Last night Gary Oldman was on Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about The Dark Knight Rises and they showed the first clip from the movie. In this scene we see Commissioner Gordon and officer John Blake meeting for the first time. Check out the clip above, I've embedded Gary Oldman's full interview after the break. Acting felt a bit soap operaish here, is that just me? Maybe it's the writing

kind of agree, I always thought that rooftop scene from TDK with Gordon, Dent, and Batman was a bit cheesy too - just seemed like I was watching 3 actors rehearse their lines while a camera circled them

Even I agree but if Nolan & these finest actors couldn't make it more natural then probably no one can.

Yeah I agree about the rooftop scene from The Dark Knight as well! I thought I was the only one. I don't think it was the writing, I think it was more the acting. Gary Oldman was great in the movie, but Aaron Eckhart had a couple bad acting moments I thought, such as when he was on the roof with Gordon and when he was speaking to Gordon in his little office. This Dark Knight Rises rooftop scene never struck me as cheesy or soap opera-ish, though. Sounded fine to me.

Aaron Eckhart isn't the greatest actor, either. It's not the acting, but the lines. Those are cheesy lines. However, you have to have a little cheese, I guess. Let's just hope that there is not too much.

If we look back in retrospective this trilogy has its share of cheesy lines and even those weren´t capable of ruin the films, that´s how good they are...

I didn't find anything cheesy about the writing in that scene, personally. I think it was the combination of Eckhart's acting and Oldman's accent that accidentally slipped that made the scene seem staged. If you eliminated the accent and for instance took another great actor and gave him Aaron Eckhart's role in that scene, such as Leonardo Dicaprio, or anybody else you can think of, I don't think the scene would be weird at all. I think the scene is unnatural, not cheesy.

I thought the cheesiest thing from TDK was the courtroom scene. God! I cringe every time! It seemed so staged. "You should have bought American." *facepalm* Now, as far as this scene with Blake and Gordon goes, maybe it seems staged because of how short the clip is. Perhaps put together it will look better :)

The acting and writing were fine. Not cheesy at all. Maybe a little...unnatural. But nothing cheesy. The only very cheesy scene in TDK was the courtroom scene and some of the humor was cheesy. Hmm...Cheese.

That TDK rooftop scene was taken from The Long Halloween graphic novel.

I don't agree.

Neither do I.

The writing's fine. Sounds like something from a comic book. I think it will blend along with the movie nicely though, it's just when you dissect it that it doesn't work.

That's how I felt about the prologue. Cheesy dialogue.

Soap opera? Are you nuts? Pick up your sanity again, man!

it's bizarre to see that they didn't bother to gut out all the smashed-in pieces of the Bat-signal...untouched and practically left it all there to figuratively rot for 8 years. Also, word that came out from early screening reactions is that John Blake's really going to be a very important character in the film, not that it surprises me based on released materials.

But Gordon knows what batman really is, a hero, and maybe its possible that he didn't wan't the broken bat signal gone. It is his building, isn't it? (I am not completely sure if he is, but he is, nonetheless, the authority there)

Yeah it's weird seeing Gordon being kinda warm and fuzzy. His voice sounds different too.

He's older and weary... Makes sense. I thought the same thing.

Well, it is 8 years later, after all

Gary Oldman is such an awesome gentleman. And that clip of TDKR... I was thinking "ohhhh so heeeee knowss!!" then he says what he says :teehee:
I am listening to background music and it fit well into this scene. Nine days left and when I do see this movie, I am hoping that the people can feel that they are there instead of getting up every moment for something. Just sit there quietly and witness end of era to this great movie because once it end and something else begins and it not going to be like this Dark Knight series but different.
I'm starting to think that Batman doesn't die (people may have known this for awhile, I don't) that or Kimmel is playing coy...
Did anyone else notice that on the broken bat signal, one of the bat's wings was still attached to the edge of the searchlight? At the end of TDK, the entire bat is removed and falls into the searchlight. Just thought I'd point that out.

8 yeras have passed. Gordon may have gone to roof so many times!
I don´t see the wing attached to the edge of the searchlight.
Maybe Gordon or someone else grabbed bat at some point during those years and left it like that, as we can see it in the clip. Jejejejejje, just thinking!0 likes
i love him, he's the best.
Gary Oldman, what a guy! In the next reboot he should be playing Alfred! ;)
Nope. Nope. Not reading the comments. No clips for me. Nope.
Gordon knows who Batman is...or does he?

Good question. I think it's indifferent for him.

he kinda knows, in TDK he questioned bruce after having stopped the truck that hit the car in which Mr. Reese was being transported. Although bruce said he just passed a red light gordon thought it was something more. Maybe he knows but prefers letting bruce do his thing.
Maybe, but then Bruce threw him completely off the trail by asking if he should go to a hospital. "You don't watch a lot of TV, do you Mr. Wayne?" The way Gordon delivered that line implies that Gordon thinks Bruce Wayne doesn't have much depth.

Wow I am torn. I think for the first time ever I am NOT going to watch something released for promotional purposes. Interviews and trailers are fine because they give nothing away, but a whole clip is just to much for me on a movie I have been waiting for so long to come out. Any other film I would have watched but not this one. I want it to be fresh. Hope you all enjoyed the scene though!

You can watch it. It's just small talk about the night Batman escaped in TDK.

Lol I know it won't be spoilerish but I still want full clips to be saved for the midnight showing! I have waited so long that I just want everything to be new and fresh at this point. Interviews and tv spots are fine, heck I'll watch them immediately when I see them! But I've told myself no on clips. Gotta show some restraint lol.

It's ashame that most people in this era do not appreciate the work of Gary Oldman.

I know, right! I mean, when I looked up his Wikipedia, I expected him to have at least one Oscar but he just recently got nominated...He's been active for a long time and I expect most people to ignore him but how can he just be nominated? Among the best actors ever and the most underrated.

Ya I'm sure he'll get an Oscar for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy...if not then as you already know...the Academy is rigged!

Uhm I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the Oscars was 5 months ago and no he did not win.

What was the point of Jimmy getting a screening of the film the night before if he literally can't say ANYTHING ABOUT IT ON AIR?!?!

If Ithey would allow me to see TDKR tomorrow night I wouldn´t mind to be forbiden to say a word about it...

Must.... resist... temptation...... TO WATCH!!! AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Fine actor, fine scene with JGL... very atmospheric, absolutely fantastic. Best Gordon ever.
Yeah, JGL is just a cop... fine by me! He'll take Gordon's mantle, not Batman's! But would be great if he wears Begins bat-suit for some moment in the movie.
Yep, I lost the battle with myself and watched the scene.
Great scene.
So much guilt now.

that scene is just a small drop of COOL in a huge EPIC bucket of AWESOMENESS!... don't worry.

I´m not going to watch this clip. If I give in now I will end up watching all the others that are coming up in the next days and now it´s time to endure not to be weak.
Must.... resist.... watching....
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG. He's a riot. He should do more talk show appearances. I loved the Harry Potter joke.
I effing love Gary Oldman :)
Absolutely amazing. Very atmospheric and nostalgic.
"last confirmed sighting..." I'm assuming that Bats kept kicking some during these 8 years then had a major accident, having Bruce to walk stick now -or else there'd be a major plot hole, no? I mean I find it hard to accept that the Bat would have stopped right after the "I slipped and died" Two-Face night... Hope the movie will answer this...

No, he vanished from Gotham completely that night. This film draws part of its inspiration from the Dark Knight Returns graphic novel by Frank Miller, where Batman is completely absent from Gotham for 10 years (in the film it's 8 years). The film is more about the challenge that Bruce has to overcome from being out of crime fighting for so long (as well as age) and how he has to deal with a man who is fresh in muscle and can best him in a fight.
However, I'm also wondering how the cane came about. He shouldn't be using a cane from that fall he had in the end of the Dark Knight, because he would have healed during those 8 years.
Perhaps the cane is a more psychological thing, that Bruce feels he's haunted by what happened that night and needs some kind of support (I could be completely wrong).

Well, if he completely disappeared then the Batman had a very short career, for like three years? -my count is BB: 1 year (even less) then one year between BB and DK, DK: one year.
note: can't remember exactly if it was one year in between the first two movies...0 likes
Awww.. Gordon misses the batman so dearly.
i think Ras al ghul comes back to save batman from bane
