   I guess we are all still gonna argue about these things over and over so here goes: I loved Batman Vs Superman: Ultimate Edition. The film made sense, Bats was great, lots of adults themes. Eisenberg was a phenomenal scene chewer. Snyder’s Justice League would have at least had some gravitas even if he can miss the mark sometimes. Joss Whedon turned Justice League into a sitcom.

      Good post. BVS and even Man of Steel laid some really good foundations going forward. Are they a hundred per cent perfect? Not by a long way but I just didn't get any sense of high stakes with JL like I did with BVS and Man of Steel.

         Thanks for the kind words. There were no stakes in Justice League. The pitiable family that fucking lives in Chernobyl were at risk, I guess. The dichotomy between Snyder (who obvs loves grim late 80s, early 90s DC like I do... best interpretation of what Bats is as a character in my opinion) giving way to Whedon (who made Justice League into fluff) is such a jarring transition.

         Speaking of high stakes, however, I pray to God Matt Reeves gives Batman a murder mystery to solve in Gotham. I don’t need a third Batman-featuring film that ends with Affleck (or whoever) fighting a computerized green screen for 45 minutes.

            Oh yeah that was terrible really wound me up that bit. If it was me I'd have had the big battle in Gotham/Metropolis seen as that's where all the STAR labs employees were being taken from.

            The CG villains are a huge problem aren't they? Not just in DC but comic book films in general. Prime example is Steppenwolf, never needed to be CGI could have just had Ciaran Hinds act the part properly.

               Over-reliance on CGI is ruining a generation of popcorn cinema. The worst example, of course, is Transformers. The way Michael Bay prison-raped the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was jaw-droppingly sad. Less is more.

      Snyder ruined JL. He turned in a shitty version that caused WB to fire him, and step up to polish his turd. Whedon was the polisher carrying out WB's direction.

      If you want to a glimpse at Snyder's shitty character development, you only need to turn to his comment on how he would remake Nolan's Batman, by letting him get raped in prison. It wasn't enough that Bruce was traumatized by his parents death. Snyder needed a rape scene (again, points to his closeted tendencies) for Batman.

      "Everyone says that about "Batman Begins." "Batman's dark." I'm like, "Okay, no, Batman's cool." He gets to go to a Tibetan monastery and be trained by ninjas. Okay? I want to do that. But he doesn't, like, get raped in prison. That could happen in my movie. If you want to talk about dark, that's how that would go."

         Prison Rape Bruce would make a terrible action figure. That is an absurd quote by Snyder but it has little bearing on the work he actually put out. Whedon was hired to carry out WB’s direction, but the direction was cowardly, corporate, and fear-based. Hate Snyder all you want but his films are good, distinctive pop art.

            I disagree it had lots of bearing on his work, which also translates as a whole to dark, dreary, angry and violent. Nolan gave us a dark world, so did Patty on WW, but they found balance. Snyder is incapable of doing that.

            I agree, WB's actions are corporate and cowardly, and it extends to many films. Just read what they did to the 2011 Green Lanterns movie which was suppose to kick off the DCEU. But to blame JL on Joss is wrong, as it was WB who wanted those changes. Joss was just carrying them out.

            Saying Snyder's films are good, is your opinion, one I disagree highly. You can look at his critical success overall and discover that he can't capture the audience like say Nolan's work.

            Edit to add: I laughed at your action figure comment. I can't even imagine what accessories would come with that. LOL

   Y'know what? I appreciate her candor. She had me when she said: “It took real effort to make Justice League this bad.”

   It certainly did. I don't care if you were called on halfway through or not. And then Whedon backing out on Batgirl after the flop saying, "Y'know what, I really didn't have a story anyway for Batgirl! I hadn't thought it through..."

   Go ahead Roxanne, make a pitch and let's see if whatever story you come up with is worth cooking up. I'm game for it.
