Following an acting hiatus, Armie Hammer has announced his latest project along with director Uwe Boll: The Dark Knight. In case anyone might be confused, no, this project legally has nothing to do with the DC Comics/Warner Bros. movie The Dark Knight from 2008. That movie was about the masked vigilante Batman as he fought crime while maintaining a fraught relationship with Gotham's Police. This movie, on the other hand, was described as such in an interview with Variety:-

In “The Dark Knight,” based on an original script by Boll, Hammer plays Sanders, who takes justice into his own hands as he sets out to hunt down criminals. While his crusade transforms him into a social media sensation and a hero in the eyes of the public, the local police chief sees him as a menace to society and aims to take him down.

The movie's executive producer made sure to reassure fans that there is no connection between the two films. Speaking in the same interview, he said “our movie is very different from Chris Nolan’s movie, so there is no danger of confusion.”

It is perhaps ironic then, given the complete lack of similarity between the movies, that this is not the first time Hammer was cast as a "Dark Knight". In 2007, Warner Bros. began production on the live-action movie Justice League: Mortal, with Hammer as Batman. The movie was faced with numerous production delays due to the 2007-08 Writer's Guild strike, before eventually being shelved as WB instead focused on solo hero projects.

Uwe Boll and Armie Hammer's The Dark Knight currently has no scheduled release date.
