First 'Titans' trailer reveals an R-rated TV show for DC Universe

Warner Bros. and DC Comics just released the first trailer for Titans, the first exclusive TV series that will come to their DC Universe digital service later this year.

Right off the bat fans will notice a "TV-MA" warning on the trailer, which is equivalent to R for TV. The trailer features explicit language, adult themes, violence, and is not recommended for people under 18 years old.

And that becomes apparent very quickly. The trailer is very dark and violent, and at one point Robin even yells out "F*ck Batman!".

We now have pricing information for DC Universe as well. Fans can pre-order now for $74.99 for an entire year (and they'll throw in extra months for free). At launch, you'll be able to subscribe on a monthly basis for $7.99.

Did Dick just say "Fuck Batman" and act like Jason ?! I am interested ! Since this is on DC's own streaming service, they have all the creative freedom they need + Mature Content, which I hope they utilize well.( i.e. not fuck up) . Sold on Robin for now but will wait Until I see the show to make judgement on other characters especially this controversial Starfire.
This trailer did have a weird Teenage TV series vibe(which I guess it is) and also unnecessary music.

  Not gonna lie, but I don't think I'm okay with Robin breaking necks and shooting people when he's building a team of better heroes. I love dark and edgy stuff, and I believe it's possible to pull it off without making protagonist killer.
  I'm not against killing, but it varies from character to character. Like, I don't mind Deadpool killing because that's part of his character.

Cannot wait! Had no idea they were going adult for it. Nice break from the CW shows aimed at a young audience. I’d still like to see Wally West and Roy Harper on the team though.

They won’t please everybody, but I’m excited. DC in my opinion is intended to be more adult and mature. I want these stories to be dark and gritty, not fluffy and bubbly.

  Point taken, Raven could be amplifying his more darker self unknowingly. She has been known to have that effect, especially in her younger years in regards to power control. Looks like to me it's a build into his Nightwing persona and once he goes full wing at peace with himself and who he is as a hero, they could write Jason Todd in temporarily. As a mentor of sorts, like in the comics before Jason decided to leave the teen titans while being smug saying fuck you to Dick and ignore Bruce which led to his death. It's great story building if they can manage to pull it off right.

  okay let's get real here. In the story Dick is a cop. As a cop he carries a gun. He's licensed to use it and has the legal authority to use deadly force.
  Also cops are alway cops even if they're not officially on duty.
  So...if you're going to argue that Dick doesn't use guns then you're also arguing against his whole storyline of being a cop.

    Being licensed doesn't mean you don't have to avoid killing. As Robin he was supposed to be trained to fight crime without guns. As a cop it makes sense for him to use them because every cop is expected to; if he never used guns, even when successful in crime fighting, it would make people suspect he was either Batman or someone close to him.

  I get that this is he Dick that’s angry and pushing back. We’re going to see why he left and became Nightwing, which I can dig, but I hate when people don’t get heroes don’t kill. It’s hard to tell if some of that was villain or hero violence, but it’s pretty obvious Robin broke that neck. Seemed like it anyway. I get that not everyone can be saved, but if these guys just kill people, why is the Joker, Penguin, and every other rogue running around? A vigilante takes the law into their own hand, but aren’t sentencing people to death.

      I'm going to give the show a shot as well but not sold on this Dick. All the robins have vastly different personality so why make Dick be like Jason. Just use Jason and do a Red Hood and the Outlaws show which could be way dark instead of making the titans dark

That was 5/5 for me, this is like a dream come true, finally Robin. And I didn’t see anyone complaining about the violence and cursing in all the Marvel Netflix shows (my favorite part of the MCU) if you don’t like it keep watching your children superhero programming on the CW, it’s beyond retarded to be complaining about something that looks this good.

        I don't think his relationship with Batman is as important to show in a trailer as establishing the reason why they get together. We learn nothing about this in the trailer; instead we get a bloodbath, lame cliche lines and some f-bombs, pretty much an amateur effort to convince the audience that it's a good show because it has foul language and gore.

From this trailer I'm concerned about two things. The acting and the action. The acting from Raiven seemed subpar and the action seems a bit off and cheesy. Its only a trailer so Im still hoping for the best, but as of now I'm not that impressed. I like the tone though. It reminds me of Daredevil and Punisher from Netflix

A few things:
- Starfire doesnt shoot plain fire.
- Raven's eyes are supposed to be red when being Trigon-y I think
- Dick doesn't kill and is goody goody
- Beast Boy.. Ok for now. No transformations shown.
- Hawk and Dove should have powers. Disappointing. But costumes look good.

Depending on how much they integrate the comics, that alone could justify the price for me.
As for that trailer, it's pretty fucking bad. Raven, Beast Boy and Starfire basically still looks the same even post production. They are also trying so hard to be edgy. Not a good start in my opinion.

It seems people are complaining becuas ehe isnt green but when you think about it, in a more realistic world, he wouldnt be able to go out in public looking the way he does in the comics, so i am fine with this decision. Also, they put a lot of the edgier stuff in this trailer because its meant to show what kind of show it is.

        Frankly, I can't. All that is required is a good costume designer. But what's more is that this look does not even make sense. It's like stopping half way through. Why is the hair green? Should it be green? If the skin is not green, why should the hair be? I know why -- they did not have enough budget to give him a proper look but they realized that he had to have at least a bit of semblance to the real Beast Boy. And that's what we call "cheap." And cheap is synonymous to bad.

        I am not talking about whether or not they could pull off the look, But rather the actual realism of beast boy being able to function in society looking like an animal person. He wouldnt be able to go out and do stuff normally or hang out with the other Titans like he does in the cartoons. He would just have to stay inside all the time and only go out when needed. This, i believe, is why they decided to just make his hair green instead of making look like he was an actual "beast" boy. This logic is perfectly sound imo

Golden skin, green eyes, red hair, in a dark and gritty show, is a helluva combination to fully commit to.         Again watch it again as it looks like he stabbed him in the shoulder and not the neck. You also letting your view of Nightwing rose tint your view of Robin after he broke up from Batman, he was emotional and he wasn't all ultra friendly and nice like he normally is.

        Yeah that's Nightwing not Robin. Go back to when originally Dick broke up with Batman and he was emotional as fuck and saying "Fuck Batman" is something he would have said if swearing was allowed in comics, many have pointed out this version is something Wolfman would have written. Hell BTAS had a Robin what had a major falling out to the point of hitting Batman, that's pretty much the PG version of saying Fuck Batman.

        If no one is dead after such a bloody episode that even his face is splattered with it, then all the gore is being played for shock value, and I don't know if that's worse than just outright having them die. I mean the guy whose neck he crushed was laying motionless on the ground... They went out of their way to show the blood of the guy he stabbed, splattering and gushing up. Do you really believe there won't be at least one dead after all that?

        Believe it or not you hit someone hard in the face it cut them what causes blood to shoot out, i once got hit in the nose so hard once that blood shot out on to the persons face. By the way stop talking like you have seen the episode because you haven't, you have seen a 2 min trailer and i'm assuming once as many people have pointed out he crushes the jaw and not the neck so hay give it a re-watch. You also clearly have no idea the amount of punishment the body can take before dying , for instance films and TV would have you believe being shot in the gut kills you quickly when actual fact its a slow painful death (see Reservoir Dogs for one of the realistic depictions of it) and film and TV would have you believe being impaled is quick but again its slow and painful. Being stabbed in the shoulder like Robin does to that guy also won't kill you even if blood shoots out.

As i've said its a 2 min trailer what doesn't show much, the supposed neck snap on repeat viewings does look more like Dick breaking a jaw but because its a quick dark shot its hard to tell. I will admit if he is killing in this then yeah i will have my issues but right now we don't know that for sure, yeah the swearing feels a bit forced but anyone who reads comics especially later comics knows swearing is in them but blanked out with symbols, the recent All Star Batman by Scott Snyder had Bats swearing all the time and in Injustice recently we had Bats say to Zod he was going to "Fuck him up" with Fuck being blanked out.

  Happy you're on the hype train too, man. It'll be nice to have someone to be excited with. Like you, I realize that this is in line with Dick from this point in his story, where he and Batman have had a bit of a break-up. I'm excited to see him deal with that, and I think what I liked most about the trailer was that Raven seems like she might wind up helping him with his past while he helps her through her troubles too. Love that.
  So many people, predictably, are over-reacting and misunderstanding what's actually happening in the trailer. Society these days is so ready to be outraged and complain without bothering to really examine what they're complaining about to make sure they're actually right.
  Robin's being accused of shooting people, but he just did what Batman did in BvS: fired missing shots from a goon's gun to force the other goons to scatter and drop so they can't freely just shoot at him while he wrestles one dude. Makes sense, right? Apparently it's too much for them to process or something and they think he's killing them, just like Batman was accused of that in the warehouse fight. lol
  All the BvS complaints are gonna be lobbed at this show. "That's not Robin!" "Trying too hard to be grimdark and edgy!" "People want escapism fantasy from superheroes, not a think-piece!" etc, etc. As if comic book characters have never had artistic variety or explored serious topics in a sober, sometimes gruesome way.
  I'm pleased Aquaman and WW2 are being well received, so we can relax and have fun with the movies again, but we're still gonna have to deal with this half-baked "Burn the witch!" mob culture bullshit about Titans now. :/
  Is this really gonna happen every time DC does something that isn't colorful and friendly? If so, these more grown-up projects may go nearly extinct until the next Zeitgeist. Disappointing...
  Anyway, again, I'm glad you're in. :) Looking forward to chatting about it when the episodes come out.
  Also, Starfire looked incredible here. I was worried as hell from the set photos, but, as I was hoping and trying to remain patient for, they made her look like the character with post-effects. Wish the fire was green, but whatever. haha

    I'm glad you are also excited as well. I think what people are forgetting is Robin is usually seen as Batman's "lame" sidekick by non comic readers, between Batman 66 and Forever/Batman and Robin the character has never really been cool and badass so i can see why they have gone for a more violent and "edgy" take with him. I suspect he will mellow out as the series goes on its just he's clearly in a bad spot after his brake up with Bats.

      Yeah, they understandably want to kick off Robin's live action debut in the modern age by showing the general audience who remember Burt Ward that Robin can actually be taken seriously, and can be written with complexity.
