DC Studios has added Kelly Macdonald to the cast of the upcoming Lanterns.

The cast of Lanterns has expanded once again with Kelly Macdonald (No Country for Old Men, Boardwalk Empire) being the latest addition. According to The Hollywood Reporter she will be playing a new character, Sheriff Kerry. She is described as a no-nonsense person who is devoted to her family and community, and will have to rely on her hardened resolve when the community's secrets come to light.

Macdonald is the third person to join the series, following Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart.

Emmy-nominee Chris Mundy (HBO’s True Detective: Night Country, Ozark) will be the showrunner and an executive producer on the project. Emmy-winner Damon Lindelof (HBO’s Watchmen and The Leftovers) and Eisner Award winner Tom King (Mister Miracle, Supergirl) will co-write the new series with Mundy. Lindelof and King will also serve as executive producers.

The official logline of the series says, “The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”

Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content, said in a statement at the time of the series' announcement, “We are elated to be reuniting with both Chris Mundy and Damon Lindelof as they partner with Tom for this fresh take on DC’s Green Lantern. As part of James [Gunn] and Peter’s [Safran] vision for the DC Universe, this first new live-action series will mark an exciting new era.”

No release date has been announced as of yet for Lanterns.
