New 'Shazam' photo of Zachary Levi features his glowing lightning bolt

Last week Entertainment Weekly released the first official photo of Zachary Levi as Shazam from the movie, and today they released another! In today's new photo, we see Freddy Freeman (played by Jack Dylan Grazer) touching Shazam's glowing lightning bolt on his chest.

Fans can expect even more from Shazam later this week. The first trailer will debut on Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con, along with the first trailer for Aquaman and a sneak peek at Wonder Woman 1984.

Shazam hits theaters on April 5, 2019.

    It looks more simplistic but that's not a bad thing. I'd rather it look like that than look like DCEU Flash or the 'tactical' Batsuit or those type of Halo looking outfits. Just be thankful he doesn't have lightning bolt teardrops and Shazaam tatted across his forehead, because you know some dumbass at WB thought about it...

      Well I could mention ALL the terrible character designs in the DCEU, but Joker is the easiest to make a quick point. I find it far from cheap, yet very simplistic. Simple can be better. Especially if it fits the tone. This may not even be a finished, polished product. Would you prefer it had a rubbery texture? I dont get what makes it look cheap? I think it's more comic accurate than 95% of DCEU characters thus far anyways.

      First off, "comic book accurate" needs to be dropped as a justification in a discussion. Not everything from a comic can and should be adopted. You adopt what makes sense, what is important, and what looks good on the screen. And I'm not just talking about the suit, I'm talking about everything pertaining to the character. So to me, even if it looks faithful to the comic, that's not saying much.
      Second, look at the muscles on the suit and Levy's face. They don't match. That's both because the suit looks unnatural with all the padding but also because Levi has a thin face on a thin neck. Someone else could have probably made it work -- someone with a more pronounced, more square jaw-line. Think of Cavil. We know his suit was padded, but it does not matter, because he can pull it off. Levy can't. So, you either have to reduce the size of the suite, or get a different actor. As it stands, he looks unbelievable in that suit. It does not look organic. In fact, since you like comic book accuracy, check out any Shazam pictures in the comics, and you'll see what I'm saying.
      Third, you don't see it here, but his boots look like he is wearing sandels with socks on. The previous design that they ditched was more presentable.
      Fourth, that belt is not a belt. It's just some ornament in V-shape that serves no purpose, and it looks like it's made of rubber. Isn't it supposed to be gold? Let the Shazam fans correct me, but I'd at least understand from the aesthetic perspective a suit that had gold ornaments. Same goes for the arm gauntlets -- they don't look metal, they look plastic. Compare them to WW's gauntlets -- the difference in quality is so strikingly clear, only a blind would not see it.
      Fifth, the lightning effect on that symbol on his chest looks like, quoting another commenter here, LEDs. Like he put on Halloween costume with lighting in it. Isn't it supposed to be an actual lightning shining through it? Well, that would have been way brighter and more powerful. You may say that it's just an unfinished special effect and that it have lightning pulse and strike through his chest in the movie, but then why the hell release an official picture in such a state?
      And finally, his smile looks goofy/creepy, but that's just a nitpick, a cherry on top of the cake.

      They release pictures like that for a lot of movies, especially right around comic con. Wonder woman's outfit looked just like that plastic looking stuff on set. And at closer look, his costume does have that rubbery material look. Now his face, very weird and definitely creepy. I got nothing for that. They'll have to clean that shit up in post as well.

      Exactly. There's a reason they do camera tests and editing. People act like they're gonna zoom in on his belt in the middle of the movie. Or zoom in on Captain Marvel's baggy Kree outfit. I always gotta keep in mind though that there's always kids and a new generation who are following this kind of stuff for the very first time.

      You know that isn't a shot from the film, right? It's out of context. Just like the goofy looking Batfleck BvS pics from EW and every other "first look" from movies that EW does. (hell, even the Batman bubblegum card pics from Batman 89) These comments are identical to the ones going back to early images of Spider-Man and X-Men.

Are you a fan of the character? Because this is a pretty fucking cool shot of Billy showing of his power to Freddy for the first time. It looks like it came straight out of the comic and is also an indication that they understand the type of character Billy Batson/Shazam is. He doesn't even look ripped, just big, that mid section is a straight line and his shoulders are ridiculously big. I don't get what's up with DC and their padding. Either get your actors on steroid so they look like a comic book character and a bodybuilder or accept that normal humans just aren't that big.
And the "gold" details just look plastic and there's no way anybody is gonna think anything besides a suit with a light. It doesn't look like magic, just a bolt shaped screen with lights under

I'm cautious about this film as well, but I don't think it will be an MCU rip-off. I think it will do justice to the character while being a fun, lighthearted contrast to the darker DCEU films (which I absolutely adore). I mean, he's a kid in an adult's body. I don't want it to be dark. If you want dark Shazam, just play the first Injustice game where Superman snaps Billy's neck. Ouch.
