John Turturro has opened up about why he didn't reprise the role of Carmine Falcone in The Penguin.
Up until now we had heard that he had been replaced by Mark Strong due to scheduling conflicts with another project. In a new interview with Variety, Turturro shared that wasn't the entirety of the reason. "I did what I wanted to with the role," said the actor. "In the show, there was a lot of violence towards women, and that’s not my thing."
When asked about the brutality attributed to his character in The Batman, Turturro replied, It happens off-screen. It’s scarier that way."
He does provide that was partially due to an embarrassment of riches as well saying, "You can’t do everything you want to."
As his character is off the table for future stories in Batman Epic Crime Saga other than in flashbacks, it seems we have seen the last of him in the role. And seeing what the TV series seems to be building towards, the underworld of Gotham will more than likely be a very different place by the time of The Batman Part II.
The Penguin airs new episodes on Sundays at 9pm Eastern on HBO and Max.
