2 on Looking back at Batman movie graphic novel adaptationsOne of the list relics of a bygone era is the comic book adaptation timed to the release of a film. Yes, there are still comics based on movies, but used to be you could go into a drug store or gas station and pick up a bonafide issue of, like, a James Bond movie,…
I don't know about you, but I'm having a blast looking at all of these old Batman toys from years past. This week we're headed back to 1992 for what might be the most divisive Batman movie, Batman Returns. Granted, there are better Batman movies, and there are worse Batman movies, but this one film…
Is there anything better than sitting down by the fireplace on a cold day, wrapping yourself up in a nice warm blanket, and reading a book? It's one of life's simple pleasures, to be sure, and the good folks at Insight Editions are always offering some stellar reading material. This year is no exception, as…
Much like Die Hard, Batman Returns is a movie that is firmly set at Christmastime, with events and settings and decor that evoke the holiday season. Yet both films seem to pose the same question every single year: "is this really a Christmas movie?" (They are) The debates are generally good-natured, and I can personally…
The Honest Trailer team has gone back to 1992 to bring us a look at Batman Returns. I had forgotten how gross the Penguin really was. Honest Trailers always brings up some valid points about the films it features. Namely, in this one, we have to remember we really like the first Tim Burton movie.…
Batman '89 and its three sequels are all coming home this year in glorious 4K UHD. Warner Bros. has announced that it is releasing Batman '89, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, and Batman & Robin this year in 4K UHD to celebrate Batman's 80th anniversary. The individual movies will be available on both disc and digitally…
Michelle Pfeiffer has finally joined the world of Instagram, and she wasted no time reminding us of our favorite role. Normally an actor joining social media isn't that newsworthy around these parts. Even when that person was part of a Batman movie it doesn't entirely scream the need to be pointed out. But when you…
Batman News was the first to announce that Mondo would press the Batman Returns soundtrack to vinyl for the first time in 25 years and now the album is here! This impressive reissue was released in two versions, a 2XLP on sale now, and an exclusive 3XLP available only at last month's Mondo-Con. We have photos so…
Batman Returns has a beautiful, operatic score by Danny Elfman, but while it's widely regarded as some of the best music ever orchestrated for a superhero film (or any film, for that matter) it hasn't been pressed to vinyl in over 25 years! Well, just like Batman and Penguin said in the movie, "Things change."…
Sideshow's latest addition to the much-celebrated Premium Format collection is Catwoman, but not just any Catwoman. Unlike our previous Premium Format review, a remarkable amalgamation of Batman's most popular comic book portrayals, this figure is quite specific. Here we have none other than Michelle Pfeiffer from "Batman Returns" and in this review we'll talk about…
The second and final installment of Tim Burton's Batman franchise, Batman Returns employs a markedly different approach than the film that preceded it. At times, it adopts a lighter tone, with Bat-hangers and silly puns. But at others, Returns goes darker and creepier than perhaps any Batman film before or since. No character bears more responsibility…
After all the comics I've read throughout the years, I think I can say I have a firm grasp of how Batman should be portrayed. And yet, despite knowing for a fact that a lot of stuff was done just plain wrong in the Tim Burton films, when I see Michael Keaton in the cape…
