Rumor: Dick Grayson will ditch Robin and become Nightwing on 'Titans'

Brenton Thwaites will play Dick Grayson in Titans, which hits the upcoming digital service "DC Universe" later this year. So far in all of the marketing, including last month's first trailer, we've seen him in his Robin costume. But according to a new rumor, we may be seeing another one of his famous personas.

SuperBroMovies is reporting that while Dick Grayson will be Robin for most of Titans, he will take on the role of Nightwing before Season 1 ends. In the comics, Grayson takes on the identity of Nightwing to assert his independence, and as we saw in the Titans trailer ("f*ck Batman"), Grayson's relationship with Batman is strained... to say the least.

  I'm more expecting it to be about Dick having a reaction to there being a second Robin, or the idea that he's been sort-of replaced in a way.
  Maybe he observes this new Robin's behavior and has some opinions about it and possibly even how it reflects on himself and his similarities or differences.
  Hell, maybe he tries to impart some guidance with the things he's learned - including some maturing he does during Season 1 itself.

    Hmm, the only reason I think that might not be the case is Jason is pretty old in the show already, I don't think he can be 20 and still be a new robin?

I was hoping and fully expecting this to be the case, especially after the trailer and learning that we’ll be meeting Robin right after his fallout with Batman! I’m pleased that we’ll be seeing Brenton as Robin at first (especially given how amazing that suit is), but I’m glad he’ll be transitioning into Nightwing pretty quickly because: 1) we have yet to see a live-action Nightwing before and 2) Brenton’s age makes him more suited to be playing Dick as Nightwing than as Robin. It seems as though Dick’s arc in S1 will be finding his own way as a hero and putting together his own team, and I think that will be really incredible to see!

    Most likely yeah to see the Batman Animated series the Tim burton movies and the Donner movies and read some comics but honestly I’m not all excited for Titans and the other projects that they have... like I said... I’ll try them out but I’m not all optimistic

  I think they might have released it to the selected beta group. The app is in the Google Play Store if you have the link, but if you've signed up and weren't approved for beta you just get "it's not plugged in yet" after logging in.

Wrong Robin tho. Thats Jason Todd. Dick Grayson would never say edgy shit like "Fuck Batman" and what not. This is something Jason would say. I really don't know why the Robin on Titans isn't Jason considering his dark, edgy and foul-mouthed personality.

Good, this way we get both Robin and Nightwing. And I get it, it’s like you just broke up with Batman, you are pissed at him cause he’s a little insane, smells like bat shit and he keeps letting the Joker live and you’re like WTF dude he’s killed like a million people. You go to a different spot to fight crime on your own, make a name for yourself and everytime you’re about to kick some ass everyone is like “Where’s Batman, is it just you boy wonder” and after a while you start replying “Fuck Batman” and eventually you have to change your suite and name.

I think it’ll be weird to see him as a cop and him NOT be Nightwing. I am assuming he feels so young because he’s still Robin, but they’re changing the age gap so much here. Wasn’t he 16ish when he took off; 18 tops? And he’s already an officer? It feels like pieces are being jammed together.

  I like to think of Grayson being Robin for 5 years. Age 14-19. Parents died when he’s 12. Trains for two years under Batman, Alfred and some of Batman’s mentors.
  There are some cadet cops who still are of College age, plus Grayson would be better than any actual cop, so him being a Doogie Houser type Wonderkin Detective is not too impossible to imagine. But I agree with you, this is a slightly muddled timeline that I’m extra curious to learn about. Hopefully lots of flashbacks to fill in the backstory.

      One can hope. If they do have him, I think they should go with the less is more route. Brief glimpses. For example, if they flashback to Dick training to be Robin, just shots of Batman saying, “Do it better.” a la Robin:Year One graphic novel. Batmanas a stern, low communication type mentor would work best for this iteration.
