More kids have joined the cast of Shazam as Billy Batson's friends from a group home. Ian Chen will play Eugene and Jovan Armand will play Pedro, Deadline reports.
Last week, IT star Jack Dylan Grazer was cast as Billy Batson's best friend Freddy Freeman. Billy Batson will be played by Asher Angel and Zachary Levi is Shazam.
Shazam will be directed by David F. Sandberg and is expected to start shooting early next year. It hits theaters in April 2019.

It's actually New Line. And I don't think they'll start the whole Captain Marvel/Shazam family in his first solo movie. It's a bad idea.
It's Hollywood, they wouldn't know a bad idea even if they spent hundreds of millions of dollars on it.

i always find it interesting how, ever since this DC debacle, people have been condemning WB as if they are some shit studio. Do people realize that WB was at the top of the box office charts this year? And it l;likely would have remained that way if not for Star Wars.
I just hope we don't get too many buddies at once. I want to care for these characters much more than I have cared about the characters of SS or JL. WB: take notes watching Stranger Things.

I didn’t mean that as a dig at Matt Reeves, although now I can see that reading. It was more a shot at the fans who are, er, “reality-averse.” Affleck is directing, writing and starring The Batman!! OK, now he’s only writing and starring in it. OK, the script has been tossed, now he’s just starring in it. And now that’s in doubt. Even so, they insist all is fine. Unless WB ‘makes an official announcement’ that The Batman is a long-ass ways away from theaters, they won’t believe it.

Eh. It's just not the Batman origin story I would've wanted. I think it'd be cool to see a show about a young Bruce leaving Gotham and training with people like Ra's al Ghul, Henri Ducard, and Zatara.
Probably not, but one can dream. In other news, it seems that we'll see Batman and a young Robin in Titans.

Not necessarily a "kids' movie." It'll be kid-friendly, sure, but it's still for longtime Captain Marvel fans.
Let's hope for a kids movie that adults also enjoy. Like Pixar (Incredibles).

If anything, this proves the DCEU is not going to be rebooted. Despite my constant criticism, I'm glad they're not scrapping everything. I hope they will learn.
I have yet to hear or read any good reason for any kind of hard reboot that includes recasting these characters.

Shouldn't it be? I mean, this is Shazam after all. Not saying it should be like Power Rangers, but Snyder-like nihilistic dark tone isn't exactly a good fit for Shazam. This movie SHOULD be lighthearted.

Regardless of whether you like Snyder or not, that's irrelevant to the fact that Snyder prefers a dark, and sometimes nihilistic tone. How in any way is that controversial, or "Snyder Bashing"? It's just being honest about his films.

Haven't seen it, but Villeneuve is by far the better director, let's be honest. And I haven't seen it, because I haven't seen the original Blade Runner. I wanted to see 2049 in theaters, but that would be kind of stupid if I hadn't seen the original.

Lol, intellectually overrated is like Snyder in a nutshell. But anyways... I don't want to talk about Snyder. What's in your opinion the best cut to start with (the first Blade Runner)? One of the biggest reasons as to why I haven't yet seen the film is because there are like a billion different cuts out there and I don't know which one I should watch. I know there's the theatrical cut, a director's cut, a Final Cut, etc. So, as someone who loved the first, which cut do you recommend the most to someone like me, who's never seen the film?

personally I think Snyder is a very smart guy and has interesting ideas, but unfortunately he has trouble expressing his ideas in a way that is appealing to everyone

I think it’s a much better idea that WB makes these movies more accessible for kids. I thought Justice League and Wonder Woman got the right tonal balance where everyone could enjoy the movie.
Wonder Woman had a great tone. Justice League's tone was a bumbling identity crisis at the cost of the story.
Very true. WW got the balance right of everything whereas JL was a clumsy attempt at repurposing a movie both narratively and tonally. However, I think it was a necessary sacrifice considering JL is a launch pad for the rest of the DCEU. People liked the characters for the most part which was the important thing for WB to achieve otherwise the rest of the DCEU would be finished.
People seem mixed on the characters from where I'm sitting, but I admit I've purposely not been seeking out opinions because of the aneurysm I expect it to inflict upon me. I'm still recovering from the BvS drama. lol
I know a lot of people seem to dig Ezra as the Flash, which I'm super grateful for. Was hoping Cyborg and Aquaman would get a popularity surge too.
Hope it has cool references to the dc films. Would like to see The question or Superman make an appearance.

A well build up and received JL movie would have earned that in less than 2 weeks.

The Paul Dini/Alex Ross JL stories felt grounded and inspiring to me. Superman: Peace on Earth is one of the best Superman comics, and it was the heart of BvS.
This is the tone Snyder pursued, but the audience was too busy whining and making shallow overreactions to petty things to see the grand, obvious tribute to the greatest samples of these characters and their stories.
Took 22 days to make as much here as The Avengers did in 3.
You can blame Johns, it was his idea to give Billy a multicultural cast of secondary characters at the beginning of the new52, and they could have been interesting characters, but nobody cared to used them for any story.
How is it Johns' fault that no one used them?
So far they have respected the look of their comics counterparts and have not made any unnecessary ethnic changes, I hope they continue that way.

I think they should stick to one superhero (Captain Marvel) for Shazam; at least for now. We need to establish some iconography before handing out powers to too many side characters.
Maybe this movie can restart the DCEU into the new DCEU or DCCU ! I mean in the 40's Captain Marvel was the shit, he was much more popuular than Superman, that would be great to see this B/C-lister now take the lead of DC Film Universe as the flagship, how ironic that would be lol !

franchise my even push Sups reboot further into the future but others deserves their chance too (Billy´s last time as a proper star was in the 70s) and next year will see a Superman toon film.
