Joss Whedon won't be at Comic-Con with 'Justice League', but I bet Zack Snyder will be

An Englishman In San Diego contributor Mark Searby was in London this past weekend and ran into none other than Joss Whedon, who is currently there to direct the Justice League reshoots.

Searby told Whedon that he was looking forward to the Justice League footage that Whedon would be bringing to San Diego Comic-Con next month, and says that Whedon replied: "I won’t be there. Only the second time in twenty years I won’t make it."

Whedon may not be able to make it, but expect Justice League to have a huge presence in Hall H at SDCC. It's the next big superhero movie from Warner Bros. and DC, after all. I'm expecting a new trailer and a panel with the cast. I'm also expecting that the original director, Zack Snyder, will be there. Let me explain why...

As you know, Snyder had to walk away from finishing Justice League after the tragic news of his daughter's passing. That happened in March and Snyder has been to big DC events since then including CinemaCon and the Chinese premiere of Wonder Woman. Last year, Snyder flew to San Diego all night from London just to make Hall H and to show off the first Justice League footage.

This year, Snyder is just a short drive away from San Diego Comic-Con. He can be back home a few hours after the DC panel. Given Snyder's love for DC and Hall H at Comic-Con, I would be very surprised if he wasn't there to personally show off the latest from the movie he's been working hard on for the past year. Comic-Con is a place for the fans, and the fans will treat Snyder like royalty. I think it'd be a really great atmosphere for him.

        So technically, I was right in saying that if you were a decent person, you wouldn't say that to him or start your post with those words.
        And sure, there might not be a "rule" on being a decent or sympathetic individual... but those very words mean
        - decency: behavior that conforms to accepted standards of morality or respectability.
        - Sympathetic: feeling, showing, or expressing sympathy. feelings of pity and sorrow for someone else's misfortune.
        So how is writing - " I've never been a fan of his work " an act of decency or sympathy? It's not, but you can keep defending yourself if you like.
        But I know that if you saw someone say, I don't like his work, but I hope he's doing okay, during a difficult time in your life, you probably wouldn't feel any better.
        The point I'm making is, whether i'm a fan of a person but not that persons work, I don't mix the two. Especially on an article that has nothing to do with his skill as a director, but more on if he would actually show up to an event due to a loss in his family. I would hope he shows up to a roaring crowd and it brings some happiness into his life, even for a moment... that's it. That is showing decency, that is being sympathetic. you don't tear someone down before picking them up. You pick them up REGARDLESS of how you feel about their professional abilities.

  Me as well, but I'm not a father, just a DC fan who really appriciates his work on this series. I never read comic books because they were "inherently silly, fun characters full of hope and optimism" as many believe ALL DC films need to be. After MoS and BvS, it's clear Snyder is genuinely a fan who see's these stories as I do: serious sci-fi adventure tales that explore the grey areas of morality, fantastical characters burdened with responsibility, and amazing artistic visuals

    Comics run the gamut in terms of tone. My favorite comics/graphic novels were the ones that most inspired Snyder and his multi-dimensional view of superheroes. Books like Kingdom Come and The Dark Knight Returns.
    He respects comics; he respects the source material. He considers them high art. Unfortunately, a lot of critics and casual movie-goers do think comics are just colorful puppet shows and therefore so should the movies.

  I didn't here anything from the videos so it must not have been that audible; also most of the people that were there and had videos on YouTube said they didn't here anything either. The only people I heard talk about it were Collider but those people are morons anyway that like to make stuff up about the DCEU to get hits.

I think it will be only Snyder and Johns. I've always had misgivings about JUSTICE LEAGUE at Comic Con. Either everyone's going to be busy with additional photography, or Joss and co are going to be knee deep in the cutting room floor.
I'm personally not even sure we'll get a trailer to be honest. It sounds like the movie is being re-worked, all hands on deck are at the pumps.

    And you're in denial. The movie is getting more than the usual re-shoots, it's getting extensive additional photography shot by Whedon, who created them in collaboration with Snyder earlier this year.
    Even if you don't believe the rumored three month shooting window, it's incredulous for you to think Whedon's current task is anything but abnormal. He's doing "additional photography". CHARLES ROVEN confirmed this.

        YES. Thank you! This was exactly what I was afraid of. That's why I've laid off on a lot of the JL stuff of late, because there's a layer of sub-human filth that use his daughter's death (again, God love Snyder and his family) as a stick to beat others over the head with.

        Reshoots=additional photography. Snyder brought Joss on board to write some additional scenes which Snyder meant to film in the summer (aka now). Snyder stepped down for the tragic reasons we all know and Whedon is directing those few scenes as well as completing the post production. If you actually paid attention to what Charles Roven (and WB) has actually said (instead of harping on terms you clearly don't know much about) you would see that he said that the work is minimal and the longer schedule is to fit all the actors into it. They are all busy as of yet, so there is the reason why it is longer. Plus Momoa just wrapped his part of it in a week. So yea. I don't know how you think Whedon directing the additional scenes is in any way, shape or form evidence that the film is in some disarray or state of flux. 'Re-worked'? GTFO. All that is is bullshit speculation from 'sources'.

Snyder's favorite composer's departure in favor for Whedon's is an indication of the shift.
        Charles Roven is one classy guy. The notion that at the very sensitive time he would say, 'Hey guess what, Whedon is doing significant AP for JL because the movie needs it' is frankly beyond parody.

        Everything is up in the air. The movie had extensive re-shoots post-BvS, and Whedon is spending 2-3 months on AP. That tells you this goes further than basic re-shoots.

        I think the short story here is, people don't like the word reshoots. Simple as that. Yes, Joss is directing some more scenes being added but the general consensus is that it's not to change the story due to negativity. It's just more scenes to add to the awesomeness of what Zack has already filmed. The End.

        With respect, what people like or not is irrelevant. It's about the reality. Re-shoots and additional photography are quite distinct processes. Re-shoots did take place during principal photography. The post-BvS course correction when Snyder's role wound down while Affleck was elevated saw re-shoots on the fly as the script was being re-worked.
        What we have now is additional photography under the helm of Whedon. As tragic as the circumstances were that caused Snyder to leave, Whedon's task has been a lot more than just scheduled pick ups. There's significant additional photography.

I'm not sure about Zack though that atmosphere will definitely lift up his spirit a bit in this terrible and sad time of grieve.

I honestly don't know what to believe in terms of who will be there or not. But it'd be super nice if Zack could show up. I imagine HALL H giving him and extremely warm welcome despite how some fans might feel about his films in the DCEU. Also I just can't imagine anyone else introducing us to some footage of Justice League.
Also James Wan BEST be showing up with some Aquaman footage and an image of Black Manta and he BEST come correct lolol.

Honestly, as awesome as it would be for him to show up, I would never bet on it. Nor would I expect him to be there. He's right where he needs to be, with his family. Joss can handle the reins from here and he's going to be busy. If there's anything from JL to be shown, it'll likely be Geoff Johns that shows it.

No way. After getting booed last year. What's he going to do, talk about a movie that isn't his anymore? I doubt he's even being consulted. I gurantee this is a clean break so that he can focus entirely on his family and not worry at all about the film. It'll be Geoff Johns. Doubt any cast will be free considering they're either shooting JL or their own thing (trying to get them in for reshoots was hard enough). You might have one or two. Plus Patty and Gal might come along and thank everyone for watching WW

So is Superman finally going to have a personality? Is anyone going to ask him why he flew through buildings instead of around them? Why did he make out with Lois on top of thousands of screaming victims? Does he think that threatening the military was stupid? Why has he never heard of Arkham Asylum or a Bat fighting day glo criminals for 20 years? Zack Snyder created the dumbest version ever committed to celluloid.

  2. He didn't intentionally fly through any buildings, he was thrown into them by Zod and Faora. You ever been in a fight with a superpowered being who can fly? No?

  These are stupid questions, I honestly don't think you've actually watched BvS or Man of Steel. You're probably within the vicinity of a screen that's playing the movies but I dont think you're actually watching.

He deserves a standing ovation, so i do hope that he will show up for at least that.
Geoff Johns is someone i 100% expect to see, in at least the comic section. You don´t release a Watchmen pseudo sequel and don´t make the biggest event possible out of it. Even mainstream media will pick that up.
