DC Universe live-action shows won't all be part of the same universe

The shows being produced exclusively for Warner Bros.' upcoming digital service, DC Universe, won't be tied to their movie universe. In fact, they aren't trying to build a universe at all with their DC Universe shows.

CNET got a hands-on demo of DC Universe today at San Diego Comic-Con and broke the news. Shows like Titans and Doom Patrol will be connected, but Swamp Thing is completely separate and will not be tied to anything at all.

"We have no mandate to tie everything together," DC Chief Creative Officer and Publisher Jim Lee said.

And speaking of DC Universe shows, Geoff Johns announced today at a SDCC panel that he will write and produce a Stargirl series for DC Universe.

DC Universe will be available this fall for $8/month (or $75 a year). Batman News comic reviewer Andrew Asberry is at San Diego Comic-Con and got his own look at the upcoming service. Check out the video below for a preview of what reading comics on your TV will be like using DC Universe. The app will be available on iOS and Android, as well as Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV and Google Chromecast.

As long it's not connected to the tennie crappy DCW shows, I'm cool with it.

I just want shows that aren't connected to the CW shows. Whether that means those shows are connected or not is fine. Just please do not make anymore shows connected to Green Arrow, Flash, or Supergirl. Please!

    God, I wish. I'm gutted over Barbara not being in Birds of Prey.
    We need a proper Batgirl somehow, somewhere, and soon.

      Well they are still working on a solo movie for her. I'm sure if Birds of Prey is a hit they'll get things moving on Batgirl.

      I'm pissed Babs isn't leading her own team in the film but we are getting Cass instead (who i'm hoping is Batgirl) and i prefer her to Babs, hopefully Shiva is in it as well.

    And this is despite that it was known for months previously that the show was gonna have a lot of cursing and graphic violence. But no, people want to call “edgy and immature”at the show.

      idk why people have such a problem with it. Im not the least bit concerned with it being dark personally. Its an interesting and different take imo. And i doubt they will be dropping F bombs regularly. Probably just an occasional thing. But I really thought older fans would have been a bit more excited for this considering how much they complain about Teen Titans Go. I like the idea of DC having something for everyone.
      As for the costumes and stuff, I thought they were fine in all honesty. Seemed pretty standard for a tv budget. I guess I get why they aren't "ideal", but I dont see how they are AWFUL like so many people seem to think.
      But as always, I will give it a chance before making such definitive and harsh judgments. I wish more people did the same. But I guess thats perspective for ya. I just genuinely cant see anything blatantly bad about it like other people seem to be able to.

        I feel the same. You really expect a lot of comic book accuracy when shows like this don’t have a huge budget. And I also doubt that the characters are gonna be cursing up a storm a lot of times. It just seems that people are quick to call something “edgy”.
        And from what I heard on Reddit, that might not Starfire’s true costume. A guy said the from an episode description or review, Starfire had went to a 70s-themed costume party. And others have speculated that Beast Boy May only turn green during his transformations.

        the beast boy thing makes sense. Again its a tv show. Was wondering how they would make him work on a budget like that. Turning into all kinds of animals would have been extremely difficult. Like I said, none of this is really "ideal"(ideally we would be getting a Titans movie), but for a show, I think it looks pretty cool

        Well the trailer was a pure bloodbath, and then there's the hard cursing. If this can't be called "edgy", then nothing is, because even GoT, which set the standard for TV violence, doesn't have trailers with this much blood.

        How about instead of trying to cover all the bases of the tone spectrum, they just release something true to the original source? We don't need a campy AND a gory version of Teen Titans. And just because you don't like one extreme doesn't mean you love the other.

      It's because of the terrible dialogues and really bad cinematography and the really bad costumes and the terrible sound effects. People aren't just complaining because it's dark and edgy.

Lets just hope it makes its way over to the UK otherwise i'm pirating Titans and the other shows, i don't paying at all but if its US only i will no choice but to find other means.

  I hope they add entire runs to it like Johns Green Lantern run, Morrison's Batman run and Waid's Flash run. It would be a good way of getting people more interested in these characters and getting them cached up with the best stuff.

    I'd love to get caught up on some epic sagas I missed that I haven't been able to afford to collect because I'm buying so many other GNs. haha

      I've been catching up with Waid's Flash run with the tradeback collections they have been releasing ever 6 months, its a pain waiting but its a good way to catch up. They have just released an Omnibus of the first part of Morrison's BM run, i've read around half of his run (haven't read much of his Dick Bats though) but i'm planning on getting it as its collects everything except Final Crisis what has its own Omnibus releasing soon what is £100+ because it has everything, i own the Absolute version but i haven't read all the tie ins for it except the Rogues one and the Legion one so i shell most likely put that on my Xmas list.
      The one great thing what both the CW stuff and the DCEU has done is its caused DC to start releasing more and more collections now so i'm dead happy about that, right now i'm reading Rucka's first WW run as that got released last year as a full collection split into 2 books and i've been really enjoying it.

        Edit - It just occurred to me that you meant the older Rucka stuff. Classic. That was my introduction to Wonder Woman comics. :) I remember being annoyed at how he wrote Batman in Hiketeia. lol
        I was aware of the George Perez series at that point, but didn't properly read that til later.

    zoli question since u seem to be a comic book reader. i heard digital sales arent counted by comic companies. is this true and if so wouldnt adding more runs to the digital service be negative 4 the company by their own logic?

      I don't actually know, i go digital because its the only way to stay up to date in the UK but otherwise i go tradebacks to get them all collected. I suspect they are counted because otherwise surely they wouldn't allow Digital sales? With DC Universe though its something made and ran by DC themselves so i can imagine adding older runs to it wouldn't harm them because it means more people would sub to it.

Thanks for the video. Never gave it any thought to it before, but reading comics on it is like a digital reader. I'm an old-timer and can't stand reading my comic books any other way than print, so that's not a feature I'd use often if ever.
