Kiersey Clemons to star as Iris West in 'The Flash'

The Flash director Rick Famuyiwa got his pick! Earlier this month we learned that Kiersey Clemons was the director's first choice to play Iris West in The Flash, and today Variety is reporting that it's a done deal.

Clemons will star opposite Ezra Miller as Iris West, the tough-as-nails journalist and friend of Barry Allen, the Flash’s alter ego. Clemons previously worked with director Rick Famuyiwa in his breakout hit Dope.

The Flash is scheduled to hit theaters in March 2018. Let me know what you think of Clemons as Iris West in the comments below!

I don't care if Iris is white, black, yellow or whatever. As long as she acts good and have good chemistry with Ezra Miller is a great choice.

  I would love to see an actual romantic connection, a timeless love, as in the comics. Not being told by a voiceover and be drowned in shipping as with CW. That show is great but the romantic elements never work.

I'm happy to see a black lady for Iris role. A good thing is that Iris from the tv show is also a black lady, so people won't be disturbed (I think... I hope).

  I think he meant that, thanks to the show, there's a president for Iris being black. So people wont freak out like they did with human torch

    Thank you Jimmy Williamson, it's exactly what I meant. A lot a people complain when some detail is different from what they've seen before, but here people won't ask why Iris is black thanks to the tv show. The thing I didn't like in fantastic four is not that Johnny Storm is black, but the fact Susan Storm is white: we don't need to justify a black male actor by adding a white lady who has been "adopted", put a young black lady instead it will be fine.

  I think people who never read a comic know of iris as being black from the show. So CW fans won't be disturbed. I'm black and never though the west should be black in the first place. Changing the race of well established characters is more insulting and patronizing than anything else. Its a lazy way to introduce diversity, and save yourself from creating good well fleshed out characters from the ground up.

        I do. What's wrong with two different black women? Any criticism with the skill of an actor is understandable, but when their color is solely given for the criticism of the choice, that is a problem.

        For fuck sake, you don't have to read in between the lines - the clear question is there, right in front of you...

        Because the comics from the 20's, 30's, 40's, and 50's where these characters were created were created in a racist landscape that didn't involve minority characters within the comics. They need to be updated. I can see if they went and changed Superman to some buff black dude, but Iris is a love interest at best and not even iconic.

        But simply updating characters just to appeal any color of skin - that's wrong.
        And that's the problem. Not a solution.
        Solution is diversity of characters. Making new ones.
        Here, you mentioned Superman. In comics you already have black Superman.
        Now they created an Asian Superman. And Asian Justice League.
        And if they want to implement those characters into movies - sign me on.
        Just give them good stories and do them justice.
        They don't have to change almost 80 year old character just to appeal someones color of skin.
        Instead - make new character.
        Same thing with Cyborg. Don't change original and give me Caucasian Cyborg.
        Create a new character, like Grid from Crime Syndicate, and make him whichever color and gender and sexual orientation. More the merrier. Win-Win.
        That's the solution. Not this silent racism we're facing nowadays.
        And by the way - I'm no Caucasian.

        They didn't change the race to change it. They brought in white actresses, latina actresses, and black actresses and Kiersey beat them. They literally chose the best person for th erole.

        I'm black and agree with you. As a person of African decent, changing the race of a character to purposely appeal to me, is more racist than making Egyptians, Moors, Berbers white in films.

Ohh god, people with their preferences of the character -_-'. Who cares man. The Flash is my favorite superhero and i don't even care if Iris West is white or black, as long she can play the character then i'm fine with it.

  She was great in Dope, so I suggest you watch that movie because it's cool AF and you can check this girl out. She was a highlight of Neighbors 2 but I didn't like the movie so much. Anyway my only problem was that she looks very young to be credible as a reporter but they already have a serious reporter girlfriend for a JL member(I think it's part of the reason they chose a black actress so they don't all have basically the same girlfriend) So, my guess is, since the target audience for The Flash seems to skew younger they're going to have Iris be a reporter for some online media outlet, and I think that's a great idea, it fits the character and the kind of movie they want and I bet she has great chemistry with Ezra Miller based on what I've seen from both

I'm black, but I like my Wally west to be white. I thought after they brought back Wally in the comics, they would follow suit in the films. but nope, The DCEU is truly the New 52. That everybody hated and DC rebooted again. So why is this universe continuing the New 52 trend?

Lol are we just pretending Iris is black now. I'm sure she's great and will do a good job, but I would have liked to see someone who actually looks like Iris, just like I would like to see them at least dye Ezra's hair blonde.
