Green Lantern Corps: Warner Bros. rumored to be looking at younger actors for John Stewart

It's been a while since we've heard anything about Green Lantern Corps. Mission: Impossible director Christopher McQuarrie reportedly passed on the opportunity to direct it, but Warner Bros. is still hard at work on it if a new rumor is to be believed.

According to scooper @DanielRPK, Warner Bros. is looking at actors in their late 20s and early 30s to play John Stewart in Green Lantern Corps. @DanielRPK revealed the news in response to 42 year old This Is Us actor Sterling K. Brown saying he'd be interested in the role.

A younger actor excludes some popular names fans have wanted to see as John Stewart, like Sterling K. Brown and Idris Elba. It also crosses Tyrese Gibson off the list, who has campaigned very hard for the role over the years.

      lol ? No sure what’s funny lol but Jordan’s portrayal of Killmonger was really good and one of the best Marvel villains to date. I do believe an actor has no limits but black panther came out this year.

I really wanted Jessica Cruz to be the main green lantern. The JL Is already a giant sausage fest with Wonder Woman being the lone female. Jessica Cruz would also checkmark the Latin box so two for one.

      An all-but-completely overlooked TV show that was quickly cancelled and a bomb of a movie that is the butt of almost as many comic book movie jokes as Batman & Robin? Yeah, pretty rough.
      Hal deserves one worthy film, at least, before we suggest dumping him.

        TV show was pretty good though. Point is as much as people like to act like Hal is some sort of victim, he's still effectively been treated as the face of the franchise ever since Johns took over the series. In fact the only time I can think of since then that another GL was used in an adaptation was when they had Guy in the Brave and the Bold cartoon and John in the Justice League Dark movie.
        Hal's doing just fine, so him sharing the spotlight with someone else isn't a big deal.

        I don't mind him sharing the spotlight with someone else, and I don't mind other GLs being around. The Hal/John "Superhero Rush Hour in Space" idea sounds great to me.
        Replacing him with Jessica Cruz before he gets a worthy film is premature is all I'm saying.

I was hoping for a Jessica Cruz/Simon Baz centered Green Latern. I like the idea of Stweart, but in my opinion I think it'll get compared with Black Panther because the main actor's race, even though they won't be in the same line, BP is set up in Africa, so it can easily draw African themes, but GL is pretty much space. I don't think DC fans will do the critiquing, but I'm kinda tired of the arguing about DC movies.

  Actually, the other rumor about the GL is that WB/DC are interested in a Jessica Cruz/Simon Baz movie, where they go to find/rescue Hal Jordan who is lost in space. That looks like they want to play the race card. But at least in this case, can we get a Cyborg movie too?

    He’s talked about how he wants to be his own superhero and Marvel’s use of Heimdall is just not doing it for him, so I bet he would’ve taken DC up if they would’ve offered him his own GL movie.

    I grew up on the same show, but I still have a healthy respect for Hal too, and for the history of DC in it's full scope.
    I love John, I want him in a movie, but Hal is still very important.

    David S. Goyer, who was supposed to be writing and directing GL, said it would be like a buddy cop movie. However, he also helped write TDK Trilogy, MoS, and BvS, so I’m sure there will be plenty that is serious and cool about it, too. Really hope they keep him on board.

      It's likely the script will be rewritten, particularly since Goyer himself said everything was in flux after everything that's happened after BVS and Justice League.

Sterling K. Brown is an excellent choice I had never considered till he shared his interest not so long ago. Idris Elba is a long frontrunner who would still be great....
But when I read that they want a young John Stewart, I first think of Lance Gross --- who although is 36 years old could pass for a twenty-something if need be for the film with no problem.
I suppose he will be my new fancast frontrunner now.
