Warner Bros. interested in hiring James Gunn, who just got fired from Marvel by Disney

As you've probably heard, a few weeks ago James Gunn, director of Marvel's popular Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, was fired by Disney after his old offensive tweets about rape and pedophilia resurfaced.

Since Gunn's firing, many of his co-workers, fans, and even the press have offered their support. According to The Hollywood Reporter, many movie studios are still interested in working with Gunn -- including Warner Bros. "I’d work with him in a heartbeat," said one senior executive at a rival studio.

Earlier this summer, Gunn revealed that he's had talks with Warner Bros. about a DC movie in the past. Since he's now a "free agent", would you like to see Warner Bros. give him another chance at a DC movie? Or do you think his name should be kept far away from anything Warner Bros. or DC? I really don't like him…as a person…at all. I think his work as a director is okay, but as a person, no. Hard pass from me.
Edit: I disliked him as a person before the whole tweet controversy, that just made me dislike him even more.

  I feel the same. Everyone acts like he's a huge loss but I didn't realy know who he was until Guardians. I'd seen Slither and disliked it so I didn't care who directed it. These Marvel movies are really being made by the producers. I'm not saying they don't bring their own sensibilities to the films but the directors have been gifted with these movies. It's not like they couldn't have switched him out with someone else even if there wasn't a controversy. And most people probably wouldn't have been the wiser.
  I'm not interested in seeing any of his future films. It will depend on how much I like the other people involved.

      I know that. These movies are made in committee. Whether they're given specific direction before writing anything or several drafts are made, none of these directors is making their own unique vision. It has to fit within the story Marvel wants to tell.
      He's written two scripts that came to fruition. The new one can be abandoned. When they say they "cut ties" with him, I assume that means the script is no longer in play. Did anyone ever think that maybe they didn't like the script? And the combination of that and the controversy made it easier to get rid of him? That's something I rarely see discussed.

        IF they scrap his script, then they’ll lose Bautista. I highly doubt they didn’t like it. Plus, Gunn was supposed to be leading the next Phase of the MCU.

After what happened I can't say I'm a fan. He's a good filmmaker and WB will probably try to get him, but I'm not really a fan of the idea.

        I liked 2 there were parts that kinda had me like huh? like with pod things, one was on earth but no avenger seems to have noticed or even mention it, that's kinda the only thing that comes to mind at the moment, but I like wacky characters so the whole wacky adventure thing was right up my alley.

      Nah, pretty dumb, the racoon adds nothing, the tree is some disney bullshit, mantis is worthless, Drax could be good but they use it as exclusively comic relief, Gamora is good and Starlord is good when it gets serious otherwise is like a child. Too many forced jokes in Infinity War were because of them, besides they wrote them to be comic relief, is kay to have some characters doing that, but all of them? Seriously? Gotg 2 was pretty bad too, the dad storyline was good but too many dumb jokes.

        Noticed i said near perfect and not perfect. Trevor dies sure but guess what he's back in WW84, Ares has been taking out in worse ways before and as of Rebirth those characters who work with Steve do exist and i own the comic they appear in. As for appearing in WW1 instead of WW2 well come on that was clearly changed to avoid the comparisons to Captain America.

        Yeah but they aren't adapting are they? They are based on the comics and using the comics and trying to stay true to them but they aren't adapting them and will make changes good or bad, adaption is yeah Watchmen or Harry Potter. WW though was true to the comics and stayed really true to the origin of WW, you're using Trevor as an example a bit too much especially when Trevor's role and history in the comics changes all the time, before N52/Rebirth and Post Zero Hour Trevor wasn't even romantically involved with Diana and actually married Etta, at some point in the comics he even died during WWII. Like Diana herself his history and origin is in flux and never constant with only basic things being true like him discovering Paradise Island and leaving with Diana. The film basically took things from various points in her comic history and then used them to make their own version what was still familiar and accurate but slightly different like it being WWI and not WWII.

  GOTG was really good, GOTG2 however..? Pretty shitty. What if that was lightning in a bottle for Gunn? Before them he had only done Super and Slither, 2 highly over-rated films.

        Yeah it was. That was confirmed multiple times by Zack, Chris Terrio, producers, and the actors. Not to mention it was obvious that was happening if you paid any attention to the character arcs in BvS. At the end of BvS, Superman finally put his full trust in the people of Earth and made peace with his demons, and Batman saw the error of his ways and was redeemed.

        I remember hearing part of the reason Superman's scenes were reshot was because he was still too dark. And you still have a zoom-in to WW's ass, so she was still over sexualized. Batman was probably a lot more brutal.
        It's Snyder. He wasn't going to make a light/hopeful movie with likeable characters. That's not what he does.
        The unwatchable report isn't hard to believe if you're objective. BvS was terrible. A studio doesn't spend millions of dollars in reshoots when they know they have a good movie.
        And Affleck said it clearly: Whedon made the movie better.

        Because that's part of his track record as a filmmaker. He was an executive producer for that film/documentary.
        Same reason Snyder has films like Under the Hood and The Last Photograph in his record. RT doesn't just list major directed movies.

      MoS was a critical and financial disappointment and Snyder had plenty of freedom. He was allowed to kill Zod, which wasn't in the original story.
      He had even more freedom with BvS, as that was entirely his idea.
      Instead of making a 2.5 hour movie, he shot 4 hours of footage. You can't blame WB for not releasing a 3 hour theatrical cut as that would have been financial suicide given the movie was widely considered bad, and a longer cut would mean less screenings and less repeated views. Still Snyder was allowed to edit it and choose the material that was going to be released on theaters and instead of focusing on connective tissue, he kept pointless scenes like the knightmare scene. Once again, his fault, not WB.
      Still he was given another underserved chance with JL, and he delivered a cut that was reported to be unwatchable. That's when WB intervened, fired Snyder and hired Whedon, and they were justified to do so.
      WB did screw up Suicide Squad, but Snyder had plenty of freedom and chances to deliver and he just didn't.

        Not by any means. The UE would have made less money due to less screenings. It had more connective tissue but it became over long and tedious. It was still not a good movie. WB made the right call, and like I said, Snyder should have edited the theatrical cut better and choose connective tissue over eye candy.

      He made those jokes way before he got the gig for the first Guardians, and he apologized for them prior to the film coming out. It wasn't like he did those things, let alone assaulted, verbally berated or harassed cast and crew members.
      How is it justified to fire a director for making bad jokes who HAD ALREADY apologized for them years before? Why didn't they just remove him after the first film?
      WB will have scored a big coup if they get Gunn to write and direct one of their DC titles.

        The thing is, Gunn said these things back in 2009 - 2011 before Marvel hired him to direct the first 'Guardians' movie -- and yet they did. He apologized for the remarks in summer 2014 (and didn't write any more), and yet conservatives bring up these old tweets as "payback" for Roseanne Barr to get him fired from the third GOTG film.
        I'm not excusing what Gunn wrote, but Disney is making it okay to fire people who make jokes in poor taste (who are otherwise decent people) even AFTER they apologize years ago for it.
        How screwed up is that?

Come on the leading star of the MCU has been in prison for heavy drug charges and other things and he was an adult while doing them, point is though RDJ has changed and is nothing like that now and Disney clearly don't care now about that dark side of his past.       You cannot compare a man's addiction to Gunn's jokes. Most addicts aren't bad people, and the circumstances of addiction are completely different for everyone. RDJ being addicted doesn't make him a bad person.
      The jokes Gunn made kinda do. Not only where they incredibly vulgar, there are far too many of them to just be part of an act and in my opinion show a lot about him as a person and his deeper hidden personality. I know what I'm talking about because I know first hand, what an abusive person is and what an addict is. People are not the same at their core. That's the biggest bullshit in the world. Not everyone is good and not everyone wants to be good.

And the BLACK actor they had playing Uncle Remus was the first to win any kind of Oscar.       Commercially? Yes. Critically? No. That's the key here. People actually enjoyed them enough to encourage repeat viewing, meaning they had good legs. Contrast that with something like BVS, which had a strong opening but then dropped like a rock the following weeks because of the negative buzz.

        Because that's part of his track record as a filmmaker. He was an executive producer for that film/documentary.
        Same reason Snyder has films like Under the Hood and The Last Photograph in his record. RT doesn't just list major directed movies, they list every film the filmmaker was involved with.
