on First look at 'Doom Patrol' costumes as Alan Tudyk is cast as villain Mr. Nobody

Titans will be the first live action show to premiere on DC Universe, but filming is currently underway for the next one: Doom Patrol.

The first photos have surfaced from the Doom Patrol set this past Friday and give us our first look at Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane. You can check them out over at Just Jared.

Meanwhile, Deadline is reporting that Alan Tudyk has been cast as the Doom Patrol villain, Eric Morden... aka Mr. Nobody. Here is his official character description: After exposure to unknown experiments by ex-Nazis in post-war Paraguay, the man formerly known as Eric Morden emerges as a living shadow able to drain the sanity of others as the enigmatic, and totally insane, Mr. Nobody.

Doom Patrol will premiere on DC Universe sometime in 2019. Let me know what you think of the first set photos and new casting info in the comments below.

I'm liking this show because I'm kind of getting The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen vibes from it. I don't care what anyone says. That is one of my favorite comic book movies.

I don't know much about Doom Patrol but from what I researched I think that's Negative Man.

From left: Crazy Jane, Robotman, Elastigirl, Negative Man. No confirmation on who's playing the Chief in the series (as opposed to the backdoor pilot in Titans).

TIL. Mr. Nobody is a comic book character. The background of the character sounds interesting. This series as a whole sounds awesome. I think Crazy Jane is going to be my favorite character in the show. The concept of having multiple personalities with different powers sounds really cool. Kind of like a messed up version of baby Jack from the Incredibles.

Robot Man looks really cool. I love that they seem to be going for a Morrison/Way sorta vibe here.

Everyone else looks like they just walked out of the comics, so great job!

That’s the attraction, I guess. Nobody’s ever seen him as a villain. If he ever played a villain, it’s on something that nobody watched.

        1. caroline farrell Avatar
          caroline farrell

Well, I never saw that. But the Dirk Gently wiki says Alan played a bounty hunter, which isn’t exactly a villain.

You just want it to be a first-time thing for the viewers, and I think we’re good. Alan has either never played a villain, or if he did, he played a villain on something that almost doesn’t really exist because nobody saw it, you know, the tree falling in the forest thing.

            Markreplying to caroline farrell

He was a bounty hunter trying to bring in the protagonists dead or alive, but he was surprisingly good at it so I'm ready to see him in this. If you have Hulu I'd recommend checking the show out (start with S1, don't skip to Tudyk).... it's all connected.

So far, everything on the DC streaming service seems interesting, but not enough to pay for.
We have all the old movies and shows I've seen already, a daily show hosted by someone I'd like to punch in de'face, some original shows that seem about as good as what was on Comic-Con HQ's streaming service (That is now all but shut down), fan chat (which is all over the internet) and some discount stuffs (which will probably be things they just want to get rid of).

And speaking of Comic-Con HQ, that's what this service makes me think of, Comic-Con HQ.
A streaming service that couldn't live up to expectations, had a bit of a boom at launch then people got tired of and cancelled in less than a year.
The daily show should have been on YouTube (that way if the show is good it would survive) and the original content should have been on a service that's already established and known.

Again, I'm interested, but not enough to pay when I already have Netflix, Amazon Prime and DirecTV Now to sort through. Let alone the $75 or $80 for a year of something I don't have a ton of faith in.

    1. Kerk Lastnameless Avatar

Yeah, I have a hard time believing that this thing will survive for long. Especially with the Disney streaming service on the horizon.

      1. Half life 3 confirmed Avatar

There's no way the DC streaming service ever had a chance to compete with a Disney streaming service or other services out there like Netflix. Now that Disney is buying Fox their streaming service will be even more enticing. Which I'm looking forward to. I hope we get the Treasure Planet sequel in their streaming service. One of my favorite Disney movies.

I'm supporting the DC streaming service but I believe it's future is better with an all WB content streaming service. They also need to use AT&T money to buy more companies if they want to compete with Disney. That also goes for everyone else out there that wants a streaming service with a lot of content.

        1. ShatteredWorld Avatar
          ShatteredWorld

I don't think they're really trying to compete with Disney though. The way Jim Lee puts it, its just an app for major DC fans and people that are just getting into DC.

          1. Half life 3 confirmed Avatar
Half life 3 confirmedreplying to ShatteredWorld

I don't see how they can make a big enough profit though. With all the shows they are producing on the service, I imagine they need a good chunk of money to support it.

        2. Mark Avatar
          Mark

They actually do have a WB-specific streaming service, more or less: FilmStruck. I'm not sure how well it's doing, but it's the only place you can stream Casablanca.

          1. Half life 3 confirmed Avatar
Half life 3 confirmedreplying to Mark

I never heard about it. I looked it up but it just has listings for classic movies. What I meant for a WB streaming service is including their top properties to attract more people to subscribe. Like cartoons from the Hanna Barbera Universe, Looney Tunes, and Harry Potter movies. I hope the DCU service succeeds but I think their shows would be a lot more successful if they made a deal with Netflix. Netflix already has a huge audience. It's also pretty much because of Netflix why we are even getting a season 3 of Young Justice.

Why do you want to punch Tiffany Smith in the face? She's the one hoating DC Daily, not Kevin Smith (who I could see some people wanting to punch in the face at times).
