director Len Wiseman for episode one

Titans is set to debut next month, Doom Patrol is filming right now, and it looks like Swamp Thing will be the next live-action to go into production for DC Universe.

Deadline is reporting that Total Recall (2012) director Len Wiseman will direct episode one of Swamp Thing, as well as executive produce the series. Wiseman is coming over to Warner Bros. from Fox, where he executive produced The Gifted and Sleepy Hollow, which he also co-created.

Aquaman director James Wan’s production company, Atomic Monster, is making Swamp Thing along with Warner Bros. Wan will also serve as an executive producer. Here's the official synopsis for the show:

When CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.

Swamp Thing doesn't have a release date, but will probably premiere sometime in 2019.

Off topic but Cavill has been cast as Geralt in The Witcher Netflix show, as a massive fan of the games i'm dead excited for the show and i'm glad Cavill has been giving such a big role. I'm aware of the books events and story but have yet to read them but the games are incredible with fantastic stories and characters so i'm really looking forward to seeing it on screen.

I actually side with Oliva here but honestly his ass licking of anything Snyder, Batfleck and DCEU pre-JL really annoys me.

i actually somewhat agree. I think Affleck's story might have been great, but Jay's enthusiasm for the Snyderverse has gotten on my nerves honestly mostly because when people debate him he often just comes off as fairly immature.

Yeah, i am sure that all the "mature" people like the ones in Batman News comment section who have zero arguments and bias against anything Snyder does really showed him how whatever you say is bad is actually bad.

What you and many other people do not understand is that Snyder is not the bad director you want it to be.

I don’t trust a guy that supported Zack Snyder vision and movies so much. He probably thinks or do think BvS is a masterpiece just like Snyder dumb fans.

He "just" made The Dark Knight Returns (Part 1 & 2), Batman: Assault on Arkham, The Flashpoint Paradox and more, literally the best animated DC movies we've ever had, and he's also involved with Marvel stuff; your comment is literally nonsense.

And what does that have to do with his biased opinions on Zack Snyder. It doesn’t.

Yeah, because the trolls here do not do the exact opposite, putting their fingers in their ears and going lalalala Snyder movies suck and calling anybody else who explains to them that is not like that "dumb fans"

I'm interested in how they turn THIS one into a CW-style action\drama series. (Swamp Thing already never wears a shirt)

The whole Swamp Thing/Abby saga from the Alan Moore era was already an intense love story, particularly after the "tubers = sex" motif came in. They can use that and the horror all they want.

        1. Mark Avatar

One thing you should know going into the Alan Moore run, since the TPB doesn't (in my recollection) really set this up. In Len Wein's original concept of Swamp Thing, Alec Holland was a scientist who was shot up by some bad guys and ran into a swamp, where he would have died except comics things happened and he became a swamp creature instead. The emphasis at the time was on his quest to regain his "lost humanity" and become an ordinary human again. That's the context you should have going into "Anatomy Lesson."

Also, the book isn't just good, it's also historic. Alan Moore's Swamp Thing was the first ongoing series to permanently abandon the Comics Code seal, 20+ years before the CCA shut down for good.
