More evidence that 'The Dark Knight Rises' director's cut isn't planned, doesn't exist

It looks like we can finally put that crazy rumor about a director's cut of The Dark Knight Rises to rest! If you didn't trust Batman-News.com's sources when I told you that a director's cut wasn't happening, perhaps you'll believe The Playlist's. The website reports that they spoke to insiders close to Christopher Nolan about this rumor, and they confirmed that "no such plans exist, and reports of an extended cut of the film are completely false."

The Playlist also points us to an interview Nolan did with MTV this summer, which adds more confirmation that director's cuts aren't his thing:

Really, anyone listening to Nolan, who's never included many deleted scenes on his home video releases, would have known that the chances were very slim -- Nolan told MTV shortly after the release of "The Dark Knight Rises" that "I tend to try and weed things out on paper because it's crazy expensive to shoot things that aren't going to be in the film. It also takes up a lot of time and energy. Pretty much with all my films, there are very few deleted scenes, which always disappoints the DVD crowd."

So there you have it. Hopefully we can finally put this rumor to bed now. I'm looking forward to reporting on all the official The Dark Knight Rises Blu-ray/DVD news -- look for that in the coming months!

A guy can still dream. I dont know why Warner Bros. doesnt release the movie next june with the few scenes that didnt make it in the movie (Banes training, why he needs the mask and belt, alfreds whole speech, the tumblr going up the steps, The whole Foley death scene when he gets run over bc apparently it was a pretty big stunt, and there could be more...) They would make alot of money off of that. I personally think they will do it at some point

Never mingled in this discussion, but here is my input:

I think chances of us getting to see the deleted scenes are slim. Nolan's trackrecord shows us he didn't put anything out.
But perhaps (and i'm just speculating) it's "normal" these days to bring out a "deluxe/special edition" boxset containing all movies which will include all the deleted scenes.

Lets not forget, this director also said he would never put Robin in his movies... Or change Bane's voice.

We know for sure that there are SEVERAL scenes that were not included in the film, so, if they dont release an extended cut, they almost for certain have to include them all the deleted scenes, if they not, well that its just a bad move in part of Nolan, because its not a problem to put them in the dvd or blu ray, and i am a fan of his but if he dont release that its just stupid and pretentious

I read December 12th a while ago, but don't ask me where I got that from or how credible it is. I would say its pretty close since I think the Dark Knight was also around then. They'd want it out just before Christmas for sure.

Additional footage is not need necessary... the film is great in the way it was presented in July....deleted scenes is a practice in cinema that is not always a good thing... why you need to shoot more things than it would be on the screen? Is a waste of money. Only in movies like Blade runner or Avatar, it really works, otherwise I think is only to make more money in the dvd and bluray releases

This doesn't surprise me, there is still unreleased footage from the superman movies that involved Christopher Reeve. Do you remember how long it took to release the Richard Donner cut.

I love Nolan movies but....kind of a dick move(considering we have been teased by all the stories) but I knew it from the beginning it was not gonna happen. I am still a Nolan fan, but what will happen to all that unused footage???? It is sad to see it go to waste.

First of all there´s not that much footage, that´s one of the reason why Nolan, being so methodical wraps up his movies under budget, he knows what he wants and if i´m sure he cut off the Bane scene not to spoil the Talia twist. Personally i don´t need to see it, i can imagine that scene taking place with the elements we know from the League of Shadows lair in Batman Begins...
Also any aditional Joker footage from TDK will never see the light of day while Nolan is around, he believes it would be disrespectful, which I totally disagree; in fact it was a stupid decision not to even mention The Joker in TDKR when he was such an important piece of why Batman´s retired but that is a matter for another discussion...

  I don't expect unused footage, but some extras like behind the scenes, constructing characters, actors interviews, etc. I wanted so bad to see more Two-face and Joker material from TDK extras, like make up tests and stuff. But you know, i bit the dust! LOL
  But hey, maybe in a forthcoming bat-trilogy deluxe box set will contain more stuff! Wouldn't be bad, huh?

    Hey bro how are things ? Hope all is good on your side of the world , my opinion on this is and it probaly just is my opinion but for a while now i have avoided Blu-Ray bells and whistles dont get me wrong back in my younger days i loved seeing behind the scenes and all that extra stuff but these days that stuff does not appeal to me as much , i prefer to just see the movie and leave all the whys and how s a mystery , just my opinion ..

    Yeah i am expecting the behind-the-scenes material but rather than that...
    Maybe in the future although I was expecting WB would release something special for the 20 th anniversary of Batman 89 and... tcharan, nothing. :(

all I ever wanted is the "prologue" Bane voice as originally intended by the artist Nolan included on the Blu-Ray. The rest of the special features are details.

I loved this movie, and I love the work of Nolan. But I can't help but feel that this final film deserves to be the exception to the rule. In truth, the tragedy this summer completely robbed this film of its chance to stand in the spotlight and be fully enjoyed without having some specter overshadowing it. And for a final film that feels like its story could have filled two movies, it does raise questions when we know the limitation of the IMAX reel being 2:45 min, production crew commenting on scenes and backstory shot, shots we've seen in trailers but are no where to be found in the movie. I'm not suggesting that it would have to be edited back in or even change the narrative, but there are elements that feel clunky, huge jumps in the story, with such an over arching scope that he was going for, it does feel some things got short changed. And at least for me to have such a great opposing character like Bane, the anti batman....I feel like I didn't get enough of him. And it's not about screen time, but about giving the audience more and more reason to be compelled by such a character. The joker was giving the chance to be a mystery and enigma, he was built up in our minds as character....even in a great scene where Michael Caine explains maybe this is a man you don't fully understand, some men want to watch the world burn. In this film it felt like with so much being put in , that we weren't really given more of that kind of mythos building moments. I know Caine steps into the cave and gives a brief description to Bale, but it did feel rushed, and maybe that alternate take of Caine explaining the gravity of who and what Bane is would have changed that. Again I love the movie , I just would have liked the opportunity to view these moments even as separate supplementals. And it does bother me when Nolan says he won't redub dialogue, then yet clearly goes and does it. I guess if there was a limitation to begin with, the 2:45 min mark, that sort of dictates what you can do with your edit. And it may not be the full edit you would want, but your forced to cut here and there by that limitation. So I don't know I would ever accept , that yes, this is my final vision. Your handicapped from the beginning.....I love the dark knight rises, I feel it deserved more. Oh well I guess. Just my opinion.

I'd be gutted if they don't include deleted scenes for TDKR. They left out some pretty important info, such as Bane's origin and how he needed the mask", and it'd undoubtedly be a good money spinner for WB if they did it. Surely the company can override Nolan's wish not to include any deleted scenes? I get that they might not want to piss him off, what with Nolan producing the Superman film, but at this point I'll take the deleted scenes over Nolan's happiness with how WB acts.

I can't see why Nolan won't allow them to release a directors cut, or at the very least include some kind of deleted scenes section. I'd understand it if those scenes were cut because he didn't like them, no director wants to be judged on work they themselves don't really like, but that isn't the case as several scenes were cut from the film simply due to Nolan wanting to film in IMAX.

Chris, do you really think that Nolan is such an efficient director that when IMAX restricts movies to be 2:45, Nolan PERFECTLY shot exactly 2:45 of footage. I'm sorry but that is extremely unlikely. Plus if you read the screenplay you would know ALOT of dialogue was snipped out, and shots from the trailers were NOT in the finished film. Why would Nolan tease us with this footage? Because he and WB had already decided a Directors Cut of the film would be necessary. Thats why alot of stuff from the trailers was shown but not in the finished product. I believe Nolan always knew he was going to make a DC of this film. There is literally NO reason to keep this extra footage and dialogue from the fan base. Just because Nolan doesn't usually have DC does not mean he won't ever. Thats just a stupid way to view things. Do you know how much money they could make with a DC? If they don't do one than thats just a dumb business move, and while I love Nolan I have to admit, if he doesn't give his fans this extra footage that WE KNOW exists then thats pretty rude and I don't think he is that full of himself.

Nearly all movie trailers feature unused footage that doesn't make the actual film. It's common practice. It doesn't mean Nolan was planning on having a director's cut.

It's been confirmed by the screenplay and the costume designer that there are multiple scenes that have been cut from the film. This isn't like tiny scenes like the one with Joker on the bus. These scenes have action and dialogue. I dont understand why Nolan would keep that from his fan base just because he doesn't like directors cuts or deleted scenes. I dont think hes as pretentious as everyone is making him out to be.

  As the guy says it's highly unlikely that Nolan shot the film perfectly at 2:45 to fit IMAX. In fact we know he didn't just shoot 2:45 of footage because a member of the film crew not long ago came out and discussed what sounds like a lengthy scene with Bane which didn't make the final cut.
  Again, we aren't talking about just a couple of seconds of footage or certain shots that were used in the trailer not making the full cut. We're talking about whole scenes, minutes long and with substantial amounts of dialogue and relevance to the story, being missing from the final cut due to IMAX restrictions.

Well that only confirms it. He has created scenes (which we all know) which if it doesnt happen will be a waste. Something he dislikes. He also cut the movie down to fill IMAX maximum spec of 164 minutes something he never never done before. Being 90th year annivesary of Warner me thinks or hoping a suprise is in order.
