Matt Reeves has shared some of the reasons behind the lack of appearance of Batman in The Penguin.

Reeves recently spoke with Digital Spy in support of The Penguin and discussed the state of Gotham City following the vents of The Batman. "This was a time of great turmoil in the city, it's literally the week after what happened," said Reeves. "Much of the city is in desperation, so police can't get everywhere, there's crime everywhere, it's a very, very dangerous time."

He went on to add, "[Batman’s] out there trying to grapple with the aftermath of everything that happened, which to some degree he blames himself for."

While we may not have seen Batman in the series, it ended with his presence being felt. It has already been confirmed that Colin Farrell will appear as Oz Cobb in The Batman Part II, and seeing as how he now rules Gotham's underworld, a collision between the two seems inevitable. And considering the mention of Selina Kyle in relation to Sofia, we received multiple hints as to where the story of the film may be headed.

The entire season of The Penguin is available now on Max. The Batman Part II is set to hit theaters on Oct. 2, 2026.
