After the backlash to Batman v Superman in 2016, producer Jon Berg and DC's Geoff Johns were put in charge of DC Films at Warner Bros. They didn't get much time to work on things though, because earlier this year Berg was out and Walter Hamada was brought in. Hamada was an executive at Warner Bros.’ sister company, New Line, and overlooked smash hits like IT and The Conjuring.
Recently, Warner Bros. updated its website and added a bio for Mr. Hamada. His official title is "President of DC-Based Film Production at Warner Bros. Pictures" (there's still no official name for the DCEU). It sounds like he's running things alone, with Geoff Johns taking on the role of a consultant or advisor. The new bio also confirms that Warner Bros. is planning movies on villains, not just superheroes, like The Joker origin movie and Birds of Prey Harley Quinn girl gang projects we've heard about. You can check out Hamada's full new bio below.
President, DC-Based Film Production, Warner Bros. Pictures
Walter Hamada is President, DC-Based Film Production, Warner Bros. Pictures. In this role, he oversees WBP’s slate of films based on Super Heroes and Super-Villains from DC, as well as titles based on other characters and stories also licensed from DC, including its Vertigo and MAD Magazine imprints. Hamada draws upon resources from across both WBP and New Line Cinema and works closely with Geoff Johns, President and Chief Creative Officer, DC Entertainment.
Prior to his current role, Hamada served as Executive Vice President, Production at New Line Cinema, having joined the company in 2007 as Senior Vice President, Production. Among the films he worked on during his decade-long tenure are Friday the 13th, Final Destination, A Nightmare on Elm Street, the global blockbusters The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle and Annabelle: Creation, which together comprise the highest-grossing horror franchise of all time, and IT, the highest-grossing horror film of all time.
Before New Line, Hamada spent four years as a partner at the management and production firm H2F Entertainment. Prior to that, he ran development for MBST Entertainment. Hamada began his career at TriStar Pictures where he ultimately served as Vice President, Production for Columbia Pictures.

Your mom goes to college
Godspeed
wow what an intelligent comment. what are you 7 ?
Eric Boles
Have you never seen Napolean Dynamite? Lol
BAT OF STEEL
I beg to differ, just look at his track record of the past few years. Even all of that is promising and with the latest film "IT" and upcoming " The Nun"; sure they'll replace him!!😒
Godspeed
of course they will. If the Dc films under his supervision are failures he will be gone just like those before him are. Dont be so fucking naive. Nobody in Hollywood cares about past successes.
Hunter Zolomon
I wonder how well these "super villain" films will do? Harley could sell because of Robbie alone but honestly i don't think a Joker film will do well, i can just see audiences passing on it because its yet another Joker film and yet another new actor playing him.
myzterius
A joker movie will definitely do better than a Harley movie.
20 bucks says im right. A joker movie will be more interesting and profitable.
Qthetar .
You can do a Godfather like movie with Joker with gangs like maybe Falcone, Russian mafiya, Maroni, Triads, there are just so many. Making it about his journey before and after getting to the top, causing chaos and all that. Could see it work.
myzterius
Exactly! A Joker movie could stand with the greats and become a classic if done right. I dont expect a Harley movie to be a game changer, it will sell a lot of merchandise though. I doubt she'll do well in a solo movie, just keep her in SS.
Nightwing Fan J
Facts.
Hunter Zolomon
Harley right now is more popular then Joker. Robbie was everyone's high point of SS, Harley is the more popular cosplay option, her book sells loads and she's the character the general audience wanted more off leaving SS. People will look at this Joker film and say where's Batman? Why have they recast him yet again? Why can't they give us another villain for a change?
myzterius
Popularity doesnt equates to success, star wars is popular and its flopping at the box office right now. Weve never had a movie from the jokers pov, and his story is far more interesting than Harley in every way, as a matter of fact harley cant even have an origin movie with joker.
Hunter Zolomon
Solo is flopping right now because its a Han Solo film without Ford as Han and is an origin for a character what never needed one, just remember the past 3 SW films all made over a billion each with TFA making 2 billion.
It doesn't matter if Joker is a better character, right now Harley is the more popular character among general audiences, ask someone who their favorite character was in SS and they will say Harley and ask them do you want a Harley or Joker film and they will say Harley. DC push Harley at every point because they know she sells, she's actually more popular then WW right now and look well that done, a Harley film providing it gets good reviews and marketing isn't R-Rated could easily do that well as well. You only have too look at all these Harley films DC is planning and you can see they know she's box office gold.
myzterius
How is she box office gold? You have zero proof of that. Yes, shes popular and sell alot of cb and merchandise, but a Harley movie will never outgross wonder women.
Hunter Zolomon
SS was Harley's film, lets face it no one was watching for the others except Joker (who everyone more or less hated). When people were exiting SS screenings you would hear them talk of their love for Harley and how they want to see more of her, you are seriously not understanding how big and popular she is and how she's actually more popular then WW.
I never said she would outgross WW i said she could do just as well, will point out though a fucking Black Panther film has outgrossed every Batman film or a film to star Batman so frankly anything is possible, also before you say BP is a black leading film so that made it big well Harley is a bisexual woman so two "minority" baiting things ticked off there especially if Ivy played a part and they adapted some of the characters from her solo series who feel that "minority" list.
OptimistPrime99
It's all about context. A Harley Quinn movie set in a DC Universe, where Batman and other notable heroes and villains exist, and can potentially interact with her, vs. a Joker movie where MAYBE he's going up against a young Jim Gordon, and no Batman at all? One movie clearly would have an advantage over the other, in terms of marketing, hype, and box-office projections. And that's the Harley Quinn movie.
Lol you made some valid points, but you forgot that most people aren't big fans of this current dceu, so people dont really care who might show up tbh. A joker movie can free itself from the bad press the dceu keep getting, they can also bring in some characters that weve never seen before.
Dont worry, ill let you keep your 10 bucks to watch the joker movie when it comes out lol ;)
OptimistPrime99
People don't care about who might show up in a DCEU movie? I think the internet would disagree with that.😂 A cinematic universe simply allows you to keep going, rather than rebooting and starting completely over, just because a movie didn't work. Not unlike comic books, where some titles are great, and others are weak.
People wanna see more of Gal Gadot as Wonder Wonder Woman, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. As for your Joker movie(that will hopefully never get made)? The actor would have to prove that he can live up to Heath Ledger's and Jack Nicholson's performances. And what would it even be? A one and done story? A version of the Joker that never faces off against Batman? If so, then that's less interesting, and meaningful.
Proto-Power
Yea to me a Joker solo movie just seems Odd I can see them doing a story that focuses on the Joker something like the Killing Joke. Other then that it seems like a bad idea. Harley is for sure and I will admit strangely a better bet to get a Solo film or a starring role in some other DC team (SS2 or Sirens hopefully) up movie.
Hunter Zolomon
No it won't, Robbie is super popular as Harley and Harley right now appeals more then Joker and is at the height of her fame. Most people still think of Ledger as The Joker and were put off by Leto, pretty much anyone "casual" i've spoken too about this Joker film have no interest in it because they're sick of recasting him all the time and having Joker in everything. Joker will flop like Solo i'm sure of it.
myzterius
Robbie is popular, but shes no box office draw. Name one solo movie of hers that made a ton of money?
" Harley right now appeals more then Joker and is at the height of her fame. "
Dont let the SS hype crowd your judgement, people like to see her in a group, i doubt they'll be interested in a solo. Most people that went to see SS was mainly for joker, and a lot of people were pissed that he had little screen time, not to mention leto's poor performance. Will smith was also a major factor for the film success.

People were put off by leto, but were getting a new joker, so it doesnt really matter. You say people are sick that the joker keep getting recast, but i can count on one hand how many jokers have appeared on the big screen in the past 30 years, unlike a lot of the other superheroes. Weve only had 2 jokers in 20+ years on the big screen. Im not saying its impossible for a joker movie to flop, but theres little to no chance that it will, harley on the other hand, will most likely bomb without the help of joker and will smith.
Hunter Zolomon
I never said Robbie is super popular i said Robbie is super popular as Harley. SS never created hype and love for Harley but merely enhanced it, she was already the No 1 cosplay for women/girls and her solo book was selling extremely well. Harley was rightly the key marketing point of SS with Joker 2nd but No 1 was her with Harley getting the main screen time of the trailer.
People are sick of he Joker being recast, people didn't want Leto as The Joker because they wanted the role left alone for a while because Ledger is still immensely popular as The Joker. Recasting him a few years again is just going to piss people off especially when this is a Joker film without Batman what again has people asking "why bother".
You also are forgetting one big thing here, Harley is a bi-sexual female who appeals to both males and females alike and right now in today's climate is a far bigger draw then a Joker film what doesn't even have Batman. End of the day there's a big reason DC are pushing Harley so much right now and that's because she sells far more and appeals far more. Trust me this Joker film won't do well, the fact it lacks Batman is more then enough to alienate people, it reminds of fanboys thinking that Solo would do well because its SW and a Han Solo film but forget people loved Ford only as Han and never wanted an origin film for him.
myzterius
All im saying is that i doubt a Harley solo movie will ever happen, gcs, bop,ss might be successful, but not her on her own. Harley is an ingredient, not a recipe. She wont be able to carry a movie on her own, and i see that you never mentioned quality.
Hunter Zolomon
Harley can carry a solo comic all by herself and its one of DC's bigger selling titles, there's pretty much no reason why a solo Harley film couldn't work or sell. You know someone who struggles with solo comic runs though and hasn't had a real hit solo wise? The Joker, you mention ingredients well guess what so is The Joker and without Bats or least someone of hero status playing off him i can't see it working too much without really toning down his traits.
Imagine if Ledger never died and WB decided they wanted a Joker solo film with him with no Batman at all in it or other heroes, now i don't at all doubt he would give another amazing performance but the film would struggle as it would be too much of him having 90% of the screen time. The Joker works best where there's something playing off him whats somewhat sane, one of the best things about TDK is that Nolan didn't give you too much Joker and because of that every time Ledger is on screen it has full impact and the leaves you wanting more once he's off screen. Because of this the Joker film would need to really tone down his character because a 150min film of a actor being full on Joker would really grate.
Harley may be insane but you can make a better solo film with her because you have much more options with her. You can show her origin as Harleen, you explore her relationship with Ivy, you could show her trying and failing to live an honest life, you could explore her love for Animals and people in need, you could make a raunchy R-Rated comedy film filled with innuendo and cartoon violence. Harley just translate better to a Solo film/comic because there's more character to fill a story with plus right now she's one of the most popular comic book characters out there.
That was a bad scene in my opinion. The fast-slow-fast-slow-fast stuff was really cringey. It was hard to watch.
Nahuel Benvenuto
We get a butchered, out of context version of the scene, we will never know how good it really was
BugsMeany
In an early trailer it appeared that the courthouse blew up. I'm OK with not getting that version.
AnonymousHero
Like that WB/DC went all in and took it serious with naming credentials and upping the feeling of security of fans. Just a bio but more than I would expect.
And no official name for the DCEU? How about this...
DC Universe is the name of their new online streaming service (with shows that aren't connected to the movies). https://batman-news.com/201...
AnonymousHero
True, yes, I do remember that article now. But even with that, I'd happily go along with DCU Films. I dig DC Cinema as well. But whatever they go with, it needs to be simple. This DCEU crap has got to go.
The "Extended" thing started online and it's not even well known to the masses. It's not "Extended" at all. The films are supposed to be reppin the comic franchises of the DCU, period. To say something like DCU Films would be a exact representation of what we're looking for.
El Catalan Libanes
DCU are historically the initials for the DC Universe in the comics. If you say "DCU" or "MU" you're referring to their comic continuities.
AnonymousHero
I am aware. I want the comics to be represented directly in the name, hence DCU Films works for me. After all, that is what we're doing here. I dig DC Cinema as well. But whatever name is chose needs to be straight to the point.
Calling these films part of the DCEU is lame. This crap has got to go. The "Extended" thing started online and it's not even well known to the masses. It's not "Extended" at all. The films are supposed to be reppin the comic franchises of the DCU, period. There's no reason why we can't simply call it what it is. It's one of the easiest things to do in this film universe and we need to stop making the easy things so hard.
Talia
Or DCW - DC Worlds, because we don't want to resemble the MCU in any way :P
AnonymousHero
I get that but it's not like we weren't the DCU before. We were always the DCU and DC came before Marvel. We don't all of a sudden need to change for them just because they made their universe in films first. We are the DC Universe -- whatever it is just drop that stupid E.
I can't stand that E.
Christopher
My resume is a giant ball of floating turd fire compared to this guys CV.
myzterius
How can you still not have a name for your shared universe? Where the f is the movie slate? Last but not least, give us that danm aquabro trailer already.
ZaQueerdo
Wan said he wanted to wait until the effects are finished, which is smart. Aquaman has a lot riding on into and they can’t afford a shitty trailer.
myzterius
You're right, but it better be worth the wait.
ItzSilentStorm
comic con most likely.
Nightwing Fan J
Honestly, I'm hoping they do the whole multiverse thing with the current DCEU being Earth-0 and being open to other possibilities down the road. Maybe the DC Universe streaming live-action shows will be Earth-1. It's a bit of a stretch, but it's a fun idea.
myzterius
Sounds interesting.
Seb is a Socialist
what a stupid idea. wont happen.
Nightwing Fan J
Go away moron
Seb is a Socialist
no need for the personal attacks. all i said was it was a stupid idea.
Nightwing Fan J
What do you mean "no need for personal attacks"? You just replied with an insult to my idea, so I responded with the same.
Seb is a Socialist
i insulted ur idea not u smart one. dont get so offended when ppl point our ur ideas are dogshit.
Brett Botbyl
Geoff Johns is not involved in the film side in any controlling capacity whatsoever.
BatmanNewsChris
Yeah it certainly doesn't sound like it. He may help out with some movie scripts (like WW), but it seems like they've moved him over to the DC Universe streaming shows.
Mark
I think there are ongoing philosophical / political battles inside WB regarding how much influence the comics division should have over the movies. I'm sure in the eyes of some, they gave Johns a chance to prove himself in a trial by fire when they put him in charge of Justice League, and when that didn't work out they put him back in a consulting role and told themselves that they could justify ignoring the comics people going forward.
Nightwing Fan J
Isn't he writing the script for Green Lantern Corps?
BatmanNewsChris
No, David Goyer and Justin Rhodes are doing the script. Johns did contribute to the story, assuming they move forward with the one we heard about over a year ago now: https://batman-news.com/201...
Nightwing Fan J
Dang, that's disappointing. Hopefully he has some input as a consultant.
Qthetar .
He’s writing Aquaman as well.
Reverse_Flash
The shitstorm from BvS is never ending. Hands down one of the greatest mistakes in CBM history.
Nahuel Benvenuto
One of the top 10 superhero movies easily, ahead of its time, the more i think about it the more i realize how brillant it was
Bob Burger
It's definitely in the Top 243 for sure.
Shablam
Your mom has done a great job by raising such an imbecile troll Snyderbot.
No, the shitstorm will never end *for you* since that is all you think about every day, for two years now. Who knew a movie about two comic book characters punching each other could ruin someone's life?
Reverse_Flash
Hating on BvS is a lot of fun, specially because a lot of people here, including yourself, are emotionally attached to it.
lol
Kouglof
"Hating on BvS is a lot of fun, specially because a lot of people here, including yourself, are emotionally attached to it."
Hating is fun. Bashing something that a lot of people here are attached is fun.
The problem around BvS never ends because you and some shitty clickbaiters who are sold to comedy movies or who pretend to be CB evangelist feed it.
Reverse_Flash
U mad bro?
LOL
The shitstorm caused by BvS goes way beyond internet mockery. That movie turned WB upside down, lol.
Kouglof
The only thing that has turned WB upside down about their cinematic universe is their decision about Josstice League ;-)
Fréaláf Hildeson
It turned your life upside down. Grow up, because three more DC movies are already in production. It will mentally break you if you keep whining about them all for years.
Light PK
Doesn't matter
Talia
At least it's one single man now, not a slew of people with competing ideas. Having Kevin Feige work over at Marvel, I believe Walter Hamada can fill the same role over at DC.
BROWN_KNIGHT 4 Trump
Based off of what exactly?
Talia
Eh, the article. How are you commenting here if you haven't read the article?
BROWN_KNIGHT 4 Trump
I am commenting on your comment. You read his bio and make the assumption that he will be right person. Based on what? Horror films?
Talia
Based on the fact that he has singular authority on decision making. Thought I made myself clear on that fact. Previously it was Geoff Johns and Jon Berg on equal authority. Very seldom are two bosses with equal power capable of working in sync, it's typically better to be just one capable person heading the entire department. Given we still have to see if Hamada performs well, but at least this is a step in the right direction.
BROWN_KNIGHT 4 Trump
I would wait on early judgments until sdcc. Lets see what his vision is then. Hopefully it will be clear and focused.
Shantanu Singh
I don't see what's great about Hamada, Conjuring series and IT were successful because 'horror' genre is cheap to make and sells quite easily. Even a movie like 'Truth or Dare' was hit on its opening weekend, low-budget 'horror' and 'all black cast' movies sell quite easily.
BROWN_KNIGHT 4 Trump
I just wanna see the new slate. See if they finally found a clear direction.
Frank
Nothing new, Suicid Squad is a franchise about villains but the text isn't specific about separated movies with villains.
