Man of Steel's Henry Cavill thinks a Batman/Superman movie would make a "great story"

Man of Steel is just a few weeks away and from early buzz it sounds like Warner Bros. is going to have a hit on their hands. If it's a success it could pave the way for future DC Comics heroes and help set up the Justice League movie the studio has been wanting for years.

SFX caught up with Henry Cavill, who plays Superman in Man of Steel, and asked what he thinks about a Batman/Superman team-up movie:

I think it would be really interesting with the age-old Batman/Superman conflict, because they are two different sides of the same coin and their methods are entirely different. And I think it would actually make for an interesting story as to why, first of all, they were going head to head and how. I think that would make a great story.

When asked if a partnership with Batman could be the next thing he does as Superman on the big screen, Cavill replied:

Who knows. I’m sure there’s all sorts of ideas being thrown around at Warner Bros right now.

We know that Warner Bros. tried to make this happen. Earlier this year they approached Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale but they weren't able to get a deal signed. I just say one think: wait for SDCC this year. If Man of Steel goes weel as we think we'll do, something BIG will be annouced there. And i dont care if 'Justice League' or 'World's Finest' happen first, i just want to see both happening.

I'm watching all the other Superman movies again before this one. Last night I watched Superman the Movie. Despite seeing it 300 times I just now noticed....why the hell is the Statue of Liberty in Metropolis??

At the end he saves all kinds of people but Lois dies, So he reverses time and saves Lois. But time went backwards for everybody else and it doesn't show that he went back to save them. So am I to believe that he let California fall into the ocean and millions of people die just to save the ugliet Lois in history?

I think WB should really work on doing high quality movies with questioning the very sense of superheroes like they did with Batman and probably with Superman and keep it for next movies. That way, they would really stand out from Marvel's movies which are just massive entertainment, battles, sfx and cool dudes fighting evil. Fewer movies but with higher quality will be remembered far more than Marvel's stuff.

I think they should do a solo Batman film after man of steel to introduce the new batman then do Batman/Superman team up movie, then Man of Steel 2, Batman 2, Justice League, Man of Steel 3, Batman 3, Then Finish it with Justice League 2 and 3, and Maybe mix Batman/Superman team up 2 and 3 inbetween some of those.

so basically like this:

You know what I really don't get about the "they have to build to Justice League" theory?
X-Men.
X-Men came out and it was just a team movie. The X-Men were nowhere near as mainstream as the members of the Justice League are, yet NOBODY watched X-Men and said "I don't know what's going on!!!! Who are these people???" They didn't need to do a Cyclops movie or a Magneto movie or a Storm movie or a Jean Grey movie. They introduced everybody in the movie and everybody understood exactly who everybody was and what they did.
You don't need to waste 10 years of making other movies to make a Justice League movie. All you have to do is make a GOOD Justice League movie.

  Ahhh thank you! Somebody who speaks sense. New 52 Justice League accepted that the characters were new to each other, and they should do that for the audience. For the fans, we know who the characters are! for the not fans, they get to learn about the chracters motives as the film progresses :)

I don't want to sound too much like a comic book nerd or nothing, or like I have too much time on my hands or anything, but here's a rough plan I've been thinking of too much.

Follow up Man of Steel with World's Finest where the villain is Brainiac. He shows up in Metropolis first where Superman fails to stop him from doing whatever it is he's doing. He then moves on to Gotham and Superman follows. Batman shows up during one of their fights and Brainiac retreats. Superman says something about hearing rumors of Batman but thought he was just a myth. Batman is all I ain't no myth, get out of my city and such. They don't get along at first but eventually realize they need each other to stop Brainiac.

But then at the end, it is revealed that this was not actually Brainiac, only one of his robots that he sent ahead to scout the planet for his invasion. The same way he invaded Krypton and caused the planet's destruction!!! WHOA! DUH DUH DUH. The movie ends with the real Brainiac arriving on Earth with Bats and Supes looking up at his big old school crazy skull spaceship breaking through the atmosphere. They look at each other and say we're gonna need a bigger boat, TO BE CONTINUED, Huey Lewis music plays.

As for the other characters. Superman is a reporter, he works in a newsroom. Use this to set up the new characters. Show him and other reporters watching footage of Green Lantern on the news. Show a newspaper with the headline "Who is the scarlet speedster?" with a grainy picture of the Flash running by. Etc.

(Also, maybe bring in the Green Arrow guy from the TV show? That would be a pretty cool idea I think. The big budget of the movie would be able to make him a better suit, gadgets and sets the show can't afford which they could then start re-using since they were made by the movie production. It would add somebody who would be fairly well known. It would make the show more interesting if it's connected to the bigger picture. And this could be the way to switch him from being "The Hood" to the full on Green Arrow superhero.)

Then the JLA movie comes up next with Superman, Batman, Flash and Green Lantern, and maybe Green Arrow, taking on the real Brainiac and things are crazy. Huge battles laying waste to everything. Interspersed through all this we see scenes of Diana on Paradise Island watching the destruction going on. She pleads with the other Amazons to go help but they refuse because men suck. Midway through the movie she has enough, leaves the island and shows up to help the JLA at some crucial juncture and TA DA now we got Wonder Woman. The JLA beats Brainiac, and during the battle Superman discovers and rescues the bottled city of Kandor as Brainiac's ship is destoyed. At the end of the movie we see a teaser where strange creatures and artifacts from Brainiac's crashed shipped are being picked up by people and loaded into a Lexcorp truck.

Man of Steel 2 - Doomsday. Lex Luthor enters the picture. One of the creatures he pulled out of the crashed ship was Doomsday who he manipulates into going after Superman. I figure Superman gets beat to the point that he loses his powers or something, I don't think him dying and coming back to life would work in live action. That was lame enough in the comic. And killing him in the second movie seems a bit soon.

JLA 2 - The JLA takes on Doomsday. Things do not go well. It looks like the JLA is going to lose and then Earth will be decimated by Doomsday. Luthor reluctantly helps Superman to regain his powers in order to save the planet. At the end, Batman, being the smart one, figures out that Luthor was actually behind Doomsday all along. They go after Luthor and find the tech he stole from Brainiac which includes a way to restore Kandor.

Man of Steel 3 - The Rise of Kandor or some crap. Superman un-shrinks Kandor and places it on the moon where they start to build New Krypton. The world freaks out at having all these people with superpowers, including Bruce who starts planning on how to stop the Kryptonians if the need arises. Superman tries to get the world to trust them, Lex Luthor is manipulating in the shadows to turn people against them. He eventually succeeds.

JLA 3 - War of the Supermen. Earth and New Krypton go to war. Superman continues trying to broker peace, Batman is all noooo way, these people cray cray, we gotta stop these Kryptonian dudes. Maybe a desperate Batman ends up turning to Luthor for help in stopping the Krypton invasion. The JLA splinters. Batman ends up stealing the tech from Superman's Fortress and re-shrinks Kandor. Leading to....

Batman vs Superman. As you can tell I'm thinking less and less with each movie so I don't know how this exactly happens so just go with it. But while the JLA is broken up and the heroes are fighting amongst themselves, Luthor starts putting together his own league. They pull some kind of epic shenanigans at the end forcing Batman and Superman to cut the mularky and regroup the JLA.

JLA 4 - Legion of Doom...or The Society if we want to be less cartoony. The JLA gets back together to take on Luthor's team of him, Brainiac, a new Joker and whatever villains have shown up in Flash and Wonder Woman's solo movies I imagine have been also going on here and there in the midst of all this.

I ran out of steam.

And he goes to Batman and Superman because he doesn't want to wear the helmet again but he wants to fight evil just like them.)
Maybe Teen Titans (Maybe Dick has become Nightwing after severe training from both Batman and Superman, and then some training with Aquaman and Wonder Woman, and he goes to Bludhaven/NYC/Chicago and there he meets all these guys, maybe Cyborg of the JL decides to join them?)

I'd go for quality over quantity instead. Heck, skip the batman movies. We all know who batman is already and a little mystery really suits The Batman.
I like the idea of calling the next supes movie 'Man of Tomorrow' though. Then the third film they can throwback and just call it 'Superman'.
A green arrow/ black canary movie could be a lot of fun too. I have been wishing Marvel would do a Hawkeye movie. Renner is the best actor they've got for The Avengers and he is woefully underused.
I just can't see a solo Aquaman movie pulling in big audiences. Flash maybe.

  For Aquaman, everyone will think he's a joke, but all you have to do is adapt the Aquaman from the New 52, so the opening shot of the first movie is him in the diner, everyone's like omg, it's Aquaman, and then he orders fish & chips, and everyone goes, you can't eat fish, their your friends, and he gets pissed. And then these two morons go, hey Aquaman, how does it feel to know that you're no ones favourite superhero, and then Aquaman goes badass mode and pulls out his awesome 5-pronged Trident, and just goes, something like "Bro, I'm the King of Atlantis, that means I own 75% of the planet. I do what I do because I want to help those in need, I mean, when it comes to strength I'm about as strong as Superman or Green Lantern. Besides, you two aren't even smart enough to be able to choose your favourite superhero. By the way, this Trident used to belong to Neptune, like the actual god." And then he turns around and gets up to leave and then says, "I'll take that fish and chips to go please!" And then his wife, Mera, walks in, and he turns around and says, "I also have a hotter wife than you'll ever have! And then Mera just says some more badass stuff cuz she's a badass too, and then she goes, "Make that two orders of fish and chips to go!"

    Wow... I felt like reading the new 52 Aquaman before I read this. XD
    But even if the movie was awesome I feel like it still would flop. Probably better off introducing him in another movie, if they introduce him at all.

One thing we all forget when coming up with our plans and lists is the Justice League Dark movie. It seems like, at this point, this one is going to end up coming out before the JLA hits (seeing as how it actually has important things like a director and a writer and stuff like that). I wonder where it fits in the bigger scheme of things, if it's part of the coming connected universe.
I'm actually more excited about Dark than I am a regular JLA movie because it's characters I never thought I'd see in a major movie. We know we're EVENTUALLY going to get another a Wonder Woman and Flash and more Superman and Batman movies. But seeing characters like Deadman, Etrigan, The Spectre and Zatanna in a movie sounds awesome.

  I totally forgot about JLD, the last I'd heard of it was months ago under the name "Dark Universe". Hopefully we do get this movie soon! I've loved Doctor Fate since Young Justice, and ever since Earth 2 (New 52) and Flashpoint (Dick Grayson as Doctor Fate? Awesome!) he's really moved up my ladder of my favourite superheroes!

Uhm if we all know David Goyer & Christopher Nolan's input into the Superman franchise, I'm pretty sure the trilogy will be something like this..
1. Man of Steel = General Zod, Foara, Jax-Ur
2. Son of Krypton = Lex Luthor/Metallo
3. Man of Tomorrow = Doomsday + some other villain (years after Justice League's Darkseid)

Make a Justice League movie, no point making a WF with an unknown batman you can do that after JL. Bring back Reynolds for Green Lantern, he is still salvageable . Spinoff the other heroes into their own movies after JL. Use JL to market the other heroes. Dont continue Nolans batman and reboot batman based off the arkham games. Give me the brilliant detective mind of batman who knows how to fight and invent his own gadgets.

Tonight I watched Superman 2 - The Richard Donner cut for the first time. Lucky for me there's now TWO versions of Superman 2 I hate.

The whole time reverse thing was supposed to be the end of part 2 originally before it got moved to part one. The Donner cut restores that ending and it makes even less sense than the first movie. He kills Zod, Ursa and Non but decides to reverse time in order to wipe Lois' memory of finding out he's Clark. Basically he has to reverse time back to the very start of the movie meaning the entire movie never actually happened. But for some reason reversing time does NOT undo killing the villains. WHICH MAKES NO SENSE WHATSOEVER. Plus the characters all kinda sorta remember that something happened but if time was reversed how could they have any memory of something they haven't lived through? AHHHH!!!

I think what's interesting about these movies is how campy they are. Because when Richard Donner came on board to direct he tossed out the entire 500 page script Mario Puzo wrote and didn't use a word of it because he said it was TOO CAMPY. Yet the movie he did is campy as hell!!! I would LOVE to find the original Puzo script and read it. It apparently featured a cameo by Teddy Savalas as Kojak. But every script I find that says it's the Puzo one is the shooting script that Puzo didn't write because everybody is confused since Puzo still got credit for it.

I really don't know why this is a story. If you asked someone "how awesome would it be to win the lottery?" and they answer "yeah that'd be pretty awesome" Would you write an article that said "Random Guy would LOVE to win the lottery"
This is absolutely no indication that the movie could even happen, it's just the actor responding to a question with a "yeah that would be cool"

i was thinking a cool plot for a World's Finest movie would take place after the Dark Knight and man of steel where would be the return of Ra's Al Ghul trying to steal Superman's body using Poison Ivy and when that is foiled by Batman he decides to clone Superman and gets Bizarro (think that happened in the Trinity comic by Matt Wagner)

The Dark Knight Returns and kills Superman, with help from the Green Arrow that shoots Superman with an arrow made of Kryptonite and The Dark Knight finishes it with an awesome beating to The Man of Steel. That's how the story should go. Sound familiar anyone?

tHEN CAVILL IS CONSUMED WITH MONEY AND HAS NO RESPECT FOR THE REST OF THE JUSTICE LEAGUE MEMBERS. Superman and Batman need not be paired together, they have name recognition. even worse is the theme is a big battle between the two, and worse than that is the posibility of Batman beatign Superman, when it is clear the only human with a weapon with enough strength to take down Superman is Green lantern, and maybe Flash, either way Batman is not either and no where near equipped with enough to take down Supes...
