on Batman 3 Officially Titled ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, Won’t Include The Riddler

We have a title! Christopher Nolan confirmed that his final Batman movie is officially titled "The Dark Knight Rises" in an interview with Hero Complex. Nolan was more excited to confirm that Warner Bros. has agreed to let him film in IMAX, rather than the 3D format they were pushing for. The most surprising part of the interview however, is the fact that Nolan confirmed The Riddler will not be one of the villains in The Dark Knight Rises. Those are the major points from the interview for now, though Geoff Boucher says he'll post more later today [Update: Click here for part two, where Nolan discusses IMAX vs 3D].     So disappointed about no Riddler. It's just going to be Batman v. mafia and cops now. I wanted a villain, dammit.

    i really like the title. it's something no one had guessed. it's certainly better than shadow of the bat, for crissake. and, personally, i'm really happy the riddler won't be in it. i've never cared for the character and think he'd be far too similar to the joker.

    Why not 'Batman Rises'. That way it feels like part of the trilogy, rather than just a sequel to TDK. He should've just called it 'The Dark Knight 2'.

    The reason I'm in love with this title: 'Why do we fall, Bruce?'

    Depressed as hell at the lack of Riddler, but also sort of fascinated/excited about who else they could have in mind.

    the title's alright. but it feels too much like a sequel to the dark knight, and not the series itself.
    the IMAX is great. pumped for that. if they had done this in 3D, i woulda been pissed.
    NO RIDDLER?! nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. very disappointing. hes one of my favourite batman villains, and a good way to follow heath's joker. so now who?? im thinking hugo strange, with jeff bridges, ben kingsley, or john malcovitch.

    Since I'm banned at SHH and that was the only Batman forum I used for 3 years I will put my theory for TDKR here..great site BTW.

    From the hints and news I would say Hugo Strange will be the major threat to Bruce loosely based on Strange Apparitions (it's almost obvious if you read the arc). The Mob is run by different freaks now I.E Black Mask, Killer Croc, and Scarecrow so their after Batman and Gotham. Gotham and GPD is after Batman and the Mob. The hard part is where Catwoman fits in, I know its obvious but what are her motivations? Maybe she coaxed Batman out of hiding? Maybe The Bat runs into her in his rare appearances at night. Or maybe Selina is Hugo Strange's assistant and she finds out Bruce is Batman as well? Lots of angles on this one....The movie will be great with these characters, I can't wait.

      That's an interesting theory. We still don't know if Catwoman is definitely going to be in though.

        Thanks, I posted a picture of Catwoman in a seductive pose with the Bat signal shining through the window obscuring her taint...haha. I didn't think it was that offensive being most of us were guys in the Info Hunters forum and at one time or another fantasized about Selina Kyle. That moderator C.Lee seemed to have a hard on for me and I'm NEVER aloud back.

        This site embarrasses Jett. He proved today he has no sources with all that junk he took down right before the Nolan interview came out.

        I would be surprised if Catwoman wasn't in the film in some fashion, I just don't buy the Talia Al Ghul character in this world. Although R'as is set up already I would think it would take more time and energy to explain Talia than Selina. Selina is a easy character to fit into this world and fill the female void. I'm really hoping for a Adam Hughes inspired Catwoman if she does appear.

          Thank you. I did see Jett put up, and then quickly take down that Talia story. He also said in his forums that his "insiders" told him The Riddler would be making an appearance...

          I agree, bring on Catwoman!

    I think with Hugo Strange pressing to find out who Batman is so he can become Batman or something to that effect will be a huge threat in TDKR movie world. I have a feeling we are going to feel more tension and anxiety than we have in any Nolan film in the past. I had my doubts but my gut is telling me this is going to match and possibly surpass TDK. They aren't going to go through the immense trouble of shooting the entire thing in IMAX for a mediocre story. It's going to be a great story and a great example in film for many years after. And for those mad about the Riddler not making a appearance, would Nolan of told you Harvey Two Face was appearing 2 years before TDK? Not a chance.

    I guess The Dark Knight Rises might be a reference to Frank Millers 4th book in The Dark Knight Returns series. The 4th book is called The Dark Knight Falls, great title so the word play on that turning it into Rises makes sense for the finale in Nolan's series...that explanation puts me at ease a little with that unexpected title. Out of all the months of speculation I don't think I saw 'Rises' as a suggestion from one person on forum or site...funny how Nolan works.

    totally forgot about this but I was hoping for THE RETURN OF THE DARK KNIGHT (RTDK) that would of been the optimal title. You don't use up Dark Knight Returns and it still sounds good. The Dark Knight Rises is alright but it doesn't scream Nolan to me. The Return Of The Dark Knight is a great title for ending that trilogy....if you interview Chris can you suggest it? How could he not change it?

      LOL TheseScars, I love your enthusiasm and it's a good title yes, but it seems you forget a little problem: It's too long for a Nolan movie!! Why, even "The Dark Knight Rises" is too long for him, considering his movie history..Seriously now, I am "so-so" about the title, I find it too..uninspired. Love it it's not going to be 3D -it gives me serious headache especially if it's going to be for a loooong film like the ones Nolan does- and "no Riddler" makes me feel thrilled ONLY because it makes more room for my beloved Catwoman to appear. Two "too obvious" characters in one film would be too much for Nolan I presume.

        Haha yeah I love Chris Nolan's films and on top of this being his next project it's the next Batman and a finale to maybe the best superhero trilogy ever, so I'm pretty excited. As far as title I wouldn't be surprised if the title is changed during production. You never know. They could get into production and the film starts to round out and someone comes up with a better title. I bet they will market the film as "TDKR" though...I bet we will see that in bigger print than Dark Knight Rises.

        I'm all for Catwoman as well, I really hope they use the Adam Hughes version as inspiration. That version is so beautiful. I didn't think you could get a hotter Catwoman than Michelle Pfeiffer but Hughes version is unbelievable. She's got a face that is similar to Marion Cotillard and she has a huge chest, that would look so great on film. I would suggest Olivia Wilde but she doesn't have the bust, same with Cotillard (don't think she wants to do it anyways or I think Nolan would of cast her already), I really like Romola Garai (http://www.celebs101.com/ga.....

        Why doesn't Nolan make it easy on himself and just photoshop Pfeiffer into TDKR haha.

    Since I am banned from my only outlet to spew Batman ideas/speculation I've decided to make this chat area my Elba (Napoleon's place of exile). Anyways, I had a thought and it's probably not a very original thought but I haven't heard it discussed anywhere recently.

    How insanely awesome would it be to have a live action HBO Batman series every Sunday night? Not even copy Nolan's world but maybe use a algamation of all Batman mythos like Arkham Asylum does. I'm sure HBO doesn't need the ratings or viewers but that would definitely be a hit show. The show would skip over the origins for the most part and flash back on it occasionally. You basically follow the villain scheme from the comics and do some good comic arcs like The Long Halloween could be 1 season, Dark Victory and maybe When In Rome can be another season. The first season would be early runs.

    I just think that show can be insanely popular. The production would cost a little money but even if the studio isn't keen on putting the proper production values to it the show can also be done similar to Sin City. The show would be so great because your not constricted to the story you started say in the first part of a trilogy. You can skip around and have one offs because you also don't have to do teasers or cliffhangers that often because of the built in audience that wants to see varied stories. So say your first 3 episodes is a condensed Year One, next 2 are The Man Who Laughs, next 2 you do Two Face Year One, and the next 3 are The Dark Knight Returns. Tell me that wouldn't be the hottest show on television. And it wouldn't be anything like Smallville, not a thing.

    Thoughts, if anyone reads this? How do you think we can get this thing going? I am a writer so I think I might outline the first 2 seasons maybe 24 episodes for each season, 1 hour episodes, 2 hour premiere, 2 hour finale. If WB sees dollar signs and HBO sees massive dollar signs I think they would be into it. Nolan's franchise is coming to a close and I would say if production starts on it by 2012 you can premiere it a few months after TDKR gets out of theaters to capitalize on the momentum of that film. You also don't have to step on Nolan's toes and WB doesn't have to rush a Batman film because your giving the audience a 26 hour Batman film a year and that alone (think about the tie ins, merchandise, exposure) will bring in 3 times the money 1 film every 4 years would at a fraction of the cost. You don't even need huge stars to pull it off. That guy Armie Hammer was already cast as Bruce Wayne in that Justice League Crapfest and he sold me in Social Network so I would nab him up for Bruce/Batman. You get a name for Alfred, similar aged talented actor for the Joker...there's just so many possibilites I'm surprised live action Batman died out with Adam West because even with all the camp the show was still wildly popular and still makes money in syndication and DVDs. Okay I can seriously go on forever with this idea but what do you guys think? No brainer?

      This is obviously not a original thought but your site got a ton of traffic over the recent Batman news...do you think some studio stooge read this and pawned it off to his boss and thats where the whole, "New Batman TV Show based on Nolan's interpretation" is coming from?

      I mean it's a obvious idea but I post a few paragraphs on the subject and all of a sudden it is being made? Out of nowhere? If your reading this Warners I want in because you'll F it up.

        I was meaning to reply to your post with that recent news. I don't think Batman-News.com is getting that type of attention...yet. The TV show is just a rumor at this point, but if it turns out to be true you should try to be part of it! You had some good ideas.

    It should have The Riddler in it along with Catwoman. The Bane character was a big flop in Batman and Robin. I have an idea for Christopher Nolan. Why not have Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Killer Croc. He is a former wrestler and his acting had gotten better. Put him up in a green scaled outfit and watch him go toe-to tail( had to put that) ..LOL with Batman. A good script would make it a hell of a better than one with the Bane Man.
