Rumor: Ben Affleck may be in 'Suicide Squad 2' for his last Batman appearance

Ben Affleck has one movie left on his Batman contract and has expressed interest in finding a "graceful and cool way" to exit the the role. The latest rumors suggested that he would appear in Flashpoint, however the future of that movie is up in the air after Justice League's poor performance at the box office.

One movie that's definitely happening (and just got a new producer this week) is Suicide Squad 2. According to Batman-On-Film, there's a chance that Affleck's final time as Batman will be in that movie. Affleck has worked with Suicide Squad 2 director Gavin O'Connor on 2016's The Accountant, so perhaps the two are looking to work together in the DC universe as well.

BOF doesn't seem to have a lot of confidence in their source, so take this rumor with a grain of salt for now.

Affleck won't be starring in Matt Reeves' Batman movie, as reported by Variety and backed up by the news that Reeves is meeting with potential Batman actors like Jake Gyllenhaal. But what do you think about the possibility of Affleck's last time as Batman being in Suicide Squad 2? Let me know in the comments below.

No. The movie wouldn’t be from his perspective and I don’t want that for his final appearance. I want him to be a main part of the story and I’d want him to be the protagonist.

  Also, everything that Warner Bros. has teased with the Justice League story arc is now rumoured to be getting scrapped. Darkseid's involvement in Justice League/the BvS nightmare sequence. Flashpoint. The solo Cyborg movie. And obviously the solo Batfleck movie has been in doubt for a long time. WB needs to follow through on what they promised or they might lose the support of the core fanbase!
  I have a hunch that moviegoers are tiring of constant reboots, and I don't think any subgroup of the DCEU's audience will react well to some attempt at a soft reboot. This is why people should support the "Snyder cut" movement (if you can fairly call it a "movement", LOL). If nothing else, it will send a very loud and clear message to WB, from all types of DC fans, that we don't want them to drop all their plans and pretend that none of it ever happened!

      OK, I apologise for trying to speak for other people, but apparently you are in favour of a hard reboot. Or maybe you would like Warner Bros. to quit making DC movies for the time being. I'm not sure what you want.
      But the people who are saying "Warner Bros. should drop everything and start again" are suggesting that WB throw away all of their various investments in world-building. And can WB be confident that this group of people will even watch their future movies, if they bow to its wishes by going through with a hard reboot? I mean this group seems to hate everything produced since Man of Steel. I don't think that Warner Bros. should be listening to this group of people. I think that WB should pay more attention to the group of fans who actually enjoyed their product! :-) That second group is the one that has supported the DCEU through thick and thin, and that's something that WB can still build on in the future. Some kind of Justice League director's cut (that attempts to reinsert Zack Snyder's original vision, within the confines of the allotted budget), would go a long way to keeping the loyal fanbase on side.

        If I were to be completely honest, I wouldn't want them to do hard reboot of this universe. However, I do hope they pretend BvS never happened and continue to move away from Snyder's stink. Sadly, I think Superman will never recover from the butchering of character Zack did to him until the DCU ends, but there's still hope for Batman and the others if they put out great films from now on... which will be something interesting to see with the likes of SS 2 among the next releases...
        And I agree that in relation to the investments they made so far, a reboot would be a testament to their failure, but you're kidding yourself if you think WB shouldn't be listening to the GA and instead should be catering to the minority of people who enjoy these movies. They don't throw 250 millions in a movie so it can become a cult favorite among some people on the interwebz years later, they want these movies to be consumed by everyone and give lots of $$ in return, which is something they have been failing at miserably. Good thing WW showed us not everything is lost.

    The JL upgrade was more realistic. Really liked the little plates poking out from under the top layer. Also, slimming it up a bit looked nicer, too.

      Nah, adding tiny little metal plates wouldn't give any trauma protection and would add considerable weight and bulk. Unless they were ceramic, but then they would shatter under force, so it's pretty safe to say they are metal.
      The bulked up cloth soft armor suit with metal armored gauntlets, cowl, and giant bat symbol were perfect, and pretty much reflects what the modern gunfighter wears (minus the back protection).

    I can understand his sentiment. Batfleck has pretty much been a glorified cameo or supporting character at this point. This guy wants to see him as the sole protagonist for his final role.
    In some ways, I think Snyder would have been embraced more if it was a Batsy-only film. The darker aesthetic and broody tone would fit better. No one complains about a Batman film being "too dark", but put Superman in and the game changes.

        What bothers me more is... this is his fucking job. How many people get away with performing bad at their jobs simply by saying "they've had a hard time recently"? No... Sorry, but no. Everyone needs to have a sense of professionalism, which means separating your personal life from your professional one. I truly don't care what Ben may or may not have gone through. Why? Because it's none of my business. There are millions of other people who face similar problems, yet they're not forgiven so easily. Don't expect me to feel sorry for a multi-millionaire who, if he wanted to, could afford to never work a day in his life ever again. Doesn't mean his problems aren't real or important. It means they are irrelevant when it comes to his work. Just like EVERYONE else on Earth. I've seen people go through waaaaaay worse, not get paid by the millions like Affleck, yet said people still performed their jobs adequately with no complaints. Ben has no excuse, frankly. It also doesn't help that he seems completely ungrateful and damn near regretful of ever having taken the role as Batman.

        all he wanted was to be in a superhero film that was universally praised... He just came off an Academy award for Argo when he was cast as Batman. And when you’re at the top the only place to go is down… as much as I like Batman V superman the film was divisive and has that ridiculous rotten tomatoes score... and then he witnesses first hand of the shake up of DC films as well as his own directing effort live by night bombing at the box office. Since you know so much about people then you should know that people deal with regret and failure in very different ways and some are stronger than others… And you should also know that all the money in the world cannot fix depression once it sets in… that only comes from within. if you could ask robin Williams he would tell you the same thing. It is easy for us to look from the outside in and say hey what is this guys problem? He has it all! He's never once said anything about depression. Saying that he's suffering from depression is as believable a claim as saying he doesn't suffer from it. We just don't know.         Alcoholism does not by proxy lead to depression or vise versa. Nor is one caused by the other. They do indeed go hand in hand quite often, but it doesn't have to be. Hence, there is a correlation between the two, but to suggest that there's a causation at play, is completely wrong. It's disproved by the simple fact that many people who suffer from depression and suicide, are NOT alcoholic whatsoever. I should fucking know since the people in family I referred to were NOT alcoholic, and neither was I. Heck, I've never been drunk in my entire life. You know, for a moment there... I thought you were being reasonable for once. Dare I say I almost began to think you had a capacity for reason. But nope... You just destroyed that hope for the last time.

Depression leads to drinking, not the other way around. Though again, as I said, none of the people I know of (who've committed suicide) were in any way alcoholic. From my experience, depression is caused by a true lack of purpose in life and an inability to look at yourself and know that you are enough. It's caused by the lack of happiness you grant yourself. I've never once heard or read of any case, of someone who drank a lot, and became depressed because of it. Not once.
        Certain people may want to deal with depression (caused by things other than alcohol) WITH alcohol, yes. That's not the same thing.
        But in terms of denying there's a correlation? I never did that, and you are lying yet again.

        How is saying that correlation and causation are 2 very different things, the same as denying that alcoholism "can" lead to depression? How do you even connect the dots? It's borderline retarded to even equate my statement to denial of the relevance alcoholism has to depression.
        But I am denying that if someone suffers from alcoholism, that by proxy he suffers from depression. Which would mean alcoholism is a direct causation for depression. Which is just not true. That would mean that every alcoholic is also depressed, as alcoholism "causes" depression. Except, this isn't the case. It "can" lead to depression yes, that doesn't mean it will always cause it. That is why I made the distinction between causation and correlation in the first place. Because it is far more accurate, statistically speaking, to say there's a strong correlation.         Those are certain causalities where one is directly a factor that determines the outcome. You simply CANNOT say the same thing about alcoholism.
        You cannot say that alcoholism "causes" depression. Because not every alcoholic is depressed. And we are not talking about exceptions to the rule.
        It's even disingenuous to suggest something like "depression causes suicide". Yes, it CAN cause it in certain cases (just as alcoholism CAN cause depression). But that doesn't prove that depression directly causes suicide, as not every depressed person will commit suicide. In fact, the majority of people who are depressed do not commit suicide. Obviously, the connection is strong, but to suggest there's a level of certainty about it. That there's a mathematical link, almost, like mass and gravity (F = G * m1 * m2 / r² -> proof of a DIRECT causation, where one cannot exist without the other), it's just wrong to say this is the same with alcoholism and depression. It's statistically, NOT true... So you proved nothing, as your own fucking sources used the word "connection", instead of "causation".

I'm very consistent and principled in my arguments.     Because his Live by Night movie lost them about 70 million dollars, and after WB tried to sell that they had an Oscar-winning director helming the Batman franchise, Affleck changed his mind. Leaving Joe Manganiello, Jeremy Irons, J.K. Simmons, all in limbo. It was simply a display of terrible leadership. It's okay for fans to be pissed at the guy. Affleck's f*ck up, impacted other people.
    The original plan was for Matt Reeves and Ben Affleck to work together.         For me, it's comparable to my experience with JL. There are some really great moments that I'll always love but are unfortunately suffocated by a distracting pile of huge mistakes.

        I dunno, I bought the heart of characters like Deadshot, Diablo, and Waller more than I did someone as crucial to JL as Batman (whose appearance in SS was better than anything he had in JL), and the more major players' motivations and arcs felt a lot more weighty and, frankly, bothered with at all, compared to Cyborg and Aquaman.
        That's not to say SS didn't also shaft some characters, but the ones shafted are far more forgivable, and they bothered to build up more key players in the bigger picture than JL did.
        As much as Gangsta Pimp Joker pained me, Superman hurt me worse. lol
        As for cheese, I was willing to accept SS as a different kind of movie that's a little more cheesy, so I embraced the cheese. JL had no business being as cheesy as it was, and the cheese ruined the drama there, while I don't feel it ruined SS's drama.

      Honestly I feel like JL with a Zimmer and XL score would’ve been marvelous. I’m pretty sure Supermans return would’ve been the MOS theme not that crummy 3 second Reeves score... not that the score itself is a problem but it just didn’t fit. Hopefully in the MoS sequel we will still have a Zimmer score and hopefully Zimmer changes his mind on scoring Superhero films

        I stand by everything I’ve saud, including that I’ve evidently been wrong about some things (very sadly).
        At the time Ben made that comment, I strongly felt there was no good reason to doubt it. Yet people were (and still are) making idiotic claims like that comment NOT being a claim to stay on board. It was such a claim, no doubt about it. And I still believe that now.
        However, the only thing that has changed is not me, but, to my dismay, Ben’s comments and the evidence, and now it definitely seems like he’s leaving, considering JL was not successful. And that means his claim of wanting to stay on board obviously was fake. But one can only actually see that in hindsight. Those who were accusing him of faking then did so baselessly and seemingly more so out of DESIRE than KNOWLEDGE.
        The other thing I am the first to admit I was wrong about was JL being Zack Snyder’s movie (also very sad about that, too). Even though much of the evidence and comments and things logically seemed to indicate it definitely was going to be his movie, upon seeing the movie and all of the developments that have occurred since its release, I realize it definitely was not, which is why I desperately wish we could get some kind of director’s cut. And to this day I still don’t understand what was going on when everything seemed to be suggesting it was his movie for sure.

        Even "at the time" there was no logical reason to believe anything Ben said. It was just standard PR, nothing more. Ben's "words" aren't proof. Him signing another 8 movie deal contract, THAT would be proof. Actions speak louder than words.
        Also, JL being a failure is not the reason for Ben's chance of heart. He already said he was "looking for a way out" before JL released globally. It's extremely clear that Ben wanted out after the principle photography of JL ended. Maybe even after BvS.

And he even also explained the difficulty in doing all the different jobs he was going to do with the movie and in the suit.

        He literally said he wanted to be Batman forever, and then went onto say he had no problem with Reeves directing the Batman movie, as he would even “play a chimp crawling on the ground” for him. It doesn’t get any clearer than that. Affleck was outright being dishonest / he’s a wishy washy flake.

        If you want to defend him still, I guess the only alternative possibility is that WB doesn’t want to sign him onto anymore movies, even though he still wants to play the character, but I feel like it’s more likely he wants to stop.

Meh...at this point in time, I just want them to make consistently good movies. Unfortunately for Affleck, they have to move on due to damage control. There are many other potential actors who could be great Batman's. What I really want to know is how they will go about changing Affleck in the movie, given that this is a shared universe and all, we'll see....

      Here we go again. BvS Batman only kills cars; it’s not his fault that the cars then kill the people inside them. (He didn’t know that would happen when he fired on them with a Gatling gun.) Likewise, he doesn’t kill KGBeast; he only kills his gas tank, and can’t be held responsible for what happens after that. I’m being a wise-ass but that’s exactly what you’re saying.
      I didn’t even mind his doing that, which loses me some fan points. I just think it’s silly to pretend his hands are clean.

        I've been reading a book collection of the earliest Batman comics. In the second or third story, Batman shoots a machine gun mounted on his aeroplane at some gangsters fleeing in a truck. He expresses remorse, but does it anyway.
        The bad guys are transporting a giant man (a mental patient kidnapped by Professor Strange and injected with growth hormones). After killing the gangsters, Batman drops a rope from his plane around the neck of the giant, and then dangles him until the giant dies. "He's probably better off," Batman says as he cuts the rope.
        Classic, original Batman was quite lethal. Punching people over guardrails so they'd fall to their death. Knocking them into their swords so they'd be impaled.
        This is before the Comics Code came along to make him a boyscout.

If Affleck is out, I think his replacement should be someone just playing Batman (same suite) and not Bruce Wayne. Just think of it, do an entire movie with just batsie and never have him take off is mask. Fallowing movie he can show his face if need be? We have had enough Bruce heavy movies, let him show his true self.

I had hoped when the cast was announced for SS that the Eastwood kid was going to be Grayson undercover working for Wayne infiltrating Weller's organization. Would have been a cool addition to the plot and make handing off the mantle in SS2 easier.

I'd rather have Ben stay on personally, at least for the "modern day" Batman appearances (assuming Matt Reeves' Batman movies are prequels and that's why he's looking for a younger actor). Ben looks the part, he can swap between the playboy facade and the Dark Knight Detective easily, he gives off an air of a grizzled vigilante who has been through a ton of stuff. He's almost perfect, all he needs is a great script.

If this is true then that kinda sucks, at the very least his last appearance should be a solo Batman (very unlikely i know) or Justice League 2. Still i don't think i care anyway as Affleck just looked bored in JL and his not caring mood in interviews about the role haven't helped either, yeah the films are shit but that hasn't stopped the other actors including Cavil from giving good interviews and appearing committed..

      Still don’t see the problem, and I’ve been a Batman fan for most of my life, and am preferable to dark superhero movies.
      Could he have made one or two fewer jokes? Sure. But for the most part, they seemed to fall under the dry sort of wit I would associate with the character.
      And don’t get me wrong, I was disappointed with the JOSStice League, too.

As it should be. Make The Batman movie be a prequel, cast someone like Jake Gyllenhaal and have it take place within the DCEU but technically isolated in its own world so they don't need to worry about crossovers or universe-building. Just tell an awesome story.

Just realized that Affleck has worked with Suicide Squad 2 director Gavin O'Connor before, on 2016's The Accountant. That gives this rumor a bit more weight, IMO. Perhaps Affleck will want to work with someone he has history with in his last outing as Batman.

Hope not, I don't see it as the best movie for that, less so if it isn't for a big part. If it is just for some kind of cameo it would be kind of a waste regarding his potential as the character.

At this point I don’t care anymore smh , to me he was the best Batman ever and then josh whedon happened and turned him into Adam West Batman smh rip no disrespect to Adam. What a waste to use him in Suicide Squad 2 they should use him in flashpoint and then change him at the end of the movie as a consequence of flashpoint having taken place. But this can all be bullshit for all I know cuz this article says that flashpoint won’t be made because of the performance of JL and I don’t belive that. Honestly I want Jake gyllenhal to be Batman now idk I can see him as Batman but Bruce will take a lil more convincing lol but I get the animated new 52 vibe off of him. I just hope the Batman won’t be another origin movie and hope it takes place in the DCEU continuity.
