First look at Tom Taylor's Detective Comics

This past week, Ram V finished his two-year long "Gotham: Nocturne" saga, and with it his run on Detective Comics. Stepping into the role is writer Tom Taylor (Nightwing, Injustice) along with artist Mikel Janín (Batman, Grayson). As part of DC's "All In" initiative, the upcoming run promises to explore new villains as well as uncover dark secrets about Batman's origins. It all begins with the storyline "Mercy of the Father" in Detective Comics #1090, on sale October 23.

Long ago, the murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne changed Gotham forever. But there is something you never knew about the Dark Knight’s tragic origin, which has been lying in wait to strike at Batman ever since that fateful night in Crime Alley. And now, all these years later, this ghost of Gotham’s past begins to reveal itself.
Superstars Tom Taylor and Mikel Janín team up to bring you a Batman tale that will rattle the very foundations of the Dark Knight. Things may never be the same again.

Detective Comics #1090 features a main cover by series artist Janín, with variant covers by Dan Panosian, Bruno Redondo, Tony Harris, and Ashley Wood, plus an “All In” foil variant cover by Daniel Sampere.

is it me or are most of modern Batman stories involve plots where the villain knows or figures out who Batman is?!
The trend becomes way less special where it happens with every other villain.

I am EXTREMLY concerned about what Taylor is going to do to Batman- especially when they give this type of access to retcon or mess with backstories for characters like the Waynes. Even with the idea of Thoman showing mercy per the preview I thoroughly expect Taylor to eventually cater to the whole lazy "person was rich therefore was secretly bad" thing and start heaping mud.

Great art.

I'm going to guess that Thomas saved a bad person, who went on to ruin this person's life, and now Bruce is being held accountable for The ~~Sins~~ Mercy of the Father.

This doesn't look horrible, but it also doesn't look very original. It looks like Tom Taylor Plot A.

One of the things I appreciated about Ram V's run is that his villains the Orghams were primarily there to bring together characters who had long had tortured relationships with Bruce but knew his value. I don't care if every major villain is on a first name basis with Bruce but new characters haven't earned that.

A villain who has worked out Batman's identity should also reasonably be expected to know that Batman vehemently opposes killing.

I would like to be wrong about Taylor but I foresee this run being a series of sentimental tableau strung along a janky plot, each arc concluding with a restatement of token values like "Do not kill."

Ah, are they finally going to address why Martha wore a string of fake pearls? Since a real pearl necklace would have knots between every pearl so they wouldn't all scatter…

I hope Taylor can manage to give us a good run on Tec. Because his run on Titans was meh... and on Nightwing it was too long for only a conflict with Heartless.
The problems that he has against him are that he comes after Ram V, and that he is in Detective.
Maybe it would have been better for him to take B&R, and PKJ in Tec (due to the tone of their stories).
