Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has seen a lot of success with that franchise, but could he be bringing his skills over to DC one day?
According to Gunn, he's already been given the opportunity to direct a DC movie but decided not to for whatever reason. It sounds like he'd be open to it in the future though. Check out a recent exchange he had with a fan on Twitter below.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 starts shooting in January, so if it were a current offer it'd probably be for something that we wouldn't see for a while.
Could be JL Dark. Doug Liman had been on board while he had at least one other movie I think. And the Nightwing director too : he is working on two movies right now (D&D and another one I don't remember).
His last Gaurdians wasn't so good. My opinion of him is still up in the air.

It was sold as a sci fi and adventures film... and it wasn't at all, was a dark, sort of dramatic and complicated story with some symbolism. That's why it was hated.

No, that does not "probably" means anything at all, works of art like 2001 and Blade Runner were despised at their time, i have hear a lot lately of this "art is subjetive" and "if it is so bad, why does it have good scores in RT and IMDB?" as if that had any meaning at all, sounds to me more like excuses to defend bad movies

Art is totally subjective. Reviews and box-office definitely matter, A LOT. Fanboy arguments can be fun. But most movies aren't objectively bad or good. So it's all about the scoreboard. If you liked Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and wanted a sequel, you're the one who wins. Because that movie was supported well at the box-office, and the world didn't completely sh!t all over it. And if you're the movie-goer that thought it sucked? That means you lost money, time, and the only thing you have, is the hope that OTHER people will agree with YOUR negative opinion.
This is why people take these geek movies so personally. If they don't get satisfaction from the movie, they have to get it from hating on it. Because they're basically heartless supervillains.😂 https://uploads.disquscdn.c...

At the time, i thought Last Action Hero was one of the best films id ever seen. Nobody went to see it and all critics hated it. You will have a hard time finding a critic that still thinks that way. The film was 20 years ahead of its time.
Now, with films like TLJ and GotG2, critics love it and we all know how much a critic and RT score can affect the GP these days.. I thought both of those films were absolutely horrible.
I might be right again 20 years from now. That doesnt make me negative.

Yeah, they both have soem good stuff in it, but they choose to focus the movie on dumb jokes, i mean same problem as Ragnarok: if you are gonna make a comedy, make it FUNNY, otherwise what is the point? They are entertainning and are well done in the technical aspects, and some story points are good, but it just goes nowhere

Man, did i feel embarrased in the theater in that scene, i cannot believe i actually paid for that after the fuck ups of Ultron and Iron Man 3, jokes that kill the tone are the biggest flaw of the mcu and what stops it for making great movies, Infinity War was amazing, and still had those flaws (among others)

I'm fascinated by your view towards Vol. 2. Not going to try convince you otherwise as we all have our opinions and we humans tend to be pretty stubborn in our own views and beliefs.
Vol. 2 has probably got to be one of the best Marvel movies to date as it actually focuses of moving characters towards rather then most of every other superhero being stuck in their perpetual second act (just like comic books). I don't believe Yondu's death was a forced tear jerker as the themes of parenthood (specifically fatherhood) runs right throughout the movie, even right from the opening with baby groot dancing as they're fighting the alien beastie. Hell, the main plot was Peter and his father.
I think most recoiled recoiled from it because it slowed down its pace compared to Vol. 1 and definitely all the other Marvel movies (it's almost as if viewers have been conditioned to expect Marvel's dull formula after all these years. Not that Vol. 2 is completely abssent of it). At first when i saw it i honestly didn't think too much of it, but after pondering on it and having a second viewing i came to appreciate what it did.
Marvel movies are always going to suffer from too many jokes and those jokes ruining some special moments because they can't let a scene stay too serious or emotional for too long, have to throw that joke in at the end of the scene lest we actually feel something. So i respected what Vol. 2 did inat least letting Yondu's funeral actually mean something and feel weighted and not throwing in a scene ruining joke.
The reason Yondu is force is because he showed up in the 3rd act and the 'Dad' feelings came out of no where. The guy who kidnapped the kid Star Lord and treated him like a slave all that time. Sure Yondu kept an eye out for Star Lord but maybe a long distant Uncle but a dad is a big stretch.
Showed up in the third act to interact with Star Lord? We did follow him throughout the movie and he did reveal a lot about his character with Rocket in around the second act, not to mention stuff established with Vol. 1. I think you have an argument if you're looking at Vol. 2 on its own and not taking stuff established with the first movie (which i think is a problem with SW:TLJ. That story has its merits if you look at it as a singular movie, but when you look at the big picture and take all other 7 movies into account it's a hot mess). Perhaps they didn't show and establish more about the relationship between Yondu and Peter, but i guess that's where a matter of opinion comes into account and i thought taking both movies into account it showed things fine of this group of messed up people trying to the best they can.
My point is there was no 'dad' feelings until the final act of vol. 2. It was forced.

Vol. 2 was such a disappointment imo. I was completely turned off by the overuse of cheap comedy. The tone was so childish in comparison to the first one. When Starlord used the Pac-Man thing, I rolled my eyes so hard.
Ego is one of the better MCU villains.
That’s not saying much. Let’s be honest, Thanos was incredible, but the villains of the MCU are satisfactory at best. Hopefully Thanos is a step in the right direction although Ghost from Ant Man and the Wasp looks like another generic plot filler.
I think their villains were starting to get better after Ego, though Kilmonger was half a step backwards. Still haven't seen IW, so my opinion of Thanos is blank.
And I'm already betting that Ghost is actually Janet, unless they've disproved that theory.
Kilmonger was fantastic though, his methods were extreme yes but he made a great point and his views are actually something most would agree on and in the end he got the hero to side with views just with less violence and murder. Easily my 2nd favorite MCU villain behind Thanos.
It was more of, like Zemo, his plans went off without a hitch perfectly. At least with Lex in BvS, he attempted to control the variables in his plans. He didn't leave everything up to chance.
Klimonger on the other hand didn't really have to kill Klaww. He already has proof that he's a Wakandan citizen. Hell, he could've killed Klaww without doing any robberies. He was fortunate that no one opposed to his rule, when he made it extremely obvious that he was an extremist. He was lucky that the robe men sided with him, simply because their leader was an idiot.
Klaww was wanted man in Wakanda so killing him was gesture of good will considering they wanted him dead anyway. No one would oppose his rule, he earned it fair and square in a battle they have to do for the throne and now that he's King he's in charge plus he's the new "Black Panther" what again holds weight for him being the one what has the say.
But killing him RIGHT AFTER he escaped would've/should've arouse suspicion. "We had Klaww in custody, but these people came and helped him escaped. I don't know how we'll find him no-. Huh? A man who we have no records of just arrived and he has brought Klaww's dead body with him? That's very convenient."
Until T'Challa came and talked about some technicality. Even though it was clear to everyone that T'Challa did in fact lose and Klimonger won fair and square, the spear women decide to rebel.....even though they were at first sticking to the rules.
Thing is only T'Challa wanted him brought in alive, everyone else wanted him dead and Kilmonger gave them exactly what they wanted. As for records he had mouth thing what was enough for them to except him.
The spear woman rebelled because she was closest to T'Challa and his most trusted friend outside his love interest, she also didn't agree with Kilmonger's goals. End of the day Luther's goals were way more convoluted and messy in BvS but you will happily buy that, yeah Kilmonger plans are a bit convoluted and yes his plan relies on certain things happening but convoluted villain plans what rely on certain stuff happening is a thing whats been in Films/TV/Game/Books/Comic Books for gods knows how long. The Joker in TDK has some pretty convoluted plans (yes he has plans despite his many lies) but that doesn't stop being the greatest villain in comic book films and one of the best villains in film.
It doesn't matter. They should've been immediately suspicious of the guy who just so happens to bring Klaww's dead body. T'Challa should've immediately had demanded Kilmonger to tell him how Killmonger had accomplished the task. And when I mean records, I meant they had no idea the guy existed.

The guy gave them something they wanted for 20+ years, proved he was one of them, and explained who he really is, the last thing on their mind would be asking how he did.

Yes it was, especially since Killmonger immediately demanded for a chance at the throne. I highly doubt there's fake replicas of the ring. It was stupid not to say anything, and it nearly cost T'Challa his kingdom.
Only T'Challa saw the ring, and even though there's no replicas, you cant prove its him. Like i said, he had guilt and he even gave him a shot at the thrown out of pity,he even went as far as giving him a chance to back down before the fight and figure out another way to handle the situation. He probably knew it was him, and understood his anger, but in the end, he still brought them the guy they were looking for.

During the bvs fight, why did batman put the Spear in the abandoned building far away? Superman couldve killed him or something. Why not put the kryptonite in the machine guns? Again, he felt guilty and bad. He felt responsible for how killmonger turned out, because if it wasnt for his father abandoning him, his heart wouldn't be filled with hate.

I'm a huge Guardians Vol 1 fan, and I was immensely disappointed with the sequel. It was an absolute rubbish.
I could see him working well on something like Shadowpact or Justice League Dark, actually.

We won't see Lantern in a while. It's too expensive to make. If Aquaman is a big hit financially I can see it fast track. Effects wise Aquaman is comparable to Lantern.

Patty Jenkins hadn't directed many movies before Wonder Woman and also David F Sandberg and it is nice you only name directors with good reviews scores but the same logic doesn't apply to Snyder
Snyder is done directing these movies for the foreseeable future so I don't see why they would name him. Hamada isn't gonna let him within 100 feet of a director's chair.

Before Wonder Woman, Patty Jenkins on her FIRST feature "Monster" directed an actress to an Oscar win. It received massive critical acclaim across the board. David F Sandberg gave us a fantastic Horror Film in "Lights Out" back in 2016. Widely praised. He also took a film franchise like "Annabelle" which the first film was just awful, got asked to direct a sequel to it that resulted in a shockingly enjoyable film that revolves around a doll that literally just sits on a chair for the majority of the movie. James Wan and Matt Reeves speak for themselves. They're flat out awesome at their craft. I'll disagree with your attempt at an insult on Snyder due to the fact I love most of his movies.
Yet Gunn has zero credits other than 2 GotG films and you call him a 'great director'
uhh super was a great satire. but i agree his filmography other than that isnt too great.
I'm still to an extent up in the air with Sandberg. However, i've enjoyed every feature he has directed. Even his numerous short films are simply excellent. He has a firm grasp on filmmaking for someone so new to the mainstream industry.
James Wan has yet to let me down. I loved his horror work anyway prior to him directing "Furious 7." However seeing how he handled all the drama during the filming process when Paul Walker passed was remarkable. He had to restructure, rewrite then finish filming without Walker. The end result was a fantastic movie. He's always going to have my respect after that. I'll pay to see anything he directs.

James Wan and Matt Reeves are both really damn good. And in spite of all the damage the first wave of movies did to the brand, you have creators like Matthew Vaughn and J.A. Bayona publicly stating they want to revive the Superman series.
Don't get me wrong, the franchise HAS been damaged, but that doesn't mean talented people aren't still in the cards.

I honestly never thought Goyer was a great fit for the GL Corps anyway, particularly one described as Lethal Weapon in Space.

I don't think that because GotG has that flavor of humor that he'd necessarily apply it to GL, but the buddy cop idea does lend to some humor, and I'm all for that so long as it's handled tastefully.
James Gunn is also great at making the audience care about characters, so I'm imagining some banter between Hal and John, but also some emotional undercurrent and meaningful backstory.
Yeah, i am not a fan of the buddy cop angle either, i dont want 20 different earth Green Lanterns, one, that could be Hal or John (the kid is not a great character and Gardner is unbearable)
Buddy cop doesn't mean 20. It means 2. Hence "buddy."

That's been a big problem for these movies, getting the audience to actually care about the characters. Wonder Woman did it well and I think that both Shazam and Aquaman are gonna deliver in this regard too; Wan did some nice work getting people to actually invest in the drivers in the F&F franchise.

Yes Green Lanter Corps would be great for him, i could see him catching Hal's voice so well.
Based on his Guardians work, he could probably nail a Green Lantern Corps movie with no problem, but I doubt he would be interested because it would likely be too similar to what he’s already done. Should WB ever decide to actually do Flashpoint though, I think he could be a good choice.

My only issues is that he adds a ridiculous scene that changes the story. While he might be great for Green lantern, he couldn't do Hal Jordan or John Stewart, I find them serious, but perhaps Cruz and Bass.

I might be inclined to agree were it not leaked by The Ascended Ancient who has a history of leaking deleted material from JL. He's the one who leaked the Barry saving Iris scene and the Cyborg trying to control his powers scenes - all of which were not included on the Blu-Ray.

Do we really need to go back in line and talk about Zack Snyder and his flop movies. I believe in James Wan, Sandberg, Matt Reeves, and Patty based on their past work. That they would put out a much better quality than Marvel and their comedy trash formula.

If you're talking about my preference about GotG2 over GotG1, then I prefer Ego over Ronan, Baby Groot was a charm, and Peter/Yondu relationship is emotional.
If you're talking about DC's previous experience with Joss Whedon, then touch every DC characters you want: make them look stupid, make them inappropriate... they can be Marvelous... except the Trinity because those are established characters, don't downgrade them. Yeah and don't accept paycheck for a contract you can't hold.

You're still blaming Whedon when all he did was follow orders. The audience didnt connect with snyders vision, so WB tried something different at the last minute to try to please the crowd. Did it work? Yes and no. All i know is that if whedon was in charge since the beginning, the end result would've been great.

I love MoS and I really appreciate BvS (even if its marketing was f*cked by spoilers and Cyborg/Flash/Aquaman's introduction was forced), I know what Zack Snyder did with his previous movies, why would I blame him? Critics were positive towards TDKR and it came after The Avengers. Same for WW. They panned the mediocre/garbage movies like MoS, BvS, SS and JL, and rightly so.

I don't know if that would fit well. I for one wouldn't want DC to be turned into a comedy act like marvel. I mean it works for marvel and with guardians they almost had to make a comedy out of it. The entire premise is ridiculous. A talking racoon and tree and a green girl and a jacked up grayish dude the has the IQ of a 7 year old. They had to make it funny for it to work. But DC has gritty, hardened, very dark charcaters. I just don't see trying to turn DC into a comedy act like marvel making sense. I think DC should go even darker. Removing Snyder is a good step. I don't find him to be a good director, never have and I was worried about BvS because of Snyder's limited capabilities as a director in my opinion. Now hire good writers and directors and give us the DC movies we all deserve to see. Don't ruin what could and should be awesome by trying to turn it into a comedy act because it works for marvel because that just won't work for DC, atleast I don't think so.
I don't know why people insist DC has darker characters when two of their mascots are Wonder Woman and Superman. Both companies have a large assortment of characters who could be described as darker or lighter.
Different characters have different tones to them. A dark and gritty tone fits perfectly for a character like Batman but would be horrible for a character like Shazam, and vice versa. A successful DCEU should have a variety of feels to their movies.
It’s just that Marvel has the more ridiculous characters that make it work. I can only think of Plastic Man if Gunn ever thought of to make a DC movie. Or from the recent comic The Terrifics. Something he will probably excel at.

Because those (mostly) third-rate directors just follow orders from Feige and Disney, that is why it is the same movie over and over. And the fanboys rush to see MCU movies no matter how bad they are, but the fanboys have no idea who the director is - and no loyalty once Disney replaces them.

Finally got around to seeing GOTG lately as I found the Guardians pretty entertaining in IW they were easily my favourite part of the film.
Watched GOTG expecting a fun ride and was surprised to actually find out the film was just a mediocre bore.
Humour wasn’t funny, cgi was horrible, soundtrack was good but distracting and couldn’t save this underwhelming film
I almost fell asleep watching it it was so boring. Was just very surprised considering I found the Guardians so entertaining in IW, and I had remember GOTG was a hit way back
But it appears the Guardians have come a long way since then

A comedy movie is funny when people understand its references, a movie like Deadpool2 contains a lot of references from pop culture which won't stand through time. Comedy evolves through time, you won't laugh at the things your parents were laughing and your children won't laugh at the things you laugh now, sometimes you don't even laugh at the things you laughed in the past, so why are you so upset about this fact?

LOL, you still think I am mad about MCU, no dude, I just consider Zack Snyder doing better movies than most of the MCU movies. But I give you that, Black Panther and Infinity War were great, Marvel has recently learned some stuff about DC movies: interesting villains like Killmonger and Thanos, good music from Ludwig Göransson with his Killmonger theme (Marvel should keep this guy), better action scenes or costumes through time. But guess what? Zack Snyder gave me those way before Marvel did, before Geoff Johns and other WB executives ruin everything with their diet Marvel copycat plans.

You're failing to understand several things about comedies:
-Comedies don't always rely purely on fun factor. Case point, Back to the Future movies. They are sci-fi comedies (with a lot of pop culture references btw), yet they have stood the test of time perfectly. Why? because they are great movies that people enjoy beyond their ability to make people laugh.
-Another example: The Goonies. An adventure comedy film that has stood the test of time. Why? Same as above. It's a good movie.
-Another one: Home Alone. Even when there are countless of christmas movies, it's still a classic.
And there are many other examples like these.
Now, here's why your argument gets even worse: Most Marvel movies aren't even comedies. Besides Thor: Ragnarok, Ant-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel movies are action/adventure/sci-fi. And most importantly, just like the classics I mentioned above, Marvel movies do not rely on their ability to make people laugh. Every single Marvel movie has had great to decent reception.
Movies like The First Avenger, Winter Soldier, Iron Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, The Avengers, Doctor Strange, Infinity War, Black Panther, had less comedy and were still highly successful. Hell, Infinity War is the most successful superhero movie ever and it was far from being a comedy.

Putting Superman in a spot where killing was the only choice was a creative decision. A different ending would simply be a different creative decision, not a cop-out.
In fact Nolan had Zod being sent to the phantom zone. That was the original ending. Snyder changed it and went with Superman killing Zod with his bare hands, against Nolan's advice.
The worst thing about that scene is that it never pays off. It doesn't change Superman in any way, it doesn't make him grow as a character, as it's pretty clear he's still willing to kill in BvS. Thus killing Zod was completely pointless.

I don't see a problem there. Doomsday is a mindless monster who needs to be destroyed. The problem was killing Zod. That creative decision was completely unnecessary. Snyder wanted to explore Superman's aversion for killing but ultimately he didn't. Superman killing Zod was never adressed in BvS, neither was Superman's thoughts on killing (in fact he's willing to kill Batman), so sending Zod to the phantom zone like Nolan wanted would have been a much better choice.

Because, by killing Zod, he closed the door to his homeworld. In MoS, he felt alone because he didn't know what he was. He was happy to find his heritage and people, but chose Earth over his home. In BvS, when people started rejecting him that's when he felt that both doors were closed and he had no where else to turn to.

Doomsday may be the dumbest DC character, but you can clearly see he's taking pleasure when he kill people or poor animals, he can laugh of it, he has enough intelligence to be tricked by commercials too. Zod is more intelligent, which makes him a greater threat than Doomsday: Doomsday can destroy a continent, but Zod can destroy humanity ;-)

Seeing people claim GotG is an objectively bad film while knowing they also defended Justice League, Suicide Squad, and BvS is interesting. To each their own. I'd love to see Gunn do something either scary or cosmic. He'd have done a great job with JL Dark.

Not sure what one I would give him but I have no doubt he could deliver for DC. He's proven his worth. With GotG being in space, folks may lean to Green Lantern but I think he has the talent to mix it up with a couple different franchise key characters if he had the option.
I'm not saying James Gunn is overrated, he's not. I just don't think he's worth all the hype that surrounds him. Honestly I don't see him jumping ship from Marvel anytime soon anyways.
