David Goyer has no idea when fans can expect 'Green Lantern Corps' news

In January 2017 it was reported that David Goyer would write and produce Green Lantern Corps. There hasn't been a lot of information about the movie since then, but now a year later Goyer confirmed to IGN that it's "still in the works".

When asked when fans can expect some news about Green Lantern Corps, Goyer replied, "I don't know. Who knows, especially with what's currently going on with the DC universe? There's obviously a whole recalibration happening with that right now."

Goyer is probably referring to the reorganization that's going on at DC Films right now. Last week, Warner Bros. named former New Line executive Walter Hamada as the new president of DC Films.

Hopefully we get a more solid update on Green Lantern Corps sometime this year. Stay tuned to Batman News for all the latest.

On a side note , can anyone be a producer these days? Cuz WB just promoted someone that works in marketing into a producer, cuz she's a woman I'm thinking... sorry but don't producers have influence on the final product ie Kathleen Kenedy?? If so, how does someone who helps sell the film have film experience?

Also, what exactly is going on with the AT&T merger?

Producers can do so much as to completely oversee a project, or they can do as little as pitch an idea over the phone. It really depends, but they're not going to give a newbie too much influence or power, male or female.

I think this is the main problem with DC Films right now: they don't start producing. This, together with the intense scrutiny these movies get in pre, during and post make them look like they take forever to be released.

Just for the sake of a recent example, let's take a look at the progress of X Men Dark Phoenix: it was like yesterday when they announced the movie, even more recent when they announced director and writer, and without anyone noticing we already have posters and stills, and I'm quite sure they will wrap filming pretty soon. * It looks like it is wrapped

IMO, they should just produce the movies and that's it. WB has been so worried about creating something to fill their pockets instead of letting their directors do their job that they are now in a horrible crucible (and I would say it's well-deserved for what they did to JL).

It worked for Jenkins, it seems to have worked for Wan (hopefully) and it seems Sandberg is going the same way. Compare that to the movies were they got their hands on, regardless of your sympathies to Snyder or Ayer. So WB let them be and just choose one frigging producer to act as an overseer, you already have all the talent in the world to make unique movies!

The Dark Pheonix wrapped a 6 month shoot in Oct 2017 and has been in production since last Feb and isn't coming out till Nov.
You can't just start production on a film with no story. That's the DC dilemma right now. Lack of story.

  Thanks for the heads-up, but that´s the thing, Dark Phoenix has come in a smooth way that makes it seem like it was said and done. WB is just going back and forth even if they have the stories/scripts. Just look at what happened to JL Dark. They let two good directors go away because indecisiveness and now they are stuck with that movie, the same as with many others

    If it makes any difference, I don't think Dark Pheonix will be well received or popular at the box office. Which will be just fine for Disney as they reinvent the franchise.
    I am happy with what's going on at WB and DC. They deserve the downfall and repercussions.

      I agree with the part about WB and DC, not so much with the part of Dark Phoenix, not because you may or may not be right, but because I think people have forgotten about the good X Men films and just think about the bad ones, which I think is a bit unfair.
      That Disney is going to reinvent the franchise, IMO, is not as good as it may look. I just hope they don't turn the X-Men into another Guardians of the Galaxy, if you get what I mean

      I think Dark Phoenix will have a bad reception as well because that's been the pattern that the films have been in since DOFP.
      DOFP- Good reception
      Age of Apocalypse- Bad reception
      Logan- Good reception
      Dark Phoenix- ?

      I wouldn't use that argument, but I don't think it will be good either. That franchise is milked to death and it's a direct sequel to X-Men Apocalypse, which sucked. And it's from first time director Simon Kinberg. Not to mention, they've basically already told this storyline once before (The Last Stand) and I don't really like Sohpie Turner as Jean Grey. Heck, I don't even think she's a good actress to begin with. For all of these reasons, I think the movie's gonna fail. Not that it bothers me that much, because I never really cared about the X-Men franchise to begin with.
      I'd reboot the whole thing, tbh. Especially since everything went back to Marvel.

      Eh, I kinda enjoyed Apocalypse. At this point, I don't the franchise should be rebooted, at least not for a few years.

      I don't really care either way, but I think it's clear they've run out of good stories to tell. I like the idea of New Mutants being a horror film, but I think the execution is very generic (judging from the trailer). We'll see with Dark Phoenix, but I don't have high expectations.

      I see your point, but I disagree about them not having more stories to tell. After so many years they still make movies like Deadpool, Days of Future Past or Logan. That's why I said before that I think people just focus on the bad movies, when they have had more rights than wrongs if we take a look to the whole franchise. I'm not very fond of Disney acquisition to be honest.
      Anyway, it's true that we don't know if Phoenix is going to be good or bad. We will have to wait and see the outcome ;)

      I agree about Logan and Deadpool, etc... But in terms of the "main X-Men" team, I think they've run out since X-Men 3, tbh. I really liked First Class and I thought DofP was a good film (although I think it's quite overrated and flawed in many ways, but still, not a bad film at all), but I just feel like they're looking for excuses to make more of these films.
      DofP seemed like something new, but it basically was yet another "Magneto is the bad guy... Humans want to destroy them" plot we've seen a thousand times now. Apocalypse was just bad.
      As for Logan and Deadpool, I don't consider them X-Men films at all. Both are in their "separate" universe sort of thing.
      I'm mixed about the Disney deal... On the one hand, the opportunity of uniting the Avengers with the X-men is awesome, but in terms of storytelling and the movie business, the deal should cause for concern. In terms of story, despite the fact that Fox didn't always deliver, they were willing to take risks and I appreciate that immensely. Disney could NEVER have made Logan the way Fox made it. Same with Deadpool or New Mutants. Disney is too conservative. Sure, they consistently put out good movies, but none of them feel special the way a movie like Logan does.
      And in terms of business, this is just a bad thing for the entire industry. This is just one step closer to Disney's monopoly on the market, and that's nothing but a bad thing. Competition creates better products. This deal won't help anyone financially, except for those at the top of Disney and that scares me.

      Although I don't agree on your opinion about the movies, you say wise things about the Disney deal. I wish more people were as objective as you right now. I just took a look around IGN where there's an opinion article about how the Fox/Disney deal is not necessarily a good thing, and the comment section is just people crapping on the article, on the movies and on anyone who dares defend the movies one way or the other.
      In fact, one clueless guy commented that the very first two X Men movies would have been a lot better if Kevin Feige had been a producer of them. And you know what? He was! Not only for that movie, but also X Men 3 (which was sh¡t), Elektra, the two Fantastic Four movies, Blade Trinity and some more stinkers, but no, he is a god among producers and everything he touches is gold...
      I mean, yeah, as you said the MCU has put out some consistent entertainment, but how can people be so blind when regarding the MCU? They also screwed up several things that, had it been under any other brand, would have been seen as blasphemy...
      Sorry for the rant, it's just I know here I can have a better conversation than in other sites '-_-

      At the end of the day, I'd rather have healthy competition and one excellent / unique film and one bad, horrible mess of a film, than no competition and two good, albeit it generic and unoriginal films.

    The only reason it feels like that for Dark Phoenix is the fact that no one really cares about that movie coming out. I hope it’s good and all, but Apocalypse did not have a great overall reception and didn’t do very well in theaters, respectively.
    And DC hasn’t officially announced a lot of the projects that everyone says they need to start working on. Films in development go through directors and new drafts all the time. We just don’t hear about it as often from other studios or productions. They need to plug up leaks, so the internet stops freaking out, get the projects they have lined up and officially announced out and take their time developing the future of their universe. One of the problems DC suffered from was producing too much too quickly. 4 movies in 2 years and only one has positive critical acclaim.

Seriously, how many people are still excited and looking forward to any of the DCEU movies with an open mind?
I'm sure most of us, no matter what side of the debate are on, really are cautious about excitement and expectations. I know I'm very hesitant.
I honestly can't believe anything they say anymore and only actions speak in their case.

Well, I'm still excited for the possibility of seeing the DC universe develop on the big screen. Aquaman seems to be on good hands, so right now I'm looking forward to it.
If WB has learnt the lesson, they will stop meddling in their own movies and in that case I think they have enough good talent to go ahead. Let's just hope they don't do the same as with JL to the movies that are coming

  Exactly. I still hope for these upcoming movies to be good but I just can't get excited cause I know I'll be disappointed. It'll take another couple of good movies to regain trust in the studio.

WB indeed make mistakes by not firing the hack after BvS but 90 percent of blame goes to the garbage director hack snyder.Same executives worked on Dark Knight movies and Wonder Woman and wb crossed 5 billion at box office this year.
Maybe, Just maybe it is fault of someone who directed sucker punch?.....

It's on the "in development" shelf, sitting next to Goyer's Green Arrow Super Max movie.😂 The Green Lantern Easter egg in Justice League was cool. But every DC fan knows that a Green Lantern should've shown up at by the end of the movie. Justice League could've set-up the Green Lantern Corps movie. Why tease that in the Dawn of the Justice League special, if you're weren't planning on paying that off in the movie?😐

I smell WB's hand on this too, although I may be wrong. The thing is that the first of the two post-credit scenes was going to be about two Green Lanterns paying a visit to Bruce Wayne (or something along the lines).

If you read the making of the 2009 GL movie, WB execs stepped in and screwed up EVERYTHING about that movie. It should have been a paint-by-numbers foreshadowing of things to come. I have no doubt history will repeat itself, even with the new appointees at WB. It is the culture of their company, dollar signs above creative freedom. Set phasers to low expectations going forward.

JL was my most anticipated movie of all time. GLC is my second. I don't have hope anymore that WB can execute a series of consistently good DCU movies. No orthodox movie studio can. They don't understand the characters and if you don't understand the material there's no way you can make good product out of it.

I'll probably check out JL from the library when it comes out. That is THE 1st movie with Batman I never saw at the theater. I even saw the 1966 Batman at the theater. (PS After I came out of Blade Runner 2049 I had already seen the Best movie of 2017 and pretty much new that JL was going to suck).

Of course we can't expect any news. They still haven't started on the casting yet and with the way DC is behaving right now, this project is probably going to be on the shelf for a long time.
Still, why David Goyer? I have never seen him direct anything worth mentioning. The world of Green Lanterns has so much to pull from. If done right, they could even make a franchise out of it, but with him writing and directing I honestly can't let myself hope.
